What did we see last night..?

We had been away for a few nights and travelled back quite late. Towards the end of our journey, this was about 2am, we were driving along an A road in a rural area when something crossed the road in front of us in full headlights for about 3 seconds. It was about the height of a person, maybe 6 feet or over, but had short powerful legs and hips which seemed to move in a circular fluid fashion. It was not a deer because it stood on two legs. This was in the midlands and the area is traditional rolling fields and woodland. In this particular spot there are no houses or buildings, nearest is over a mile away. We drove back today as its only 7 miles from home to look at the road layout and whatever it was moved into a wide bowl shaped field dropping down to a stream. Any ideas?

Skinyness. But that is much better and better than my drawing 100%!!
Now, it wasn't slouched - it was more upright. The arms were not muscular, but you have the position right an even the curl back on the hands. the stripes were not across the nose but back from the nose towards the face, but it might not have been stripes as such, could just be wounds/hair/dirt. The feet were not as defined as that and were thicker, but they were moving and our focus was on the head and upper body. But to be honest this is as close as you could get.
Are you sure you haven's seen it already and its in your subconscious?

Mostlyjustrunning thank you!

I'm a bit shite at drawing people unfortunately. I'm hoping not too much of this creature is humany .... Grin

In fact - the hair. They need to come out and lay down lower. Think along lines of rastafarian locks, if that makes sense.

Its a 6ft tall badger!

Marcipex · 21/02/2022 17:21

@0blio brilliant find!

So….part Womble, part goat, part Herne the Hunter. Is that right?
And upright like Hagrid?

I believe you completely, but I haven’t seen this one myself.

Stravaig · 21/02/2022 17:22

Midnight film shoot for Carnival Row? (If hooves & horns.)

Military night-training exercise in full camo & face paint?

Fab sketches Laiste!

Laiste · 21/02/2022 17:24

The face - is it flat or long nosed?

Fuzzy303 · 21/02/2022 17:24

could it be an upright badger ?

GallopingHighRoad · 21/02/2022 17:25

Long-nosed. Like your drawing.

No - that's perfect. Don't do anymore as its as good as you can get. The only thing I would say is the feet were less defined, but with hindsight it is because we did not focus on them as much, mainly the torso and head because of how tall and upright it was. There was some vagueness and bluryness about the feet do to movement, poor light etc so difficult to recreate. But otherwise that's about it!

Was it Swampy???
GallopingHighRoad · 21/02/2022 17:42

I am going to have to conclude it somehow with all the help suggestions and especially @Laiste drawing. I am verging on an upright deer, perhaps with some brambles or something wrapped round its legs, doing something really weird like out of The Far Side on a cold winter's night.

But worth a check, so we are going back to those roads tonight with a flaks and a blanket.

@ShallWeTalkAboutBruno

I have seen a wild Wallaby in Warwickshire. No one believed me until I found actual news reports of them!
Me too in Oxfordshire nobody in my family believed me,quote from a family member “why didn’t you take a photo” I was driving at the time
cheffie74 · 21/02/2022 17:46

Upright deer with brambles does sound feasible. But- don’t they shed antlers after rutting season?

And your phones ready to catch it!

I was wondering actually, if you can find the gate would there be any tracks in the mud?

It's twilight now and the wind has dropped a tiny bit i think. Good luck!

I'll prob drive past you at some point Grin

oakleaffy · 21/02/2022 17:50

oakleaffy · 21/02/2022 17:53
