Smoked salmon and scrambled eggs is the food of the gods.

wildthingsinthenight · 09/02/2022 19:52

I steam mopped the kitchen and bathroom today then took my mum and dad out for a sandwich and a mooch round the shops.
DH and DS watching football now and I am half watching and reading

wildthingsinthenight · 09/02/2022 19:53

I love smoked salmon and scrambled eggs but not together for some reason

MissConductUS · 09/02/2022 20:08

Wildthings, how does the steam mop work? Is there a water tank that heats up before you use it?

I am not a salmon fan and am okay with scrambled eggs but prefer fried. For me, an omelet with brie cheese and bacon is the food of the gods. A little mild salsa on top is good too.

I had an executive recruiter reach out to me yesterday about a job he's trying to fill. He's either desperate or he doesn't realize how close to retirement I am. Grin

It is raining again - does anyone remember the lorry driver who was a rain god (Douglas Adams). Whenever I go outside there is water from above.
DD and I will go looking for shoes tomorrow after work. She'll meet me at the office.

Yes there is a water tank and pads for the bottom that you wash and reuse. It's very good actually
Silkierabbit · 09/02/2022 21:22

Had a brocolli, cauliflower and potato bake for dinner, us and veggie DD. I am trying to cut out as much red meat as possible and cannot eat chicken since we got the silkies. I love salmon and eat a lot of smoked salmon, scrambled eggs I only eat with smoked salmon, prefer poached or boiled if a choice of eggs.

Silkiecat has not realised that the silkie is a chicken. When you mention chicken she gets excited but has not even noticed there is a silkie next door, I think she just thinks the rabbit is now more annoying that ever now he has started going bork-bork. She was giving him her best glare for cardboard box bashing the other day as it was noisy. She can howl at times but that is different.

DH is playing piano and I will have cup of tea. I need to do my exercises for today. I am wondering about being brave and doing another Scottish weather check incase its gone to 20C and sunny. At least its good for salmon.

mathanxiety · 10/02/2022 05:17

We have had a brief warm-up - meaning no overnight freeze last night, the first non-freezing night for a long time. The result is vast slush puddles.

I was pondering joining a gym which is advertising rates of $10 a month and no fees, but it seems they will charge an annual fee in a few months and there are the dreaded 'taxes and fees' on top of the $10 per month. I am on the fence.

Fingers crossed they will fund the test, Silkies.

Lemonsandlemonade · 10/02/2022 06:18

Had first case of Covid at work today. On my day off too meaning I spent some of my day in work. 🤦‍♀️.

Aside from that yesterday had a lovely day. Swimming and out to lunch.

HelenaJustina · 10/02/2022 06:29

First ever @Lemonsandlemonade ?!

We’re now on over 100 since the start of September. I’m so tired of managing our response now. I’m tired of chasing work for isolating children, dealing with stressed parents, the WhatsApp chatter about who has it and how many cases, running our testing programme, tracking and reporting the cases… I know it’s not going anywhere but I wish it would!

Sorry… in dull news I’ve tested negative again this morning so will be able to do a large food shop this evening.

Champagneforeveryone · 10/02/2022 06:50

Good news about the negative test helena, how are the rest of your clan doing?

I received an email from BA yesterday regarding our flights. Despite me booking, paying for and doing all related admin for them, the email (to my) email address is addressed to mrchampagne Hmm

Works drinks this afternoon, these are normally what could be politely described as "messy". I find I have little appetite for such shenanigans the older I get

Lemonsandlemonade · 10/02/2022 07:49

@HelenaJustina yeah how I dunno! As far as we know anyway.

That sounds enormously stressful. Hard enough doing the job in school! Hope your crew are doing ok with their isolation etc.

Forest school today for me.

@Champagneforeveryone having things addressed to me lemons when it’s me been dealing with it is way annoying.

IWanderedLonely · 10/02/2022 07:59

Pleased to hear your good results Silkie

I noticed yesterday that our Ponden Mill have a 70% sale. Going g to pop in on my dinner hour, since we redecorated our bedroom last year we've only had 1 quilt cover.

MissConductUS · 10/02/2022 16:49

Math, do you have a YWCA or YMCA near you? Those can be a good alternative to a gym. I've decided that a good stationary bike and some free weights in the house are sufficient and since I don't have to go anywhere, I actually use them.

Champagne, as someone who has been teetotal for many years, I'm curious about how your works drinks are messy? I'm assuming you don't meet pints being tossed around or punch-ups.

Since I discovered that my sciatica is being caused by arthritis in my lower spine I have been researching what can be done about it. I've concluded that this is beyond me and have booked an appointment with a rheumatologist in my medical group. The only problem is that his first opening was at the end of April.

Yes, there's one about a mile away. Parking in the vicinity is next to impossible - I used to bring the DCs to Swim and Gym there many years ago and nothing has changed in the interim. Parking fines make up a large portion of the municipality's income, so I think I'll hoist out the mini stepper from the bottom of DD4's closet and see if it still works. It takes up next to no floor space and if I place it next to the mantelpiece I can use that for balance while I huff and puff and feel my thighs burning.

So nice to see the word 'fossicking' used by Moneypennysfreedomfund upthread. It's been years since I last heard it.

HelenaJustina · 10/02/2022 17:26

@Champagneforeveryone Best of British! Hope it goes with a swing…

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 10/02/2022 17:53

Fossicking - definitely not on the non-native's list of words. What does it mean and when would I use it?

18 active cases in DS school of about 750 - so f2f again.

And I have simple, comfortable black slip on shoes sold to me by a trained "Einzelhandelskaufrau Fachrichtung Schuhe" - like in 'the old days' Grin

Champagneforeveryone · 10/02/2022 18:33

I lasted two and a half hours and have sloped out to meet DH in a pub with nice beer and where I can hear myself think Wink

miss things will deteriorate throughout the course of the evening. My job requires you to be a certain type of person - put too many people like that in a bar together with a few drinks and things will get loud and uncontained very quickly Hmm

HelenaJustina · 10/02/2022 18:44

To ‘fossick’ is to rummage or search. Particularly applied to old things. ‘He spent a good deal of time fossicking through the old manuscripts’ or ‘I enjoy a good fossick round a charity shop’
It’s original meaning applied more strictly to prospecting for gold or previous gems.

mathanxiety · 10/02/2022 19:25

I think there is a certain element of pleasure to fossicking that you don't get in rummaging. It's delving into or poking through things in a way that is its own reward.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 10/02/2022 19:34

Helena and Math - so like 'stöbern' for things and 'schmökern' for books. I like it and will find an occasion to use it Smile - thank you.

MissConductUS · 10/02/2022 19:43

Champagne, one nice thing about not drinking is that when I am forced to attend a gathering where everyone else is drinking, I get to observe the deterioration in thought, word, and behavior that happens over time. Things do get louder too.

The ducks seem to have departed the reservoir. I haven't seen them since I posted that picture. They were probably just stopping on their way to somewhere else. I miss them a bit.

mathanxiety · 10/02/2022 19:46

Yes Prok - and I love that there are two different verbs for books and things.

MissConductUS · 10/02/2022 20:34

My job requires you to be a certain type of person

Champagne, do you work in law enforcement? I've probably been watching too many British police procedural television shows. Smile

Well done on testing negative Helena

We have just had steak fajitas which were nice. I also had an apple earlier and a slice went to wabbit who was very excited, he could enter the Guinness book of records for the fastest eater of apple ever. Easter Grin The silkie was very loud this afternoon, we are not sure why but when DS came home she got much quieter so maybe needed an audience. The cat is still puzzled how wabbit makes such loud noises all of a sudden. Confused Silkiecat.

DH has finally made a decision about the 3rd night of the Scottish trip and as the price has fallen for the hotel he decided we could book a night in Edinburgh. He even decided on a 4th night but that was scuppered as the special deal he had wanted was 2 nights only and he wants 1 night as we have to be back for schools. That was too overwhelming for him and now we need a break before booking the final night.
