Boris has been fined - Tory voters, should he go?

NewYorker80 · 12/04/2022 13:43

Both Johnson and Sunak have received fines for the lockdown parties. No further details as yet.

Do any Conservative voters here think Boris should resign?

@itsgettingweird

I can’t believe think that a country run by fear of worse politicians is anything to aspire to. We should be calling for better and showing that it means something.

Agree.

The fact so many are just shrugging and saying he should resign but won't and are accepting it shows a much bigger problem imo.

Totally - aren't we a pathetic bunch.
Notonthestairs · 12/04/2022 17:09

@CapMarvel - JJ really isn't making it up.

"Also suggests that, as expected, Met is issuing fines event by event (parties on eve of Prince Phillip's funeral & Cabinet Room bday party now done).

PM alleged to have attended at least six gatherings so there could be more FPNs for him to come."

Not a Tory voter (at least in the last few GEs) but not sure why anyone feels a fine is some definitive reason for him to go?

It was always obvious he'd broken the rules, which he probably doesn't feel apply to him anyway, and if he's not gone as a result of all his other shameful behaviour I wouldn't think a mere fine would make any difference

Should he? Of course. Someone with no integrity should never be PM.

Will he? I doubt it. He's lied throughout his life and career, which is no secret, so I doubt he or the people who voted for him will suddenly start caring.

SpinningMeSoftly · 12/04/2022 17:10

All anyone ever had to do, including Johnson, Sunak and Starmer, was tell the truth.

Because yes, I can actually handle the truth.

TooBigForMyBoots · 12/04/2022 17:10

All guidance was followed.
The guidelines were followed at all times.

PM Johnson is a liar.
He was a liar when he was an MP.

He was a liar when he was a journalist.

He is still a liar.

And still the faithful sheep defend him with Baaaaa Baaaa, baaaa t Labour.

SpinningMeSoftly · 12/04/2022 17:11

Johnson as Prime Minister lied to Parliament.

User135644 · 12/04/2022 17:11

The timing is convenient for him to ride it out given Ukraine etc.

If it was in the middle of the shitstorm earlier in the year it would have been difficult.

So he was at the cake party for an hour, not just the 10 minute ambush he claimed.

TooBigForMyBoots · 12/04/2022 17:13

He is the first serving British PM to be penalised for breaking the law.

MoggyCentral · 12/04/2022 17:13

@CapMarvel. You're very rude to accuse people of lying just because you don't know the truth! It's on Sky and other, definitely not Tory supporting, posters have confirmed it. You're fond of accountability, so you really should apologise.

langdale2016 · 12/04/2022 17:14

They should both resign.

romatheroamer · 12/04/2022 17:16

You only have to read some of the responses on here to conclude that they're probably safe. Wonder what'd be needed to make them change their mind and not divert onto don't like the others/Corbyn etc.(irrelevant) As a pp said paedophilia or something?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 12/04/2022 17:17

Someone with no integrity should never be PM

For that matter they probably shouldn't be a politician of any type, but the ones who actually have any real integrity seem to be as rare as rocking horse droppings

No doubt some had it when they started off with good intentions, but once they enter the political machine it becomes an inconvenient extra to be dropped at will

DuncinToffee · 12/04/2022 17:17

Boris Johnson is the first sitting Prime Minister to have broken the law.

But they are the same Confused

MoggyCentral · 12/04/2022 17:17

No. Don't just quote Daily Mirror Journalists as gospel. Yhis one us not that bright. The police said he attended between 14.00 and 15.00. That means he was there some time between those two times not for the whole of the hour!

The straw splitting here is incredible. He was there long enough to be fined.

I remember when Carrington resigned because his dept got it wrong over the Argentinians and the Falkland Islands.

Only 40 years ago but how times have changed.

55% of those polled today say BJ should go BUT 75% think he lied... so looks like a significant minority of the public have no integrity either.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 12/04/2022 17:22

Quite right, he is - but I'm less bothered about the fine than the fact he broke the law in the first place
And as said, if that wasn't enough to prod him into going, I can't see a fine will make any difference

Basically, he'll get to stay unless there's a chance a lot of MPs will lose their seats because of him, and with the majority they've got it really will take a lot of them to lose

NewYorker80 · 12/04/2022 17:23

I'm definitely not a Tory voter, so would probably disagree with all of his policies, but I'd prefer to see Tobias Ellwood as PM (rather than Truss et al) as he is a man of integrity I believe.

itsgettingweird · 12/04/2022 17:23

@JaniieJones

'Thanks Boris for lifting everything this year so it's spread like wildfire'

You think there should still be restrictions?!

I wondered you'd you'd pop up to highlight one sentence to totally unrelated to the thread and to twist it round to someone saying something they aren't 🤣🤣

Perhaps now you'd like to comment on what you think the PM should do now he's been caught lying to government and breaking the ministerial code if conduct. You said you'd comment when the truth was published.

maddy68 · 12/04/2022 17:26

Yes he should

Puzzledandpissedoff · 12/04/2022 17:26

Sorry, NewYorker, but it took about 10 seconds to find this in the Guardian:

"Politicians have clashed with the expenses watchdog after being publicly accused of failing to repay outstanding expenses debts"

"The Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (Ipsa) named Conservative ministers Tobias Ellwood, Edward Timpson and Caroline Dinenage among 26 current and former MPs who failed to settle sums of up to £500 last year, forcing them to be written off"

MoggyCentral · 12/04/2022 17:27

To be fair, I like Corbyn too so I don't know why people are dissing him....if they are. As for paedophiles, there are just as many Labour politicians that have been accused and found guilty. Tossing around paedophilia and necrophilia comments as a way to win an argument is pretty desperate and grim TBH.
