What did we see last night..?

We had been away for a few nights and travelled back quite late. Towards the end of our journey, this was about 2am, we were driving along an A road in a rural area when something crossed the road in front of us in full headlights for about 3 seconds. It was about the height of a person, maybe 6 feet or over, but had short powerful legs and hips which seemed to move in a circular fluid fashion. It was not a deer because it stood on two legs. This was in the midlands and the area is traditional rolling fields and woodland. In this particular spot there are no houses or buildings, nearest is over a mile away. We drove back today as its only 7 miles from home to look at the road layout and whatever it was moved into a wide bowl shaped field dropping down to a stream. Any ideas?

I believe this maybe ManBearPig, he is my brother. I am ManBearGoat. He left his cave and obviously got lost. Apologies

@EmmaH2022

This is a short thread but mentions the London thing

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/4036307-Big-cats-in-the-wild-Uk

Mum hails from a country with big cats and also wonders why people think it's impossible. All kinds of everything gets smuggled in and out of everywhere.

It's not like claiming you've seen Nessie.

I've seen Nessie

Oh i was riveted by the snow storm camping pod one.

Does anyone remember the chalet in the snowy mountains one? Foot steps leading from the forest to the snow outside the windows in the morning. OP was the Nanny iirc.

Interested in this thread?

Oh it's here as well OP!

Just gone on one of the local village FB pages and it's on there with a link to the above.

StanVic49 · 23/02/2022 19:33

Only commenting as it’s not very often I see the village (PH) mentioned! My family are from there.

GallopingHighRoad · 23/02/2022 19:36

@Katya213

You have made the papers!!
Yay!! We've made the papers!

We should do similar to the RSPB and have a Big Monster Watch this weekend. Pub suppers followed by torchlight searches across the Northamptonshire countryside. Smile

That is the lay-by. The gateway is just ahead on the right and it came right to left. At least they have identified the spot correctly.

LadyLyndon · 23/02/2022 19:44

Katya213 · 23/02/2022 20:00

EmmaH2022 · 23/02/2022 20:01

OP
Like I say, free this weekend. No car though. But I suspect some MNers would like company in the car...happy to be the one who goes out to follow IT....

Any reasonably priced hotels nearby?

EmmaH2022 · 23/02/2022 20:02

I can bring those handwarmer thingies.
JohnStonesMissus · 23/02/2022 20:46

Argh...you're famous OP! On a serious note I do wish the papers would just do one, now we're going to have every Tom, Dick and Harry looking for it.

JohnStonesMissus · 23/02/2022 20:46

Bugger I wish I lived near the Midlands...I want to come! (stamps foot)

Laiste · 23/02/2022 20:47

The WoodfordHalse FB page OP.

(am following close at the mo due to their whole bus service just being cancelled. no busses for Byfield, Chipping Warden, Wardington, Charwelton or Badby at all to anywhere now!)

sorry for off topic

Come!

I've lost the plot where we are going but if there's a train and a budget hotel, I'm in! It will be fun!

I'm in London. But I fancy an adventure. If I just see a white stag I will be well chuffed.

OP would you consider DMing the road name? I have a feeling this thread is going to vanish like the creature!

GallopingHighRoad · 23/02/2022 20:58

Have DM you @EmmaH2022

I would be a bit worried about lots of cars on that road late at night. Safety is a factor. Getting ripped apart by a River-Dancing Prancing Goat Man is a lesser worry Grin

JohnStonesMissus · 23/02/2022 21:03

I would love to Emma, but I'm in London with DH and the kiddies this weekend...can you do a live stream? (only half joking)...Please say you'll do another GHR Monster watch? I'd love to come to that if I can plan in advance!

JohnStonesMissus · 23/02/2022 21:05

I still want to live there just to see the monster!

Laiste · 23/02/2022 21:21

You can see that little lay-by really clearly on google earth/map

I've put 3 pics of it here, gradually zooming out. In case anyone wants to find it on maps themselves and have a virtual look around (rather than a physical look). You can see much more of the local area like this than you can from a car.

My cursor is pointing at it in the middle of each pic.
You can google street view the A425 and follow it along, but they didn't map the side road by the deer park it seems.

EmmaH2022 · 23/02/2022 21:39

Thank you OP, really appreciate it.

Laiste, you are much better with online maps than I am!

John, I would definitely be up for that. Maybe a warmer night would be better!
