Can we keep this thread a bit better than the other ones without U.K. bashing

Kassle · 27/02/2022 17:39

The UK deserves to be bashed, it along with many other countries has completely enabled Putin.

SpinningTheSeedsOfLove · 27/02/2022 17:39

@oncemoreunto

I did wonder if allowing average Brits to go and fight created good conditions for plausible denial of any other soldiers that they may want to send without formally doing so. Small numbers of spies, special forces or similar.
Yup.
Keepyourheadscrewedon · 27/02/2022 17:39

duncin Johnson, for all of his faults was the first and only one months and months ago warning about the invasion training and planning with Ukraine and supplying weapons and anti tank missiles. I am no great fan, but we have to speak fairly and justly. He was on this occasion, ahead of the curve.

CPL593H · 27/02/2022 17:40

I think Putin, like the madder Caesars, should fear the Praetorian Guard.

Really?

Even now. Don’t you get tired of it? When the threat is this.

I am finding it very difficult to watch the little children clutching their teddies looking so so afraid. I feel so helpless, I have donated to the charities working there I am planning a visit to take stuff to Poland in 4 weeks time, I can get there before. What more can we do to help them?

Gingerwarthog · 27/02/2022 17:54

Op can you start a new thread?

TheSillyMastiff · 27/02/2022 17:56

@NobodysGonnaKnow

The likelihood of any British men doing so is precisely zero.
I dunno, I know a few ex paras, single men in their 30's and 40's there is a rumbling of one or two of them wanting to go. They love war, they love fighting, they feel lost in civilian life. The prospect of being on the front line again for a frustrated paratrooper is quite strong it would appear. We are currently trying to talk them down a bit on WhatsApp and telling them to hold off, but ultimately they are grown ass men who love the adrenaline of live rounds firing over them 😳
cakeorwine · 27/02/2022 17:59

If Putin fired a 'small nuke' at Ukraine - we wouldn't fire a nuke back. Because we know what would happen.

So what does happen if a tactical nuke is fired at Ukraine?

Apart from the consequences for Russia financially, economically and politically from hopefully most countries around the world?

Damnloginpopup · 27/02/2022 18:01

I will be very shortly... absolutely astonishing that we are now nearly on 2000 posts and a thread that is a credit to all involved with quality insights, information and discussion, where it doesn't matter if you have a stupid question or an academic answer, all are equal here! It's an example of the very best of Mumsnet.

I suspect it would be a go from NATO as he could not be expected to hold anything back any longer. That could be argued to directly attack NATO countries through environmental impact perhaps? Anyone better placed to answer that?

It would have to be no-one with with a weapon would get close to him, it would have to be his Security who do it.

I totally thought this as well. Doesn’t even need to be large numbers. But some special forces advising and assisting would be welcomed I’d have thought.

You can't beat British intelligence, it is really something the UK excels at. It is one of the reasons why the UK and EU will be very good friends again in the not so distant future, even if in a different way from before, as a new security council is to be set up - and we are at the top of the list. Lucky us Grin I think this war has shown everyone the importance of working together, remaining close and looking after our neighbours.

See you on the next thread folks. It has been a great thread op, thank you Flowers Gin

GallopingHighRoad · 27/02/2022 18:28

British Intelligence has done well here. We have had the experience of course and still do and it is wide from cyber security to very effective spies on the ground.

Damnloginpopup · 27/02/2022 18:38

It's because they shake their martinis at GHQ 😉

I was wondering what sort of organisations I could approach who might pay me to post on Mumsnet?

Could you point me in the right direction maybe? Obviously I wouldn't want to compete directly with you for work so it's just the type of company, or advertised role, I need really. Obviously I wouldn't want to be working for the sort of disreputable organisations that you seem happy to work for, but just how do you find work like that?

And how desperate would you have to be?

itsgettingweird · 27/02/2022 20:58

@Kassle

Saber rattling.

If we hadn't sanctioned, if he had been permitted to take Ukraine and install a puppet government, then that would have shown him that the rest of the world is not prepared to stand up to him and he just would have carried on and on.

Someone needs to take him out. Who the fuck does he think he is, thinking he can terrorise the whole world into submission? Lord Voldemort?

Interesting you mention lord voldemort.

His words in his speech the other day reminded me of the HP film where Voldemort does the same.
