@dreamingbohemian

Ok this is a really fascinating thread on Twitter:

twitter.com/sbreakintl/status/1498619303717142529?s=20&t=GidybKgvAdzkAtua_NbdSw

Not only because it shows how ordinary people can collect intel these days but because it suggests a staggering level of absolute shitshow for at least some Russian forces. It would explain a lot.

It would indeed explain a lot.

Including the lack of air cover. No ground to air communications. You don't know what the target is and you don't know where your troops are. And desertations.

Just think this was Putin 2 year lock down project. Its not even back of fag packet planning.

RedToothBrush · 01/03/2022 13:43

@Alondra

RedToothBrush

Calling me a Putin apologist, that I was ranting and being patronising with with your pats instead of addressing my post is your choice.

Glad we understand each other.
Alondra · 01/03/2022 13:44

@NewModelArmyMayhem18

Thank you so much for that explanation *@Alondra*.

I see that you cite an El Pais article. Wasn't someone suggesting that Spain had been incredibly quiet in all this crisis?

Spain has been very clear in their support of Ukraine and the commitment to accept all refugees. The government does not support selling arms to Ukraine.
Alexandra2001 · 01/03/2022 13:44

@DGRossetti Yes your meme is unfortunately very true.

As far as i can see, our sanctions have had zero effect, the hurt on Russians here hasn't happened (nor will it) it just seems like a lot of hot air, even the laws to enact the sanctions we have said we will do, they haven't even been passed and no time table either.

Funding for politics seems to be taken precedent.

Belarus? fuck all on that murderous regime.

Motherdare · 01/03/2022 13:44

I’ve had a lovely busy morning and have felt much better mentally today then I made the mistake of checking the news and these threads. I feel as bad as yesterday. Couldn’t eat or concentrate at all.

If the only way this can end is with Ukraine agreeing not to join NATO or the EU and the West acknowledging Crimea as a Russian state…. and if Ukraine doesn’t agree to this… how will it end? Can someone tell me something reassuring? Everyone is saying Putin will never back down. And if Ukraine will never back down? What then?

Igotjelly · 01/03/2022 13:45

Could Putin not just have taken up baking or crochet over lockdown like the rest of us 🙄😡

this war has nothing to do with Putin

Utter, incorrect rubbish.

This is Putin's war.

It is sad that a serious and informative set of threads has been infiltrated by the PutinBots, SWC-ites and false equivalence hand-wringers.

Shame on you and your ilk 'Alondra' Shame on you. You disgust me.

Am off to check for messages from my Russian speaking relatives in Ukraine. The horror thankfully doesn't really seem to have reached Dnipro yet.

If they act up and say they are fearful for the future and are concerned for their friends in Kharkiv, I'll pass on 'well, yes, Yemen' to them.

this war has nothing to do with Putin

I don’t know why anyone would even suggest this and agree with you it is Putin’s war.

I hope your friend is ok, it must be very worrying Flowers

I fear that if Putin's ground missions is unsatisfactory, he will bring out the big scary weapons. Unless there are some seriously capable diplomatic efforts back stage that manage to talk him down, I fear and expect that the situation will suddenly escalate. I hope I'm wrong.

140 diplomats walked out of UN Geneva when it was time for Russia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs to speak.

I'd love to have seen the look on his face!

A letter to the Western Left from Kyiv
The ‘anti-imperialism of idiots’ meant people turned a blind eye to Russia’s actions

For us leftists's a timely response from a Ukrainian leftist and a veritable cri-de-coeur.
@LampLighter414 you sound incredibly anxious if the thoughts and feelings are preventing you from doing your normal work.

I had some therapy for anxiety/depression a year or so ago and saved some useful worksheets. Perhaps have a look at answering these questions, which I've copied, and see if it helps you to reassess things a bit:

 1. Situation / Trigger - What happened? Where? When? Who with? How?
 1. Feelings Emotions – (Rate 0 – 100%) - What emotion did I feel at that time? What else? How intense was it? What did I notice in my body? Where did I feel it? Body sensations
 1. Unhelpful Thoughts / Images - What went through my mind? What disturbed me? What did those houghts/images/memories mean to me, or say about me or the situation? What am I responding to?
What ‘button’ is this pressing for me? What would be the worst thing about that, or that could happen?
 1. Facts that support the unhelpful thought - What are the facts? What facts do I have that the unhelpful thought/s are totally true?
 1. Facts that provide evidence against the unhelpful thought - What facts do I have that the unhelpful thought/s are NOT totally true? Is it possible that this is opinion, rather than fact? What have others said about this?
 1. Alternative, more realistic and balanced perspective - What would someone else say about this situation? What’s the bigger picture? Is there another way of seeing it? What advice would I give someone else? Is my reaction in proportion to the actual event? Is this really as important as it seems?
 1. Outcome Re-rate emotion - What am I feeling now? (0-100%) What could I do differently? What would be more effective? Do what works! Act wisely. What will be most helpful for me or the situation? What will the consequences be?

Also have a look at this website which discusses unhelpful thinking habits like catastrophizing: www.getselfhelp.co.uk/unhelpful.htm
Thank u that's very helpful

Ohmnomnom · 01/03/2022 13:58

Was there ever talk of an American nuclear weapons base being built in Ukraine?

Also, the BBC translator for Zelensky is awful. Is there somewhere else to hear his UN speech in English?

yoolia · 01/03/2022 14:00

Could Putin not just have taken up baking or crochet over lockdown like the rest of us

I did try to invade a country and install a puppet government, but no one paid me any attention.

He shouldn't be given the platform, these people are threatening the whole planet & should be starved of publicity, his speech can be spun and used back home.

Whatever the rights n wrongs of previous wars, this one is 1000% on Putin, violence achieves nothing, if he felt he was being ignored or not taken seriously, he should have used Russia's vast raw materials exports to make his point.

RedToothBrush · 01/03/2022 14:03

@Igotjelly

Sky reporting that prisoner exchanges have been taking place. Clearly diplomacy of some sort is taking place under the radar.
Diplomacy at what level?

Prisoner exchanges seem odd if the result is they are simply free to return to going to go back to fighting. For both sides. Its just a really strange point to be doing it at.

It makes no sense in this situation to do that unless there is something else going on too, like risks to life, or prisoners being a nuisance to look after in the situation (food) on both sides or simply a recognition that the other side perhaps isn't the threat they are supposed to be.

That sounds like local level or low level agreements. Not coming from up top. Certainly not on the Russian side.

Alondra · 01/03/2022 14:04

MarshaBradyo

You are well known for your extreme right conservative political views. Which in a way surprises me considering Putin is, like Trump, very right wing.

I suppose for you is a question of alliances now instead of supporting your right wing ideology - Putin is Russian, bad, Trump is American, good.

Not sure how you digest that but Flowers

OnlyOpenMouthToChangeFeet · 01/03/2022 14:04

Just watched on CNN, Russia warned any civilians living near relay nodes (messaging systems apparently), should evacuate their homes as they are going to be attacked with missiles. If they destroy most residential parts of the city, will no doubt use the warning as an excuse!

vera99 · 01/03/2022 14:04

Hard to know the truth of this but one has to hope.

Last night a large group of RU warships was about to launch landing on Odesa beaches. They approached the coast. RU was about to shell the beach. UA was about to shoot back, when they suddenly withdrew. Reports that marines from Crimea refused to attack Odesa.
