What did we see last night..?

We had been away for a few nights and travelled back quite late. Towards the end of our journey, this was about 2am, we were driving along an A road in a rural area when something crossed the road in front of us in full headlights for about 3 seconds. It was about the height of a person, maybe 6 feet or over, but had short powerful legs and hips which seemed to move in a circular fluid fashion. It was not a deer because it stood on two legs. This was in the midlands and the area is traditional rolling fields and woodland. In this particular spot there are no houses or buildings, nearest is over a mile away. We drove back today as its only 7 miles from home to look at the road layout and whatever it was moved into a wide bowl shaped field dropping down to a stream. Any ideas?

Here in Warks there’s a white wallaby, could it be that?

runsmidgeOMG · 20/02/2022 17:35

@GallopingHighRoad

The gigantic hare is not far off...but not at 6ft though.

The closest we can describe is a large man-goat on hind legs, but really stocky ones. Obviously not that though. No animals in surrounding fields when we go there today.

Oooh like mr tummus from the lion, witch and the wardrobe 🙏🏻🙏🏻

Sasquatch?

Laiste · 20/02/2022 17:37

Near the borders of Northamptonshire and Warwickshire OP.

RovenderKitt · 20/02/2022 17:38

Colleagues found a wallaby in our work car park once. Local zoo denied it was theirs but took it anyway. They had previously lost a puma. Not in the Midlands though.

DestroyerOfHouseplants · 20/02/2022 17:39

Mr Tumnus. #helpful

GirlInACountrySong · 20/02/2022 17:40

I once had a thread like this and the thing I saw was identified as a muntjac

GallopingHighRoad · 20/02/2022 17:41

Wow @Laiste
Exactly there! What's your nearest settlement?

If you use Google Earth - go to:
52 degrees 15' 12.58"N
1 degree 15' 30.28"W

Layby close to the Warks/Northants border. We parked there and what we saw came from the gateway by the muckheap and crossed from N to S and into the field below.

100% not a wallaby or kangaroo. I know what they look like and their size.

Anywhere near the West Midland Safari Park in Worcs? I heare some of their fences had been damaged by the storms. Don't think they have wallabies or kangaroos though. Kangaroos can be very big.

Wonnle · 20/02/2022 17:44

Twas The Shuck !

Papergirl1968 · 20/02/2022 17:44

Crosspost, sorry. Not by the safari park then. What colour? There are reports of big cats in the Midlands but they wouldn't be on hind legs.

BeagleBeagled · 20/02/2022 17:44

Have you googled goatman legends?

OutsideVoice · 20/02/2022 17:45

Can you draw it?

There’s an escaped wallaby round here, usually mistakes for a large cat or giant rabbit, so my guess is that it’s not a wallaby.

Cheesewiz · 20/02/2022 17:46

Skin walker

Chikapu · 20/02/2022 17:46

The Pope Lick Monster on holiday?

Laiste · 20/02/2022 17:46

Nearest settlement ... i'm going to say Priors Hardwick.

(trying to work out how to do google co-ordinates! lol)

GallopingHighRoad · 20/02/2022 17:48

Not a kangaroo, goatman, slenderman, sasquatch. These things don't exist.

Colour - dark brown, but always hard to tell in full beam.

On A425 after Staverton travelling West. Road drops down a hill then rises back up again before the lay by spot.
Coincidentally @Wonnle the next village on the road is called Shuck-burgh.

Thin bear.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 20/02/2022 17:49

A poacher...

Sexnotgender · 20/02/2022 17:49

Bear?

TheSpottedZebra · 20/02/2022 17:50

Did it walk on 2 legs or 4?

Two - and yes the 'thin bear' is best way to describe it. Droppy shoulders, but wide hips etc at base. But obviously not a bear in UK.
