What did we see last night..?

We had been away for a few nights and travelled back quite late. Towards the end of our journey, this was about 2am, we were driving along an A road in a rural area when something crossed the road in front of us in full headlights for about 3 seconds. It was about the height of a person, maybe 6 feet or over, but had short powerful legs and hips which seemed to move in a circular fluid fashion. It was not a deer because it stood on two legs. This was in the midlands and the area is traditional rolling fields and woodland. In this particular spot there are no houses or buildings, nearest is over a mile away. We drove back today as its only 7 miles from home to look at the road layout and whatever it was moved into a wide bowl shaped field dropping down to a stream. Any ideas?

Our house backs onto woodland - a small nature reserve. I love it! No chance of being overlooked, and we see so much wildlife.

OK, that's a great idea @Laiste. Virtual drawing until I get home and retrieve my dubious portrait.

Firstly, it was going right (gateway) to left (hedge and field that drops away). The head shape is about right, but it did not have horns. More like woven hair sweeping up/back that made it look 'goat like' and have the appearance of horns. The hind legs were not as distinct as you have drawn and I would not say they were hooves at all now with recollection. More like large plate-sized feet, but something was making them difficult to pick out the detail - hair or something making it blurry at the lower level as it moved. It was also more upright. It had stripes or similar on its nose now I recall.

Are you sure it was an animal and not simply a farmer crossing the road in this awful weather so was dressed for the weather. Trousers tucked into wellies that were caked with muck, jacket on and the stripy nose - I'm going with a face mask/scarf that caught your attention.

@LookItsMeAgain Definitely not a farmer and not lileky to be a poacher either. If you knew the area, its just not where someone would be at that time in the morning, there is no need for an arable farmer to be there.
