A day pottering around the house doing odd jobs while the weather is wet and windy. Just had a lovely bath and now watching Masked Singer with the fire on

Took my daughter into our local big city today on the train. We had a super time and it was lovely to do something “normal”.

We’ve been so cautious since the first lockdown but we’re starting to do more now. Mainly trying to get used it to manage my anxiety before all rules etc disappear in March!

I put some fotos up to fill the old thread .

Drinking a glass of Prosecco on my own. Not sure if I'm celebrating or self-commiserating, but enjoying it nonetheless. I'm spending a final weekend home alone in my childhood home, which I left for the big wide world 33 years ago, where my dad died 10 years ago and where my mum still lived until she died in October. I'm giving it a final spruce up and deep clean ready to go on the market next week. I've sprayed the oven door for hopefully the final time, so now I'm sitting down for a glass of fizz before I give it one last scrub. So glamorous!

Lemons, service can be slow in restaurants here too. They're often short-staffed due to covid. Your DS sounds like a very easy baby. Mine was too, then I learned the truth of the old saying, "God gives you an easy one to trick you into having another".

meddlein, I'm sorry about the loss of your dear mum. Getting her house ready to sell must be really difficult. I'm going to be doing the same at some point and I'm absolutely dreading it.

We've had a small bird feeder crisis. The perch ring had such a build up of ice that it pulled the port covers down, cutting off access to the seeds. This is what keeps the squirrels from raiding the feeder. DH got an outdoor extension cord and took my blow dryer outside and used it to melt the ice off the feeder, returning it to normal operation.

I'm making mac & cheese and DH will be grilling burgers on the charcoal grill shortly.

We had fish and chips for dinner ( takeaway) and the fish was so light and crispy.

Thanks, halfpast, it's our standard Saturday night dinner, weather permitting. Usually, my son and I make the mac & cheese while DH does the burgers, but DS is back at uni so I was on my own.

I love fish and chips, but most places here (I'm in New York) don't make it that well.

I'm in Ireland Miss, maybe our lovely potatoes have something to do with it!

Chips are one thing that American restaurants tend to do well, it is usually the fish that disappoints. There is one place near us that does it well though. I'm sure you have outstanding potatoes, half.

capital, how old is your daughter and what did you do in the city?

For those who are new to the thread, I have a question if you don't mind. Were you following the old thread at all or did you decide to just join this one? It's only relevant because we all have a bit of a backstory (where we live, kids, jobs, etc.) that you may not know.

Now watching my cats work out how to get treats out of the cat toy. One is showing grit and persistence. The other has flounced off in disgust.

It is 3am and I'm eating a jacket potato. Due to a fridge stacking malfunction my coleslaw is frozen solid - it has made the whole experience somewhat unique

Delurking to say hello. I am currently drinking a cup of tea in bed, scrolling through MN and listening to the seagulls who are being very noisy. I will get up soon.This thread is always so lovely and calming.

@MissConductUS I followed (and posted once or twice) a previous thread in November when our family had covid. I love the relaxing nature of them. Posted this time as couldn’t work out how to follow and get notifications My daughter is 5 and we went to the cathedral, an exhibition and the book shop. Managed over 13,000 steps so we were busy! Nice to be tourists in our own city. Thanks for the new thread.

Very very windy in night.

I've known these threads existed for a while but only decided to join this one last night.

I am drinking my second cup of tea while mentally preparing myself to give my house a full service of tidying, cleaning and sorting for a fresh new week.

Contemplating seeing the doctor tomorrow for the hugest bruise I've ever seen, which is on my bum (in total it's larger than my hand). I say in total because where I slipped and landed on the edge of the stair, it squished the tissue and only bruised in a ring shape and left the middle un-bruised, but swollen and stings immensely every time I move - absolute agony, it's almost like I can feel the tissue splitting when I move. This happened last Monday morning

DuckPancake; try arnica gel if you can get it-it's very effective. Also homeopathic arnica pills.
Very windy here, one of my dogs is convinced something's coming through the dog flap to "get her; the other one couldn't care less.

I have done the ironing: 7 linen shirts. And I have found a shop selling wide shoes, where I will go on Wednesday after work (it is a simple, flat black shoe I want - no white bits, glittery somethings or interesting material mixes).
Cooking is my job today - oven vegetables and potatoes.

ZZ, I'm exhausted just reading your list. Did you go to the store in Freeport or shop online?

capital, five is a lovely age. She'll be a teenager before you know what happened, so treasure it now.

duck, do see a doctor. That sounds like more than a simple bruise. You might have torn something or bruised a bone. I'd ask for an x-ray too if I were you.
