There is also crypto for now. Many are predicting a move away from it but for now..

Thewiseoneincognito · 02/03/2022 22:05

When you read that thread @RedToothBrush it actually makes you pause and wonder how those innocent people in Russia who haven’t asked for this war or support it are going to manage, life was hard enough for many of them before this started. I can not imagine how they must be feeling whilst this atrocity is being committed by their leaders. The sanctions will hit them the hardest.

@yoolia

I've kind of had it with all the "here's what might happen" comment pieces tbh. All they do is make people anxious and they're not helpful. These people do not have crystal balls.
Yes I’m reminded of all the worst-case Covid predictions in March 2020.

More detail on the mig and rescue helicopter:

Romanian MiG-21MF Lancer is missing. Disappeared off the coast of the Black Sea, in the Cogealac area. The SAR helo sent to find it disappeared too. Locals reporting a loud 'bang'.... Mind there's bad weather there, but also a few Russian warships....
Ongoing reporting here: www.g4media.ro/breaking-un-avion-mig-21-lancer-a...
....and 2 VKS Su-24 and 2 Su-27s have violated Sweden’s airspace over the Baltic Sea today (all interecepted by SwLM JAS-39s).

This video really got to me today:

twitter.com/mjluxmoore/status/1499012343581364224

A young captured Russian soldier is fed by Ukrainians. He seems to be ravenous. They even video call his mother for him, so he can tell her he's alive. At the end he starts crying and the Ukrainians try to comfort him.

(Ok maybe this is all staged but if so it's incredibly well done!)

Fuck Putin and everyone who started this war.

Damnloginpopup · 02/03/2022 22:12

I can't get an English translation for this but here it is anyway in case somebody can:

I think if it was Russia it would've been announced by now surely

@Blinkingbatshit

“Come, collect your sons” - Ukrainian MOD have said any mothers of POWs can come collect their kids. The journey may open their eyes…. On an entirely separate note, Abramovich says he’ll give profits of Chelsea sale to Ukrainians - so who’s going to police him handing over the 2billion?! Nah, take the lot off him now….this is what he’s seeking to avoid before it’s forced…his pr is shit if he thinks it’ll wash.
Yes apparently if Russian mothers go to Ukraine their POW sons will be released to them directly.

I really want an army of Russian mothers to go and stop this war!

Don't think its the only similar advert.

Here's another one for Brits:
www.ebay.co.uk/itm/265575569490?hash=item3dd5899852:g:0lYAAOSwF21iH7B~

It says in the description below that its to be picked up from Ukraine, however the listing itself is located in West Bromwich with £9.02 postage

(Something tells me this may not have been placed by Ukrainians.)

cakeorwine · 02/03/2022 22:17

Wouldn't want to be a Russian pilot - especially a helicopter one

From the Guardian live feed

The US has delivered hundreds of stinger missiles to Ukraine as part of the $350m aid package the Biden administration announced last week, according to NBC News.

Congressional officials told NBC that the US had delivered more than 200 of the missiles on Monday:

The package also includes Javelin anti-tank missiles and ammunition, both of which the Ukrainian government has said they need to fight off advancing Russian military.

Stinger missiles can be used to shoot down aircraft. During the Cold War, the U.S. government secretly supplied Afghan resistance fighters with stingers to shoot down Russian helicopters over Afghanistan.

Germany announced last weekend that they are sending 500 stinger missiles to Ukraine, as well.

I wonder how many of these weapons are being stored across the country for use later on?

I remember reading about the Afghanistan occupation by the Russians and how difficult it was for them

Hopefully that's just propaganda to try to scare Russian soldiers, because otherwise that would be a war crime.

"Russia’s shocking invasion of Ukraine will inevitably lead to more fear, misery and death. It is a frightening escalation of the ongoing crisis.

Russia must withdraw its troops and return to diplomacy. If it does not, dark days are ahead for Ukraine, Russia and all of Europe"

You joke rags but some poster's have said they think Putin is aware of us grin

Maybe he’s been reading the Daily Mash’s Mumsnet Guide To Armageddon

The Mumsnet Guide to Armageddon
JUGGLING a career, kids and useless partner is tricky for mums before thermonuclear oblivion’s added to the mix! Mumsnet regular Joanna Kramer gives her tips:

Build a bunker

Make it as airtight as possible with a generator and wifi to stay connected to Mumsnet, and a chest freezer for provisions. Pretend to be gutted by the kids wanting potato faces every night when really you’re revelling in being a martyr to their basic taste. You used to love Thai!

Share trivial, confusing problems

Despite looming world war continue sharing your baffling and bitter grudge against a neighbour you lent a jam jar to which they never returned, even though it’s just a jam jar and it’s more the principle. Should you say something or are you being petty? Yes the four-minute warning’s gone off, but this is important.

Keep posting your weird sex issues

As the warheads strike keep hold of your priorities and post deeply personal sex questions like ‘Walked in on husband, shall we say ‘choking the chicken’, over the kids’ Peppa Pig DVD while muttering ‘take it piggy’. Is this normal?’

Consult Mumsnet over everything

A nuclear war needn’t stop you consulting wholly unqualified random people about every sodding issue, such as ‘Can I refreeze defrosted raw chicken?’, ‘Should I take the kids out to see the mushroom clouds?’, and ‘Does Calpol work for radiation sickness?

Remain completely self-obsessed

As the situation deteriorates, Mumsnet will be full of posts like: ‘Bodies everywhere. Food supplies exhausted. Plague has broken out. Squads of men in hazmat suits killing the infected with flamethrowers. Will the examiner take this into account re daughter’s GCSE grades?

Don’t forget to moan about the transgenders

It may not seem a priority with mobs killing and looting at will, but keep posting irate comments about transgender issues you’ve uncritically absorbed from the Mail, such as ‘I’m a woman, not a ‘person with a uterus’ thank you very much!’

Make your last words a humblebrag

‘Giant mutated rat ate our labrador, Rufus. Should have saved a few quid and got a rescue dog instead of a pedigree! Daughter in floods, but son got it with a homemade spear. Glad I paid the extra and got Japanese kitchen knives from Lakeland

strawberriesarenot · 02/03/2022 22:21

If Putin is really wandering around mumsnet, surely he would be AIBU asking about if it was ok to take his family to a very posh bunker in Siberia.
And we'd all be saying, go for it, nothing wrong with sharing bedrooms, lots of blankets and hot chocolate, but maybe you'd get more traffic if you posted in Mental Health.

Part of Russia's failure on Afghanistan was the well documented "Russian mother's resistance" it did have quite the impact.

Ijsbear · 02/03/2022 22:23

@Ghastlyghoul that was really funny. Black as hell, but funny.

Gingerwarthog · 02/03/2022 22:26

Thank you so much! Made me laugh out loud amidst all the grim reality.
