Just copied this from another MN thread discussing Ukraine, from someone who says they are a Russian political analyst:

Despite the very vague threatening statements made by the Russians over the last few days, the US government was reporting a few hours ago that no change to Russian nuclear force posture had been detected. There's no evidence - so far - that this was more than a desperate attempt to retrieve some credibility in the face of Russia's weakness in Ukraine and inability to stop Western states coordinating diplomatic and economic responses.

Even if Putin is mentally unstable - and there's no consensus on that - the people around him, including the senior military leadership, aren't.

Alondra · 01/03/2022 14:40

And anyway another poster attacked you not me. Why didn’t you respond to them?

Because she appears to be too far invested in this conflict emotionally and I prefer not to answer to a person who call me disgusting because of my political views when they are so emotionally invested.

You on the other hand keep referring to my posts when you have nothing to say that interests me.

EezyOozy · 01/03/2022 14:42

Argh, can we stop arguing and being all mumsnetty? It's derailing an otherwise excellent and informative thread.

MarshaBradyo · 01/03/2022 14:43

I was offering support to another poster and you then went in the attack Confused

Yes do refrain from tagging me if so uninterested, I would happily welcome your disinterest rather than you thinking you know so much about me. Seriously.

Don’t take it out on someone else because you don’t want to respond to the person who insulted you.

Go kick a cushion or something if a post of support to someone else upsets you that much.

DuncinToffee · 01/03/2022 14:45

@GnomeDePlume

I read somewhere that Bolsonaro spoke in support of Putin. So if Putin does find himself retired then perhaps a nice Palace in Brazil will be a suitable place for him. What with Covid having gone so well there.
Meanwhile in France; Marine Le Pen's party is binning its 8-page electoral tract, which features a picture of her shaking hands with Vladimir Putin. Apparently that's not a vote-winner any more! 1.2 million copies had been printed.
Thereisnolight · 01/03/2022 14:49

I agree. Take your boring tit for tat argument elsewhere and let the otherwise very interesting thread continue.

MarshaBradyo · 01/03/2022 14:51

Sure I’m happy to ignore not sure why so much anger but will leave it there.

Nachitoches · 01/03/2022 14:54

Amazing footage from Melitopol of Ukrainians stopping the onward advance of a Russian convoy and chanting “Occupants!” and “Murderers!” The jittery Russians are firing into the air

TheSillyMastiff · 01/03/2022 14:57

Fuck sake, came to read and half the blasted thread is bun fighting. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Just leave it, agree to disagree.

Can we get back to updates on the war, political history and ongoing events with verified sources, along with odd light hearted joke about knitting and baking during lockdown.

PM currently in Estonia about to make statements.

Alexandra2001 · 01/03/2022 14:57

@ChardonnaysPetDragon

is a keen dog owner...

There is always one. Can we all doggie bag card carrying dog owners unite and denounce him?

Balance Chards balance!

I don't like being called a fucking cyclist, associated with a mass murderer.

whilst people are being blown to bits and the threat of nuclear war hangs over us, might be an idea to take your dislike of cyclists elsewhere, because like Putin, its irrational.

Damnloginpopup · 01/03/2022 14:58

@Alexandra2001 you say he's ever been a cyclist? You know he may have name changed for that Grin

Yeah. The personal bitchiness is getting tiresome. Personally I appreciate the conflicting viewpoints and see them as a wider perspective. Right or wrong, it's useful to hear.

MarshaBradyo · 01/03/2022 14:59

Apologies! Didn’t mean to fill thread. Was taken aback by personal attack but happy to leave it.

DGRossetti · 01/03/2022 15:00

Meanwhile in the UK "Farage Putin" returns too many results of the bonkers Brexiteer praising the newly created pariah to curate away.

It would be richly ironic of the nuance-free definitely-binary tactics deployed by fraudster Farage et al suddenly caused their star to wane as the mantra about "the enemy of my enemy" suddenly reverses decades of preparation.

Helocariad · 01/03/2022 15:00

@DuncinToffee Ha!

I wonder how many politicians all over the world are frantically shredding or deleting their pics with Putin and rehearsing responses to future probing questions from journalists....

I wanted to quote this because it may have got missed and whatever truth there is to it at least it is something reassuring!

Perhaps now would be a good time for thread number 5.

Damnloginpopup · 01/03/2022 15:01

NB I am an occasional cyclist too, just making a light-hearted joke in regards to mumsnets regular enemy.

workisnotawolf · 01/03/2022 15:05

www.politico.eu/article/belarus-russia-war-ukraine/

Belarus lie as much as Putin does. So if they said this morning they are not sending troops to Ukraine, it was just another typical Putin/Soviet style lie.
Continuous lying to seed doubt. That is the strategy.
So even if we can obviously see the Russian army cracking at the seems without food etc, we end up doubting what we see. We think - are they just pretending to have a useless and unprepared army? However, the US and British intelligence services have observed these Soviet tactics for years, so they won’t be fooled.

UKRAINEwearewithyou · 01/03/2022 15:11

So many lies fed to the people of Russia and Belarus. Sad that they appear to think that the people of Ukraine welcome them and want them to invade their country.

The miles and miles of tanks and soldiers heading towards the capital shows that Putin is determined to take a free country. I feel disgust for him. I wish someone could remove him before more innocent civilians are killed.

The beautiful little girl shot dead in the street with her parents. No words.

I took it as that too
Monitaurus · 01/03/2022 15:14

notimagain thanks for that. What are all these fighters actually doing, while they are up there,? Surveillance, map making, aerial photography? I’m not sure I find it very reassuring somehow. Are they armed?

2ndMrsdeWinter · 01/03/2022 15:18

@Damnloginpopup

Of COURSE he’s a cyclist. It all makes sense now. Actually laughed out loud.

Damnloginpopup · 01/03/2022 15:19

They will be patroling to protect and defend from incursion by other aircraft. They will be armed and will fight as becomes neccesary

SirVixofVixHall · 01/03/2022 15:20

@Igotjelly

Could Putin not just have taken up baking or crochet over lockdown like the rest of us 🙄😡
He could have made himself a nice vest to go riding in.
vera99 · 01/03/2022 15:21

Well if Putin has any kompromat on rumoured Boris's Bunga Bunga parties at Lebedev's mansion in Italy we shan't have to wait too long to see them !

I do struggle to understand how a man who has lived for seven decades, has children and Grandchildren, including alleged toddler twin sons , and who is rich beyond all measure, isn’t counting his blessings and finding ways to help the world, rather than blowing up civilians.
