Boris has been fined - Tory voters, should he go?

NewYorker80 · 12/04/2022 13:43

Both Johnson and Sunak have received fines for the lockdown parties. No further details as yet.

Do any Conservative voters here think Boris should resign?

@midsomermurderess

We'll be hit with a wall-to-wall Rees-Mogg anti-charm offensive for days now.
Thanks for putting that image into my mind when I'm looking forward to Easter eggs and hot cross buns.
Roussette · 12/04/2022 16:11

@Cornettoninja

Great post, yes I agree. The longer this goes on with him as PM, the more we are going to sink into lowest standards imaginable.

It's about the principle.

I didn't realise you were so unwell, @ancientgran. You are such a presence round these parts. Wishing you well Flowers

Do we know how many fines he's received? I'm assuming he's be fined multiple times, 1 for each illegal gathering he attended.

ancientgran · 12/04/2022 16:13

@Roussette

Sorry to hear that *@ancientgran* Me and DH have just got it too, I was worried about him (health problems previously) but think we're over the worst. Hope that happens for you too
Thank you. It does make me laugh though that I was so worried about DH getting it and here we are with him living with me, having personal care from me and he hasn't got it. Madness.

He won't get it from me now as doctor has assured me I'm not infectious now, just the after affects.

SueSaid · 12/04/2022 16:13

'Thanks Boris for lifting everything this year so it's spread like wildfire'

You think there should still be restrictions?!

Cornettoninja · 12/04/2022 16:13

I give up, let's get Labour in to stop the crying.
Nothing will change, nothing at all

@Hrpuffnstuff1 oh and on the this point, no need to be so dramatic, just a competent Tory would be a good start.

derxa · 12/04/2022 16:13

Even the one with people sitting on laps, breaking a swing , going down a slide an singing karaoke derxa?? What about the ABBA one?? The wines and beer in a suitcase??? Come on now. Those were the ones No 10 staff had on the eve of PP's funeral. Sunak was nowhere near those. I'd bet my life on it. I'm not a Sunak fan. I find him a bit slimy but he seems very straight laced at the same time.

Roussette · 12/04/2022 16:13

😂🤣😂

Michael Fabricant just come out in huge defence of him.
It is really funny.

Alexandra2001 · 12/04/2022 16:13

@derxa

Here is the footage of Sunak in parliament saying he did not attend any parties. I honestly don't believe many of these gatherings were 'parties ' as most of us understand the word. I find Partygate to be a pathetic witch hunt. Having said all that, I'd be happier with a new Cabinet consisting of people with integrity. Let's have a clear out.
If you know what BJ did or didn't attend, then you must have been there? and have been fined too.

Why is finding out who broke the law a "Witch Hunt" ?

Very odd POV if you also want people in Govt with Integrity.

We aren't at war with Russia, so there is no reason for him to stay on, Truss and Wallace can deal with this foreign affairs crisis, BJ isn't instrumental at all.

Yes, and get well soon from me, ancientgran, too. I always like reading your posts.
Franklin12 · 12/04/2022 16:14

It sort of does Sooty. In my view it means that Boris and Co can get away with more and more bad behaviour knowing there isnt any real opposition. Even if a GE was called tomorrow Tories would still win.

ancientgran · 12/04/2022 16:14

@JaniieJones

'Thanks Boris for lifting everything this year so it's spread like wildfire'

You think there should still be restrictions?!

If you were going through what I'm going through you might think that little things like continuing with mask wearing would have been worth the effort.

Obviously if you aren't able to understand what some of us are going through that might be hard to grasp.

Tilltheend99 · 12/04/2022 16:14

@Tontostitis

Nope he's still the best of a very bad bunch
He took everybody’s liberty away. Something all the ‘true’ Tories I know we infuriated by because it is completely un-conservative. But he didn’t lock himself away and he didn’t manage to do a great job of saving lives.

He had basically been useless on all fronts.

AND he put up taxes which is incredibly un-conservative and anyone who believes in that philosophy should not vote for him based on that alone.

I’m not a Tory voter personally as I don’t believe in child poverty and pushing disabled people to suicide but Tory Brexit voters are a bit like a cult in denial. I bet half the people coming on her to defend him are sat with the heating off right now. They even broke the triple lock!!!

DGRossetti · 12/04/2022 16:14

Hardly surprising that a paedophile was attracted to the Tory party when he saw the low ethical bar they hold their leaders to.

It certain makes me wonder why some people are so passionate in their defence of Johnson.

CakeAmbushAlert · 12/04/2022 16:15

He should go...to prison. Lying, cheating scumbucket.

Franklin12 · 12/04/2022 16:15

Oh blimey - who thinks there should still be restrictions???

BringBackCoffeeCreams · 12/04/2022 16:15

Also will the organisers of these events get the massive fines like those dished out to the organisers of the snowball fight? I know Carrie has been fined, but as I understand it, she threw the party, so she should have at least one £10k fine.

SueSaid · 12/04/2022 16:15

Jesus. BJ's fpn like Sunak's is down to the cabinet office birthday cake.

No actual party then.

So no, he shouldn't resign.

ancientgran · 12/04/2022 16:16

@Abra1d1 thank you. That is very kind. I think being on here has helped me get through the last six weeks although I know I was a bit out of it at times.

I woke up one morning convinced I was being held prisoner by a character in an American comedy. I was convinced it was happening and I was terrified but it makes me laugh now.

Pitafalafel · 12/04/2022 16:16

Of course he should resign. But the Conservatives were once the Party for old fashioned morality and tradition and the wealthy. Now they’re just the Party for the wealthy.

Roussette · 12/04/2022 16:16

Hmmm.... MPs coming out and citing Ukraine.

I find it cynical exploitation of what that country is going through. Abhorrent.
How come France are managing to go through elections then?
And surely there is cross party support for Ukraine.
Johnson going will not make an iota of difference

MoggyCentral · 12/04/2022 16:17

But, @ancientgran, they never stopped wearing masks in Scotland and their numbers were nearly twice ours. So I think we can say masks were pretty useless.

SueSaid · 12/04/2022 16:17

'Obviously if you aren't able to understand what some of us are going through that might be hard to grasp.'

I've had the same experiences as everyone else, we have CEV relatives but no I certainly do not think masks or restrictions are still needed.

Alexandra2001 · 12/04/2022 16:17

@JaniieJones I do recall you said on several occasions, recently, that you would change you view on BJ if he was ever found guilty.

Well, have you?
