Oh and in cake news, DC2 made white chocolate blondies yesterday which really hit the spot.

DuckPancake · 06/02/2022 18:57

DS is munching on some apple sans skin before he goes to bed...

I have a dull ache in my tummy, period incoming.

Pleased with my house tidying progress in the end today and two loads of washing done Smile

MissConductUS · 06/02/2022 19:15

Welcome back, @Sunbird24, and sorry to hear about your trousers. DH has ruined a few dress shirts over the years with uncapped pens. Years ago I was working on a church clothing sale and a woman wanted to donate a pink blazer with a huge blue ink stain on the front. Even worse, she wanted me to give her a receipt stating that in was worth $200. Needless to say I didn't accept it.

Good luck caring for your covid patients, HelenaJustina. I made jam thumbprint cookies yesterday and may make some chocolate chip ones tonight for DS's care package.

@sueelleker I’m so sorry for your loss Flowers

Nydj · 06/02/2022 20:19

I’m so sorry for your loss, @sueelleker.

Welcome to all the new posters and delurkers; and welcome back to @Sunbird24.

We lent our car to someone for a few days and they found a puncture this morning. They spent most of the day getting the puncture sorted. The car was returned with a full tank of petrol - it only had half a tank when we lent it. I feel very grateful to them for all this but bad that their Sunday was spent sorting out our car.

I had a very big brunch today (hash brown, two slices of halloumi, fried mushrooms, sautéed cubed potatoes, scrambled eggs and toast!) - it left me so full that I could only manage cereal for dinner.

Nydj · 06/02/2022 20:21

Thank you for the new thread, Miss - number 21! And thank you for the interesting photos to fill up the last thread Prok.

TheDuchessOfAvon · 06/02/2022 20:31

@MissConductUS thank you for the warm welcome. I have been staying with my DM and DF who live near the coast this weekend but have now returned to my more inland home. I grew up by the sea and am determined I will live there again some day.

@HelenaJustina, I am Leonie, I have always admired her spirit. I first read These Old Shades as a teenager and went on to read all of Georgette Heyer's novels, most of them several times. I love her writing and find her very soothing.

HelenaJustina · 06/02/2022 20:36

nydj that sounds divine.

Duchess they are my comfort reads too. I think The Grand Sophy is my all time favourite but An Unknown Ajax is also up there. I’ve started DC3 on her murder mysteries which they have really enjoyed. Not gory like a modern book would be, but witty with some great characters.

LlamaLucy · 06/02/2022 20:36

Had a walk by a church and heard the bells. Sat all wrapped up in the garden, finished my book, and started a new one, and the dog cuddled me the whole time. Treated us to an Indian takeaway tonight, but the chicken was raw. Had a gin and tonic instead.

GoodbyeKat · 06/02/2022 20:56

Tested twice on LFT both negative

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 06/02/2022 21:04

Let me tell you (slightly and calmly proud) that I finished 3rd in the diamond league. I have made a simple owl very happy. Grin

MissConductUS · 06/02/2022 21:37

Welcome, @LlamaLucy, and thanks for sharing your news. Did you complain to the restaurant about the raw chicken? I would have taken it back.

Welcome, @GoodbyeKat, great news about your antigen tests.

I've had a nap. We are having a Zoom call shortly with my lovely MIL and the two DC, both away at uni. I've just filled the bird feeder and am having a coffee. DH is going to grill teriyaki chicken breasts for dinner and we'll have some leftover mac & cheese.

So very sorry to hear your news Sueelleker.
Sorry you have a house full of Covid HelenaJustina. I think I will make some white chocolate and raspberry blondies as soon as I get round to it.
I should be off on leave this week. I think I will need to do at least one shift as a colleague has Covid. I haven't managed to successfully take a whole week off since last august.
I had to take down the bird feeders yesterday as they had been blown about in the wind. I will fill them up and put them back tomorrow.

mathanxiety · 06/02/2022 22:37

Greetings!

I missed the end of the last thread - busy week.

We had a heavy snowfall on Wednesday but the streets were back to normal by Thursday evening. Everything else is still blanketed with snow.

I had to take down my bird feeder as it's accessible to squirrels. I spotted one shaking seeds out of it with his little front paws, the clever little blighter. I need to find a better spot to stick it.

Sitting watching the Winter Olympics now - I made a nice big chili yesterday with diced pork tenderloin and red kidney beans, with Polish kluski noodles because they were on sale. We usually have wider American style egg noodles with chili.

mathanxiety · 06/02/2022 22:41

@sueelleker - heartfelt condolences. I hope you're holding up ok. This is a bleak enough time of the year even without suffering such a loss.❤️

Champagneforeveryone · 07/02/2022 03:04

A new week dawns where I expect my estate agent, solicitors and surveyors to deluge me with correspondence and updates

It has been "blowing a hooley" (very windy for the non Brits Wink) but seems to have calmed down. It's very muddy which is strangely pleasing as DDog1 is going for a haircut on Tuesday. The nice lady will make him white again (much against his will) so he can have a proper thrash about in the mud later so I get my money's worth Grin

Lemonsandlemonade · 07/02/2022 05:38

@mathanxiety squirrels are clever things they can in my experience open any bird feeder even the ones designed to stop them.

Sore throat still rumbling on. DS still asleep at 5:38 which is unusual for him.

autienotnaughty · 07/02/2022 06:17

Yesterday we went to the park with dd and dog. It rained.

MissPeregrine · 07/02/2022 06:34

I’m new to this, never spotted the previous thread.

Just drinking my first cup of tea and then off to take a shower.

IWanderedLonely · 07/02/2022 07:28

Sue Flowers, I'm so sorry.

MissConductUS · 07/02/2022 14:06

Welcome, @autienotnaughty and @MissPeregrine, and thanks for sharing your mundane news. I found it quite calming.

Lemons, I have found two feeders that the squirrels have never breached. This one gives them a tiny electric shock when they touch two parts of it:

Wild Bill's 8 Station Squirrel Proof Bird Feeder

They will have a go, get shocked and then give up. This is our current feeder, which has also outfoxed them:

Squirrel Buster Plus Squirrel-proof Bird Feeder

When they land on the perch ring their weight causes it to slide down and a metal shield covers the seed ports, so no gain. I've seen them try to attack it after leaping off the roof and landing on the top, only to fall off. Now they settle for the seeds the birds drop on the ground.

Champagne, if it's any consolation, it's snowing here again and is supposed to rain later with rising temperatures. This has turned into a bloody hard winter. Regarding your house purchase, try to think of it as an international trade negotiation. Those can take years.

Champagneforeveryone · 07/02/2022 14:50

I'd prefer it if it didn't take years miss Wink

Probably too exciting for this thread, but today DDog2 went for a short walk with DH. She has never been out alone with DH in case he allows someone to touch her trotters, or a crisp packet flutters in the hedge so today is truly momentous occasion.

DDog2 will be 8 next month Hmm

HildaTablet · 07/02/2022 14:50

I'm so very sorry to hear about your DH Sue Flowers

Lemonsandlemonade · 07/02/2022 18:02

@MissConductUS honestly don’t think there are anything like that in uk but haven’t looked.

Have a meeting tonight 😬

autienotnaughty · 07/02/2022 19:33

@MissConductUS thank you I'm enjoying this thread it's like having lots of neighbours!

Today I painted an orange room blue.
