@Lemonsandlemonade just nipping back on to say that you can definitely get the squirrel-buster feeders that MissC described over here - we have 2 in our garden (we have very persistent squirrels).

They’re not cheap, though imho they’re worth it. This is where we got ours from: www.gardenwildlifedirect.co.uk/the-squirrel-buster.html

I like the sound of the ones that give them a mild shock but they might be a US-only thing….

YanTanTetheraPetheraPimp · 08/02/2022 13:25

So sorry to hear about your DH @sueelleker 💐
I delurk from time to time, I love reading about everyone’s mundane lives, mine’s like Groundhog Day most of the time. I frequently have to check what day/date it is.
I have a new washing machine but it seems to have interminably long programmes for everything 🥴. At least it performs silently unlike its predecessor that sounded absolutely horrendous.

MissConductUS · 08/02/2022 13:47

Hilda, The one you linked to is from the same company as my current feeder. The WIld Bill feeders don't seem to be available from garden suppliers in the UK, but you can buy one on ebay.

Wild Bill's Squirrel Proof 8 Station Bird Feeder

I did witness a few squirrels doing flying backflips off the feeder. Grin Here's a video of a squirrel trying his luck with the feeder.

Ah I stand corrected 😀 will have to tell DM.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 08/02/2022 19:31

No squirrels on my terrasse.

The shop on the ground floor has been rented out at last. Now you can get simple sandwiches / cakes and a daily dish of basic Turkish cooking (Hausmannskost) there. The local taxi drivers started taking their breaks there and the guys from the sourrounding construction sites.

Sunbird24 · 08/02/2022 19:53

I had a hearing test today, hate them because all you can hear is your heartbeat and occasionally a different quality to the silence in your headphones, but I passed, hooray!

Doobydoo · 08/02/2022 20:15

Robert the suckerfish..well done. That has really made me smile. My Hrt patch is still on.

Champagneforeveryone · 08/02/2022 20:34

DDog1 is back from the groomers. We've not been there before and sadly he looks no different to when he arrived, apart from his feet which were ridiculously fluffy and now look like he's wearing ballet slippers.

He doesn't even smell like (as my grandmother would have referred to it as) "a tart's handbag". TBH he is whiter than when he went in but that's the best that can be said about it Hmm

Champagneforeveryone · 08/02/2022 20:47

My latest one, the lady told me I had 100% hearing. As I beamed inwardly she delivered the killer line, "for your age"

Hmm Grin

Down to 3/6 household occupants infectious after DC3 got their 2nd negative and released on Monday. Will start testing DC4 and DC1 tomorrow and see if they can escape early.

Silkierabbit · 08/02/2022 21:08

Went to hospital to get my results today, very stressful as DD upset as leaving then arrive to be told an hours wait on my own in waiting room waiting to hear how far cancer has spread. I was quite upset and they took me in earlier and then said why didn't you bring anyone with you. Reason was they said I couldn't many times but then surgeon said yes you can I just changed it and she shifted next appointment to video for me, a Valentines Day oncology appointment. No cancer in any of 22 lymph nodes removed so 1 lymph node out of 25 with cancer. I did think of asking for my arm back please but just glad no cancer in that part and they think they got it all out of breast when operated and removed the two tumours. The surgeon is also trying to get the nhs to fund the oncotype test as an exception as normally you have to pay £3k or so if any nodes positive. She also said there is a trial now can take part in where people who are just in the chemo threshold like me can either have oncotype test then chemo or not depending on result or chemo but up to them what group you are in. I want the test.

The pets were cute when we left for hospital, the cat wanted a cuddle from me and purred very loudly, then the rabbit bounced over to me then the silkie heard and started calling me so I saw them all. When we got back rabbit was watching over the silkie again like her protector. DD told DH and I off for being noisy as she had a 6th form interview, I wondered why and then realised we had just been doing chicken impressions.

The weather forecast for our half term trip has changed from all rain to hail storms, rain and sleet. Hmm Good job there is a pool and I am healing well, I am allowed to do backstroke, breaststroke and doggy paddle but no front crawl.

MissConductUS · 08/02/2022 21:21

That's really good news overall, Silkie. Do try to get the oncotype testing done. It will really inform your treatment plan.

Champagne, it's rubbish how our senses degrade with age. For me it's vision. I used to be able to read the spine on a paperback book from 30 feet away. Now I need glasses to read small type.

Ducks have appeared on the reservoir. I don't know if they just recently arrived or if they have stayed over the winter.

@Silkierabbit 1 out of 25 - that was my count, too , and a surgeon with common sense and kindness Smile!
Your menagerie sounds lovely.

And I admire your "Sturmfestigkeit" Grin

HelenaJustina · 08/02/2022 21:35

silkie sorry the day got off to a bad start but so pleased it improved from then on. I want a cup of tea and some chocolate but will have to leave the sofa to get it.

Sunbird24 · 08/02/2022 21:35

That sounds like good news @Silkierabbit, will keep things crossed for you getting on the trial 🤞

@MissConductUS we have a pair of geese on a pond near me but I daren’t try and get a photo as they’re a bit hissy!

halfpasteleven · 08/02/2022 21:56

Wishing you all the very best Silkie. I hope you get the test you want quickly.

Lemonsandlemonade · 08/02/2022 21:57

That sounds more positive Silkie.

Loving the use of the word menagerie Prok!

Name labels came today for me to put on DS clothes etc for nursery. Felt a prang of apprehension and sadness. Silly I know. DS still rattly and sounds wheezy.

Nydj · 08/02/2022 22:04

Silkies that sound positive and I’m so glad you have a sensible consultant too.

HildaTablet · 08/02/2022 22:24

So glad to hear you’ve had some more positive news, Silkie

Silkierabbit · 08/02/2022 22:51

Thanks all, encouraging you had same result Prok and still going strong. Grin

Love the duck pictures MissC. DS has a duck obsession and would love some ducks.

The silkie has been very chatty today, for some reason she only talks to me. DS said its because I am the right height for a chicken to talk to. Easter Confused

Silkierabbit · 08/02/2022 22:54

I can definitely get on the trial but think that has a 50-50 chance of getting test paid but the surgeon is trying to get it paid any way so guaranteed. Otherwise I may have to negotiate before signing. Though DH has offered to pay which is a sign of true love from him as he hates parting with his money. DD was just moaning today about that and asking me to intervene.

wildthingsinthenight · 09/02/2022 08:05

@Moneypennysfreedomfund

Have become friends with elderly couple on the Avenue, they are funny, warm and just lovely … elderly husband helped me when lawnmower blew up, put my hand held cutter together etc… we swap vegetables/ fruit from our gardens ….

Today, the wife came over having found a trinket in the charity shop to show me her prize from fossicking in the shop. Duly admired her find, cup of tea etc….she wanted to show her son, doesn’t have internet and views it with some suspicion ( has an elderly cell phone circa 1998)…. Was utterly dumbfounded when I took photos, got her sons email address via text and sent the pictures …. Such a tiny act and anyone would have thought I’d presented her with the Crown Jewels. Have now appointed myself as her internet secretary and looks like many more treasures will be photographed and sent….

Nice neighbours are worth diamonds…

This is LOVELY
wildthingsinthenight · 09/02/2022 08:08

I might unbox my new steam cleaner/mop today. It has been in the corner of the dining room for 5 days now..
Just wondering.. do I want banana porridge or a cinnamon and raisin bagel?

Morning all xx

Makiwa · 09/02/2022 10:06

Gosh, the thread has moved on quite a bit since last Friday. Thank you for the offer of your recipe Miss - I shall send you my email address.

Silkierabbit I'm so pleased that your news was more positive than expected and that silkie has adjusted well enough to her new environment to be clucking to you.

SueFlowers I hope that you have RL support.

I am sitting down for a mid morning cup of tea and listening to the news. You'll be pleased to hear that a young French woman has won a silver medal at the winter Olympics bringing the French medal total up to 6.

Silkierabbit · 09/02/2022 14:00

Thanks Makiwa.

The Scottish weather forecast has just got even more impressive for our break thankfully I only booked 2 nights and at a hotel with a pool, it has gone to 2 days of hail storms with a fresh breeze, 1 day of sleet with a fresh breeze and 1 day of rain (day drive home).

DD says the silkie also chats to her so maybe she prefers girls though DD said she backs away from her if she gets close whereas she was trying to get as close as possible to me. DD says its whenever you talk she talks back. She said rabbit also always bounces over to her but says she has stepped on his paws a few times - poor rabbit - as he gets overexcited and dances around her. She said its sweet how rabbit protects chicken but anyone with food could bribe rabbit to abandon the silkie in about 1 second.

Had smoked salmon and scrambled eggs and now having a cup of tea.
