Place for information, discussion, points of view, useful links and above all, a hope that this sovereign land can regain its freedom.

@TargusEasting gosh that's a brilliant response :-)

Saltedeggplant · 06/04/2022 20:27

Why aren't China equally as disgusted by this? Surely there comes a point where politics are forgotten and the human cost takes precedent? I know I'll need my hard hat for saying this...
Why would they be, they give zero fucks about human rights of even their own people and they're currently commiting a genocide of their own and all sorts of horrendous human rights violations.

PaperTyger · 06/04/2022 20:28

I personally, (from my arm chair) believe this is truly the time to make hay...get stuff, people whatever in! Into Ukraine now...in whatever guise....flood it.

Flood it with the best of everything... discreetly.

PaperTyger · 06/04/2022 20:29

Magic.

Humanity from China?

MagicFox · 06/04/2022 20:29

We need a younger generation who don't want to live like this, in thrall to these old men. Who will change things

MagicFox · 06/04/2022 20:29

@PaperTyger

Magic.

Humanity from China?

I did say I'd had wine...
PaperTyger · 06/04/2022 20:32

@Igotjelly

Personally I running this is definitely the time to get in... esp around the Nuclear plants... someone's Said much earlier this is a massive missed opportunity.
Get them in now.
It's the security of Europe at risk.
I'd flood it with armed to the nines " peace keepers" allow the Ukraine army too concentrate on the new fronts...

TomatoCultivator · 06/04/2022 20:32

Why will you need a hard hat for saying that? It seems a reasonable question.

Paper

Russia isn't in the EU, the EU ties member states into things like ECJ which means countries talk instead of fight....

...and further sanctions, no matter how harsh, are going to stop Putin, he has the ability to manufacture endless supplies of "dumb" ammunition. and a huge number of troops to deliver them from a far, so only military action by the West will stop him.

MagicFox · 06/04/2022 20:34

@TomatoCultivator because if china's human rights record :-(

PaperTyger · 06/04/2022 20:34

Magic I've read lots around China, one of if not the most powerful book I've ever read, life And death in Shanghai...

Even then it's hard too understand the depth of scaring on a human living under this.

MagicFox · 06/04/2022 20:35

I wonder where we'd be now if Russia had joined nato as Putin originally requested

PaperTyger · 06/04/2022 20:35

Alexandra Grin I know.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 06/04/2022 20:36

@MagicFox

I know I'm really naive but I can't get my head around this, the horror of it. And I can't get my head around the way the soldiers think and act. Especially if they're conscripts - young boys, what was their life like before? I feel like this can't be real life because it's the stuff of nightmare films, I'm really struggling to match life before with life now, to unsee. How can this be. I know Russian people, I can't square those that I know with this strange collective that we're talking about. I thought russia was a different place to what it seems to be like.

Apologies, count on me for wine-fuelled emotional posts

I can't wrap my head around this.

I speak Russian because I have some distant family roots there and also because I love Russian literature. I could recite Pushkin for hours.

This? Fuck this.

PaperTyger · 06/04/2022 20:36

Magic I don't know.
He's in the UN....

Alexandra2001 · 06/04/2022 20:36

I'd flood it with armed to the nines " peace keepers" allow the Ukraine army too concentrate on the new fronts

Only the Americans have the means to do that, which is basically an army large enough and supported with air and naval cover to take back Ukraine back from Russia

MagicFox · 06/04/2022 20:36

And yet they will soon be THE global power. I find this bloody terrifying. I will say that before this war I knew nothing, I was ignorant. I have learnt a lot, I have woken up. And I don't feel good about it!

PaperTyger · 06/04/2022 20:38

Did anyone see the pictures of soldiers in bucha on twitter, don't look ethnic russian and look about 18

What is derailing is not this, it's the constant jibes from the Corbyn contingent.

Mostly jokes from those who don’t support Corbyn and never did, but have been exposed to far too much “But Jeremy Corbyn” as a response to every criticism of the present government.

PaperTyger · 06/04/2022 20:41

Magic with China as crazy as it Seems I think there is small hope...

Because religious belief is not involved.
And information flows.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 06/04/2022 20:41

A bad jokes doesn't get any better when endlessly repeated. Still a derailment.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 06/04/2022 20:41

joke

PaperTyger · 06/04/2022 20:41

I don't have any hope at all for countries wedded to religion
