Huge huge huge fuck up with lease car

Hellrow · 08/02/2022 17:05

Dh got a lease car for us 3 years ago, he went for an annual mileage of 8000, we live in the sticks and drive long distances regularly I told him it would be nowhere near enough and he said the excess mileage was 0.8p a mile so less than a penny and it works out cheaper just to pay the excess mileage fee then it does to pay for more miles

Lease is up, we've gone over our allowance by 12402, and we've had a bill for excess mileage of over £11k! 11 fucking k. It was 8.96p per mile. He plucked this 0.8 number out of his arse and we now have to find £11k to pay for excess mileage when it would of only cost £2500k max if he'd paid for the right amount of mileage at the start.

We just can't afford it I'm so angry at him, it was all in his name so I didn't see the documents. I'm so so upset Sad

I was going to say that the most excess mileage i have seen was 17.7p per mile.

Nearly £1 per mile for excess mileage is unheard of

pikapikapukachu · 08/02/2022 17:52

This post has made me smile, sorry OP GrinGrin

Oh bless you. Nothing like an unexpected bill to make your stomach drop and your brain to seize up. Wine.

The thing is, you might be a bit daft but you'll never be as daft as the woman on the other thread who wants to build houses in the sea 😀😀😀

Good news that it’s ‘only’ £1100 OP! Grin

Iamthedom · 08/02/2022 17:57

I never paid mine 😂
They asked for it
I forgot to pay it

They never asked again
That was over 4 years ago

Cakeandcardio · 08/02/2022 17:59

Is it definitely a lease or pcp deal? They are different. I had a pcp deal with a low mileage. At the end, the said I had to pay x amount. I traded my car in with motorpoint who cleared the finance / final payment and I got a new car. No need to pay any mileage charges.

Lifeisaminestrone · 08/02/2022 18:01

Hahaha @HollowTalk that would take some doing!!

Toanewstart23 · 08/02/2022 18:02

Didn’t YOU track of the mileage

Lsquiggles · 08/02/2022 18:05

Omg OP you must be so relieved, I was horrified for you there for a second! Grin

Topseyt · 08/02/2022 18:06

Oh dear! That is just the sort of ridiculous miscalculation I could make. Grin Grin

Having to admit it to DH would also be something else. I don't envy you there. Mine would never let me live it down. Blush

This thread is such a wild ride from start to finish

ancientgran · 08/02/2022 18:13

@Hellrow

Oh my bloody god I'm an idiot who can't do basic maths. What a bloody relief. Yes letter said what mileage was included and excess cost and to be paid within 30 days. I've been crying over this for an hour!!!
Glad it's a happy ending. Hope you are feeling better.
DePfeffoff · 08/02/2022 18:14

I was going to recommend a large Gin but perhaps you can keep it till the baby's born!

Oooh, which one?
Itsalmostanaccessory · 08/02/2022 18:15

I dont think you can ever be mad at your husband again if he gets a number wrong because you just did it too! That's kinda funny. Glad it has worked out!

entropynow · 08/02/2022 18:15

Lease cars are a rip off. Still fuming about the company that 'sold' one to my dying 86 year old mother (wish she'd mentioned it to us or we'd have warned her) and six months later wanted £6000 to reclaim it with less than 200 miles on the clock. The ombudsman? Said they were ok to do that.

ComDummings · 08/02/2022 18:17

Maths isn’t my strong point so I could see myself making a similar mistake OP Grin at least it isn’t anywhere near as bad as you thought

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hellocatshome · 08/02/2022 18:18

Thats usually the kind if thing I would do and have a massive panic over until someone who could do maths steps in to safe the day. Glad it all worked out OK in the end OP.

Bagelsandbrie · 08/02/2022 18:20

I actually love this thread as it makes me feel so much better as I regularly panic like this and can’t work things out straight! Hope you are okay op. ❤️

EngTech · 08/02/2022 18:20

Cheaper to actually buy the car?

SparkleSpangle · 08/02/2022 18:21

Decimal points are a bunch of pricks.
