Won't the Russian people be even more pissed off with Putin if he imposes martial law? They're already suffering interest rate hikes and likely other financial impacts on a personal level, not to mention losing relatives to the war special operation.
Though, I suppose it doesn't matter as they don't get a say.
But if the impacts to the population are bad enough, that would include their police/enforcement wouldn't it? How bad does it have to get for them to turn around and refuse to play the game any more?

Sorry I have a basic question - because all these threads are in Chat they will be automatically deleted after 30 days and they will never show up again because by posting in Chat none of us has consented implicitly to them being there later for reference? Isn’t that a shame in a way?

Placemarking. These threads are so useful 👌

I'm so nervous. Will this end without nukes :(

yoolia · 02/03/2022 21:14

Looks like the MIG that came down was due to poor weather conditions. No need to panic anyone.

I dunno, there are a couple of usually sensible commentators on twitter who are questioning it

Puppetry between such nations is....at best... enthusiastically imagined.

A Putin puppet government yes
... but in democratic nation's it's not really a huge problem.

jgw1 · 02/03/2022 21:14

@AuldAlliance

Thanks for the new thread. I'm curious about the posts saying Zelenskyy is a US puppet. He was elected in 2019, during the Trump presidency - was that the successful outcome of a strategy devised under Obama or Trump? The transcript of the phone call between Trump and Zelenskyy reveals the latter to be a bit fawning, saying he'd stayed at Trump's hotel. But then when Trump tried to get Zelenskyy to incriminate Biden, he stood his ground, leading to a huge freeze on aid to Ukraine and a refusal to invite him to the White House, which would have been a show of US support for Ukraine against Putin. Who was pulling his strings at that point?

I'd like more details on this puppetry.

Its just whataboutery, it doesn't have any basis in fact.

I agree. This is a real time record of what happened and how people reacted to it.
dreamingbohemian · 02/03/2022 21:16

Surely if Russia wants a ceasefire it just ceases firing? I mean - I don’t think Ukraine is bombing Russia, are they?

I just wanted to carry this over from the last thread because -- yes! exactly!

Russia doesn't need to negotiate a ceasefire. It can just stop what it's doing. It won't but it could.

workisnotawolf · 02/03/2022 21:16

Martial law in Russia - could it also be an attempt to get back to Soviet style communism too, away from own currency etc - I reckon they will be cooking something up with the Rouble.

Tigersonvaseline · 02/03/2022 21:16

Can someone links to the plane sweets please.

I'm struggling to navigate my way around twitter still

May come in handy. Once Putin's advances bring him over this way at least he won't be able to look at the things we said about him and hold them against us... Just hold nukes above our heads instead.

The search helicopter that went to look for the MiG also came down judging by reports on Twitter.. though apparently the weather was very bad conditions for flying.
Tigersonvaseline · 02/03/2022 21:18

Re martial law, why would they need to do that for the rouble?

I'm hoping it's nothing nuclear related?

If you use the search bar (on Twitter) to search 'Romanian MiG' a list of tweets will come up. Smile
Tigersonvaseline · 02/03/2022 21:19

You joke rags but some poster's have said they think Putin is aware of us Grin

@Tigersonvaseline

Thanks op.

Re peregrine post (sp)

Being reminded of oligarchs root's and money being firmly planted under a labour government, isn't what I call what about ery.

Surely we need to be aware this isn't solely a Tory issue?
All political people/ parties are vulnerable to bribes, donations, lobbying And we need new laws to uphold the upmost transparency across all parties?

You've a point (not) Labour did introduce the golden visa scheme in 2008, then Global Financial Crash, 2010 Tories in power, over the next 5 years (until scheme stopped) Many 100s of very wealthy individuals came here, given Uk citz, no questions asked.

I think its safe to say we are not doing enough to crack down on them at this moment in time.

We could tax them all an extra 20% and cushion every household from this and future energy price rises (which will be huge because of this war) .... but won't do that either.

The sanctions will hit households here very hard and that needs addressing too.

timetochangeusername · 02/03/2022 21:20

Thanks OP. I've got a whole thread to catch up on.

To counter civil unrest.

I wish everyone on this thread (and twitter) would stop leapfrogging onto nuclear war. It isn't good for anyone's anxiety levels, and although it is maybe more likely than it was last week, it still isn't a likely scenario.

I think the 24 hour news cycle has a lot to answer for as we are basically getting an update every time Putin blows his nose.

It's a whataboutism when the poster was implying that it needs to be ignored because Labour does it too. Surely if u have a current government having Russian funding it compromises their reaction now, they have imposed the sanctions for 28 days time and not straight away! Borris Johnson is telling the public how important sanctions are and how behind Ukraine he is while knowing he has and a lot of his party has taken money from potential people he is sanctioning
Natsku · 02/03/2022 21:21

Thanks for the new thread.

Russia has captured the area containing Ukraine's largest nuclear plant. Not good, but trying to see the positive, if they've captured it now maybe there won't be fighting in that area now, risking accidents to the plant.

itsgettingweird · 02/03/2022 21:21

Thanks for new thread.

I'm just able to to keep up with them but read bits and bobs throughout the day.

These threads are so informative so even though every time I come there's another 500 posts I'm managing to read some useful information alongside catching sky news.
