@Gingerwarthog

User1 - please look at the pictures of the anti-war Russian protesters in St Petersburg. Every single one of them knew they would be arrested.
Yes 426 arrested. Not enough people protesting. If THOUSANDS of Russians joined the protests then there wouldn't be enough police to arrest them. A few is not enough by any means.

The silent majority need to join the very tiny number of protestors. If it isn't in their name that Putin acts them more need to shout this, not sit back and watch.

NobodysGonnaKnow · 26/02/2022 18:16

@OnlyOpenMouthToChangeFeet

At last. BBC reported

"Germany has backed imposing ""targeted and functional" restrictions on Russia's membership of the Swift payments system"

Good.
User1isnotavailable · 26/02/2022 18:17

@Gingerwarthog

Please don't discount or disparage those Russian protesters. They are incredibly brave.
I agree. What is needed is more of them. Lots and lots more. Thousands more. Then Putin will have to listen. Whilst the numbers are very small they have little clout. They need mass action and they cannot all be arrested.
cakeorwine · 26/02/2022 18:17

Where are the nice people of Russia. Any on here. What do you have to say about your leader and the actions of YOUR country

In Germany, people who resisted Hitler were guillotined in summary executions.

In Russia, they are are arrested and face consequences.

Would you protest knowing the consequences?

dreamingbohemian · 26/02/2022 18:19

@User1isnotavailable

Do the Russian people have no backbone, do they support their leader? I would assume they support Putin because they carry on whist he invades another country.

Putin is one man. One man. Do the people of Russia support him. It appears they do since the whole country could if they chose to do something. They sit silently whilst their country invades another, killing innocent people.

Russian people should be ashamed of their country. More sanctions, more condemnation of their actions until they realise that what Putin is doing is either in their names or not.

Putin is a dictator. There is no freedom of speech, press or association in Russia. There are government controls on all media and the internet. Frankly it's amazing anyone has protested at all, they are going to jail for who knows how long.

Look at what Putin has done to Navalny, tried to assassinate him with poison and now he's locked up in prison. All for opposing his regime.

Look at what Putin has done to dissidents abroad. In the UK even! with plutonium and novichok!

Ordinary Russian people are not responsible for what Putin does. There has not been a fair election in Russia in what, 20 years.

Agreed. It is easy to be brave from behind a keyboard but less so when faced with the system in Russia and the potential repercussions of protest. Those who do stand up should be applauded.
tabulahrasa · 26/02/2022 18:21

@TheHoptimist

Doctored how?

Fake news- so the whole of the Uk media is showing faked news about Ukraine

They were talking about the photo images and how you could see they were all faked (doctored)

Sorry - clumsy question, I didn’t mean how as in the practicalities of it, I understand how media is doctored.

I mean, in what way? As in, what do they think is being misrepresented.

dreamingbohemian · 26/02/2022 18:21

Not enough people protesting. If THOUSANDS of Russians joined the protests then there wouldn't be enough police to arrest them.

Do you know ANYTHING about Russian history

MarshaBradyo · 26/02/2022 18:22

I agree with the last few posts

It’s easy to type but it takes real bravery to do as they have

Tigersonvaseline · 26/02/2022 18:22

Did any ones see , some major russian Comms were take down and replaced with Ukraine music!

Alexandra2001 · 26/02/2022 18:24

He would gun them down, as China and Myanmar have done.

Don't under estimate what these people will do to stay in power.

purplesequins · 26/02/2022 18:24

I've seen on twitter a german hacking group stating they hacked russian state organisations and have taken their websites down.
DearlyBeloathed · 26/02/2022 18:24

You really believe a madman like that will care?

Tigersonvaseline · 26/02/2022 18:25

It's one of those situation where so many people might come out but they are scared.

How many heavily armed police surrounding a woman's with a baby?

These images needs to be widely broadcast really.

The Man run over in the car by the tank ( he survived) the man trying to stop the tank.
The woman with the baby protesting against the war surrounded by heavily armed Russian cops

dreamingbohemian · 26/02/2022 18:26

Well well well, apparently Germany is going to send 1000 anti-tank weapons and 500 Stingers to Ukraine

I guess they're finally waking up!

Tigersonvaseline · 26/02/2022 18:26

Yes.

I'm not expecting lots too come out but yes huge numbers would of course put pressure on him, the system s.. logistics, money.. where too put them all..

Tigersonvaseline · 26/02/2022 18:27

Dreaming, too little to late I think.

It could be all-over tonight and they need equipment in the capital

Ramalamadingdongs · 26/02/2022 18:29

*Oh my. Has Putin really bombed a Ukrainian orphanage!

Where are the nice people of Russia. Any on here. What do you have to say about your leader and the actions of YOUR country*

Do you know anything about life in Russia?!

How would you like to be held personally responsible for something that boris did?

cakeorwine · 26/02/2022 18:29

I wonder if YouTube has been banned yet in Russia?

That's a very powerful way of showing what is happening. Especially live streams.

(Although I know it can be faked)

cakeorwine · 26/02/2022 18:30

@Tigersonvaseline

Losing a capital does not mean losing the war.

If London had fallen in WW2, the fight would have carried on.

Ncwinc · 26/02/2022 18:32

’You really believe a madman like that will care?’

I don’t think that anyone becomes or stays leader of a country without caring what the people in that country think about them - even if it’s just that the people better keep their mouths shut or they’ll be killed. It’s important to him to be seen to be in control.

dreamingbohemian · 26/02/2022 18:33

I don't think it's too late. I don't think it will be over tonight. Even if they take Kyiv quickly now (which I don't think they will) the war will continue.

Gingerwarthog · 26/02/2022 18:34

That's powerful action from Germany.

oncemoreunto · 26/02/2022 18:35

We know people protesting against Putin, they have done for a while now.
Their dd can hardly sleep at night for worrying about them.
Protesting in Russia is very dangerous and you need to be very brave to do it.

CPL593H · 26/02/2022 18:35

Re the President using SM to communicate. I know many things can be faked but I think we might know if Boris J or Rees-Mogg (for eg) had been captured and a stand in was being used.
