It's bonkers isn't it - we thought 2020 was year from hell, then 2021 started even worse - and we appear to have topped it in 2022!!

Alisae · 27/02/2022 14:40

I’d imagine London would be the very first target. If he truly has lost the plot enough to ‘push the button’ then he isn’t going to give a crap about Russian property/investments in London, he will know it will be a case of M.A.D. He’ll want to get back at the leaders who have stood up to him.

Given how many nukes he’s got he could probably make sure he annihilates the entirety of the UK.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 27/02/2022 14:40

Yes, come back 2020, it's all forgiven.

DuncinToffee · 27/02/2022 14:42

@Andouillette

"Layla Moran already read those names out earlier this week in Parliament. And their names are no secret."

I assume this is a new list.

Yes that could well be as it seems to be compiled by Liz Truss.

@Kassle

How soon is he likely to use them if he does?

There is honestly 0 point in speculation of this kind. All it does is feed panic. And it really doesn't matter whether London is a target. If a nuke hit London it is goodbye to everyone, regardless of where in the UK you live. You don't want to survive a nuclear war (FWIW, I still don't think there is going to be one).

Agree with this. I can't get worked up worrying about possible nuclear war, because if it did happen it would be too late to do anything and there's absolutely nothing we can do here to prepare for it. I also don't think it will happen, because that's a whole new level of crazy.

We will still end up feeling the economic impact of this war for quite a while though, that's worrying enough.

People in the ‘80s said they’d rather die in the initial blast than of radiation sickness later.

“When the Wind blows “ by Raymond Briggs was about this- and made me cry so hard, despite it being a cartoon.

There was a film about the same thing showing a pet cat 🐈 after the blast, that made my ex Serviceman FIL get tears in his eyes.

Wish l knew the name of film.

@ParsleySageRosemary

Who would they be aimed at?

It shows his mindset all right - I’m not winning, the nasty west are all telling me to stop, I’m not getting my way, it’s all their fault. Boo hoo. Here’s my really big gun.

We asked this about Trump - is there’s anyone nearby who would refuse this order?

Yes, people are saying nasty things about me, they are not letting me have my way, the Ukranians haven't bowed down and worshipped me, boo hoo, I'm going to show them by using my really big weapon extension of my penis.

For goodness sake those around Putin must be seeing his descent into total madness, they must step up if they value their futures and the futures of their families and the Russian people.

Tigersonvaseline · 27/02/2022 14:45

Form

Perhaps but with democracy they have a chance.

The guy in prison, other people can stand and be voted for!!

The flame of democracy.

If anyone isn't near the TV or hasn't got a licence, the BBC World Service on the radio have ongoing commentary, interviews etc.

There is video of him telling off his Chief of Military Intelligence. It was chilling.

Thank you, I am specifically worried because my daughter who doesn't live in the Uk is currently in London until tomorrow afternoon, feeling totally sick at the thought of her being there right now.
notimagain · 27/02/2022 14:47

As has been said there’s no mileage in speculating about a lot of this, I doubt anybody here is privy to the Russian lists of targets in the UK..

That said I will then go ahead speculate that if Putin want’s to make a point but not go the full tonto Hmm with everything in the arsenal then a capital city would not be the first choice of target(s).

Wish l knew the name of film. Probably Threads.

BronwenFrideswide · 27/02/2022 14:48

oakleafy it wasn't 'Threads' was it? I remember watching that in the 1980's.

Cheeseandlobster · 27/02/2022 14:48

@oakleaffy the film is called Threads. It's the only film that has ever terrified me

Natsku · 27/02/2022 14:51

Think I'm going to avoid any nuclear attack films, no need to increase my panic!

Sideorderofchips · 27/02/2022 14:51

Threads is available online to watch

It's harrowing

RagzRebooted · 27/02/2022 14:54

I really don't recommend anyone watches Threads right now!
Sideorderofchips · 27/02/2022 15:01

Oh I don't either. Just saying it's online.

I watched it earlier in the week for the first time. Felt sick

DinkyDaisy · 27/02/2022 15:02

Oh God, Threads gave me nightmares!

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 27/02/2022 15:08

The kremlin and gazprom websites are still down. I would have thought that they'd have managed to restore them by this point. It makes you wonder just how capable Russia is at anything. Place is falling to pieces.

formalineadeline · 27/02/2022 15:11

Is Threads the one where a small town community all slowly die from radiation poisoning after an attack wipes out the big cities and infrastructure?

'Yay we survived the end of civilisation, oh no everybody is dead' - that film?

Damnloginpopup · 27/02/2022 15:13

We watched that at school. Seems incredible to imagine that. I remember the F111s hitting Libya from our local bases in Suffolk too. Putin needs to be made to watch that and Nena singing 99 Red Balloons (not being glib, that reached everyone). Watching the wall breached that night in 1989 on TV marked the ending of the cold war and effectively WW2 (that kind of being the remains of it in many ways). Now...I'm waiting for a Berlin wall breaching moment. A proper full stop to this.

Liz Truss, has used the word 'absolutely' in regards to a question about support brits going to take up arms in Ukraine. The foreign secretary. That is the stance, then, of the government. In case the magnitude of this is not appreciated I believe it is unprecedented. Visible support, almost encouragement to do privately what we cannot do officially no matter how much we want to. Short of giving the British Army a month off to go on holiday "see you later lads, don't worry about rushing back" I can't imagine a bigger response. Is there a precedent for this in the UK? I don't recall that happening over the spanish civil war for example but there are some very knowledgeable posters on here who may be able to confirm Orr correct.

I think that's the day after. Threads is about large scale attack on the UK based around Sheffield
NobodysGonnaKnow · 27/02/2022 15:19

I saw this mentioned yesterday but without confirmation online. If he’s been ‘suicided’ any idea why? Knew too much?
