I bought a new duvet set online on Saturday.
It arrived today and for once I am pleased to say the colour is even nicer in real life than on the screen.

LoveFall · 22/03/2022 21:55

@Prokupatuscrakedatus

My eyes are pretty much ok. Pressures ok except very high normal in one eye.

I have a scratch on one eye that needs antibiotics. Weird I don't know why. Still need drops for glaucoma.

My eyes are dry so need a drop for that too!

Referred to glaucoma specialist.

The bread photo looks great!

I'm glad I went to eye doc!

Silkierabbit · 23/03/2022 01:14

Sorry you DB is still waiting Lemons Hopefully not too much longer. The waiting is hard especially when you know you have cancer and just want it treated. Thinking of you all.

DD just came for a midnight chat with me, woke up poor DH who is really tired, he had to take me to chemo on Monday so had to catch up on work then cat to vets for urine infection on Monday though that was quick 15 mins or so as just in village and today was working and hoovered downstairs, took bins out, cleaned chickens and rabbit, bought the food though at least we are 1 min from shop and prepared the meals so he really deserves a rest. If I can avoid being sent to A&E rest of week should be easier.

DD said she wants to go to Paris by herself at Easter to stay with MIL and would that be viable. So she needed me to look up rules, its OK as long as she gets second covid vaccine a week before travel. She told me she keeps getting bad headaches one sided which never stop for past couple of months, doctor is prescribing migraine meds that also work for anxiety though I wonder if she needs better checks first. It could quite well be stress and she told me I was just anxious due to my cancer. Also said about eye test though seems fine. She needs her British passport redoing, has her French one but not sure can get back on that. She is mature enough though a bit worried she would pick up covid on trip and MIL is 88 and I am doing chemo though she does keep her distance being a teenager but MIL is a kisser and hugger. Will ask DH is there is somewhere else she can stay though see how MIL feels too. Think MIL found DD a bit much last time though DD enjoyed it and the aunt helped a lot. DD has a French speaking mock on 24th April and says it will help which it will do if she doesn't return with covid and think its 1 in 20 or so here now and not sure about trains but driving not an option with my chemo and I can't travel.

Just managed 5 mins exercise of arms, even with steroids I am too shattered to do more, just on 4mg a day for 2 days plus whatever they gave me on Monday. Will be interesting to see how I go post Wed when anti-sickness and steriods stop.

Lemonsandlemonade · 23/03/2022 06:14

@Silkierabbit thanks re DB it’s awful and DB is crap at communicating with me.

It must be so hard trying to avoid covid for you. Cases are up here with us but most people I know only test when they have quite a few symptoms.

In my limited experience, I once worked with/looked after a child who had a medical statement due to cancer, I seem to remember them being so very tired the second or third day after chemo and needing lots of ice cold water anything else didn’t cut it. We had lots of days doing limited work and lots of cuddles.

Silkierabbit · 23/03/2022 06:46

lemons It may be worth your DB putting a complaint in to see if that can speed things up - I did one to PALS (English thing) and cc'd Chief Executive guessing his e-mail when getting delays, also messaged MP. The Chief Exec one I think got it sorted same day and got phoned with results that day, pre-op next day, operation on Friday after being told would need to wait another 2 months. I just put about the effects on me and my family and that I appreciated NHS was under funded and over worked but cancer can be fatal and needs to be treated urgently. Complicated though if having to use English hospital as well and some just across the border aren't great.

Silkiecat has woken at 6am and is most disgruntled that DH has not prepared her second breakfast, her first was at 12.30am appalling service. Birds have been singing since 5am lovely to here. Think the steroids are coming into their own and piriton sleepiness wearing off.

Its so sad when kids have cancer, and worse bit hitting day 2 to 3 I think is normal with the 3 week chemo. Mine is weekly so its more stable in effects, I was told to expect rubbish every day instead of dire, then rubbish, then OK but varies from person to person. It apparently normally follows a trend so you record it though its supposed to accumulate as well but at least I am on the 3 month version (12 Mondays, 11 to go) and not the longer versions.

Just messaged the carpenter again, one day we will get one, really want the integrated dishwasher and integrated fridge adding in but been trying for 6 months to get someone, 2 promised but never turned up, so much demand now they can pick and choose. DH thinks it may reverse now due to inflation but we will see. DH has given up and got up.

I have watched more Below Deck Sailing Yacht.

Spudlet · 23/03/2022 07:58

Sorry for everyone’s medical woes. Hope you’re still feeling ok Silkie, that you hear about your DB soon Lemons and that your eyes aren’t too sore, Lovefalls.

Silkie, I know you’ve bought them now but if you need to get more ice packs, have a look at www.physique.co.uk/. I buy a lot of my work stuff from them - they have a 4 for 3 offer on most of their things, so you might save a bit of money. They do instant ice packs in the sports injury / pitch side section of the website.

All very mundane here at the moment - Spudpup appears to have stopped being sick, but is feeling persecuted because we have had to confiscate several of his favourite toys after he made big holes in their and started to destuff them. I will mend the holes this morning and give them back (until the next time). I am also going to get the sewing machine out and alter some of my work blankets which are too wide - I can halve them and regenerate them and get two blankets for the price of one.

I know it’s getting warmer here because we have a fly in the kitchen - downside of living in the country is that we get lots of flies in warm weather. DH is poised with the swat, but it seems to have gone into hiding…

Silkierabbit · 23/03/2022 10:11

Thanks for the link Spudlet, I have already ordered things from Amazon but good to know another source. Its ice packs in socks and gloves you get but need to change every 20 mins or so so you need about 5 lots though found they lasted longer than 20 mins. The nurses were telling me I was moving too much for my cannula but it stayed fine. Wow the steroids are really having an effect today and full of energy after being half dead past two days thanks to piriton massive dose with chemo. I now feel quite invisible like could go and assonate Putin but think I will just stay in my cottage instead as that may not end well. Grin Now can't sleep but last day of them, hope there isn't a crash after but will get more on Monday. Still getting chest pains but sure its indigestion and bit of tingling in hands and feet and dry mouth and jaw/teeth pain but much better today than last two.

Both kids at school, DH wfh. Silkiecat has had 2 breakfasts and is now sunbathing. DH went to see the rabbit and the silkie and the rabbit was bouncing over to the silkie but she was giving him the evil wing, think its as she was eating and she knows he is really greedy and ate all her hay before. Rabbit was OK I will leave you to your food silkie but I still love you a lot.

LoveFall · 23/03/2022 18:58

Silkie, I have had to take a LOT of steroids in my life due to colitis. I totally understand the energy thing. I feel like staying up all night and deep cleaning the entire house! For me, sleep is very hard.

I have been prescribed some sleeping medication (zopiclone) for those times and it does help a bit. I only took it when on prednisone.

Also finding a cool blanket as I got very hot. I have something called a cooling blanket I got on Amazon. It is light and silky on one side and soft on the other. It actually does help me feel cooler.

A bit of gentle exercise helps too. A walk in the fresh air close to bedtime.

I have always had to taper down slowly but you probably won't have to as you get short bursts, not weeks of it. I did notice feeling a bit sluggish and achey.

For me one of the worst side effects is weight gain. I feel ravenous all the time, but especially at night. Having things like rice cakes help but honestly a peanut butter and banana sandwich is what I crave. Go figure.

I hope you just get that full of energy feeling and nothing else.

You are amazing!

Silkierabbit · 23/03/2022 19:58

Thanks for the kind advice. I managed to do 30 mins aerobics today which was good, full of energy and feeling invisible though no sleep for 24 hours (but slept a lot in piriton phase like a half coma so fine) and now getting drowsy, no more steroids until Monday now.

I feel hungry a lot with it but small and often seems to work and only eating about 1300 calories a day so hopefully won't put on weight, was a bit shocked by how much some women put on in chemo like 4 stone. Shock Drinking 2 litres a day which helps. Think they may be giving me indigestion but that is fine though the chest pain with it is a bit freaky when you've been warned a lot but sure its indigestion as improves when air comes up.

Still my normal temp, in a fleece onesie with fleece bedding. No meds tomorrow, will be interesting to see how it goes.

Got DSs draft EHCP sent through today, listened to music, now back to zombie land. Silkie told rabbit off again with a warning noise as she was eating and he was trying to come in and pinch her food. I got DH to give them peace offering pineapple and all is fine again but food is a very serious matter. Rabbit has industrial quantities, he is just a very greedy rabbit. When silkie first came inside she was a bit nervous now she is telling rabbit off and he knows his place. Grin Silkiecat sunbathed all day. I cleared a lot of old e-mails and contacted a few people, may as well do things whilst I can. Losing feeling in mouth which is weird, just sent a message to team think its OK but always best to check.

Silkies, could you get something like this to lug the cooler with? It's a foldable luggage dolly, good for camping, travel, shopping, etc..
Glad the chemo went ok. DD's proposed trip to Paris sounds fun.

DD3 has bought plane tickets to Dublin for May/June, setting off soon after her final exams. I realised when she told me she was about to pull the trigger on the tickets that I had forgotten to remind Dsis and DM about her plans, having first broached the idea with them last August when it was just a gleam in our eye.

We had localised flooding here today thanks to a downpour that went on for over an hour. In the next week or so I expect to see a good deal of ruined basement items left out in the alleys.

DS has been sick as a newt for the last five days but managed to go to his rotation today and ate solid food tonight.

Silkierabbit · 24/03/2022 05:38

Hope you DD has a nice trip Math and your DS continues to improve.

Have just had to stay up all night as LA sent us EHCP to review and gave us 1 day as dated it 10 March and sent it on 23 with 15 day response time by post. Have done by e-mail but a 30 page document and I still feel a bit rough but done now.

Thanks for the link. I did look online with the parking fine and although our ticket says £60 no reductions it says online it can be £30 if paid in 14 days and the normal parking takes about 1.5 hours longer as you have to walk 30 mins each way then go to 2 departments so we may just pay the £30 each time as its 1.5 hours out of DHs work as well each time and I am not at all sure I can walk that far with chemo. It does say online there are 30 min drop off spaces though we could not see any and ones by A&E are further and always full but will look out for those. They may let us drop off and not fine, the first time was fine.

Spudlet · 24/03/2022 08:10

Feel your pain with the EHCP process Silkie, it is awful. That’s terrible that you had so little time to review it - really bad of them!

Our coordinator says she ‘hopes’ that DS will have an educational psychologist allocated to him within the next two weeks. It’s been over 30 weeks since they agreed to assess him Angry I have a call booked with a local SEND advisory service in a couple of weeks, so I’ll be asking about how to complain about the delay on that. Grrr.

sueelleker · 24/03/2022 08:22

I've got a dog behaviourist coming this afternoon. Since I lost my husband 8 weeks ago, my 2 (mother and son) have been snarling and growling at each other a lot. No physical fighting though. I'm pretty certain it's related, but want to see if she's got any ideas which might help. I'm using lavender oil in a diffuser, which helps a bit; but she may have some other ideas.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 24/03/2022 17:15

My DB went to the renaissance exhibition www.die-grossen-meister.com/ and told me in no uncertain terms that I had to go and see it for myself, so I am trying to book a slot for next week.

Just fed NDN cats and DH is still positive and quite fed up (being sick).

MissConductUS · 24/03/2022 20:18

Hi all, sorry I've been AWOL, I've been dealing with a small crisis at work that is mostly resolved at this point.

Silkie, sorry about the issues dealing with your LA. I've been there too. If it's any consolation, parking is a nightmare at most hospitals here too.

Sue, pets are very sensitive to any change in the household. Our cats were really thrown off when the kids left home for uni.

Today has been damp and dreary. Tonight is Tex/Mex takeaway night, so that's something to look forward to. Smile

Spent a while ironing out a few details for DD's upcoming trip or making checklists of things she needs to take care of - medications and copies of her prescriptions, questions to have Dsis ask her doctor about any medications that might be on a banned list, electrical adapter, questions to answer about her phone provider and her bank, and estimating what clothes to bring. DD is surprised that everyone keeps on saying 'sweaters'.

The grass is now all green again. Wahey!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 24/03/2022 21:43

Hello Miss only 8 more posts Smile

We had an almost warm and sunny day here, but it will not last. We need rain.
DS and I will (after 4th semester grades and 'Zulasssung' have been announced) in a little celebration get rid of all the school paperwork he no longer needs. That is everything apart from English, biology, maths and geography. Special attention will be given to art and physics.

MissConductUS · 24/03/2022 23:21

Prok, thanks for the warning. I was only vaguely aware that we were that close to finishing this one. I've started a new one, but as usual, let's try to fill this one before we migrate over.

By the way, the Tex/Mex was fabulous. I had a fried shrimp taco and a ground beef (mince?) taco.

It's time to order new uniform, and my old gear is a little snug obviously shrunk in the wash

So now the dilemma. I can't help but think that ordering the next size up is a slippery slope, but nowadays I'm all about comfort over style

HelenaJustina · 25/03/2022 06:41

Sorry it’s been damp and dreary with you Miss we’ve had absolutely gorgeous spring week here. Highs of 17, cool mornings, clear skies. this is probably our week of summer
Glad the crisis has cleared up though… my work one hasn’t, but I’m still testing negative so fingers crossed I stay that way and remain one of the last few standing!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 25/03/2022 07:44

My cactus flowers. Smile

DH and DD still positive.
DS and I are negative and he is off to the Science Museum with his biology class and I will get my hair cut.
Lovely sunny day here.

Hope you got some help from the dog behaviourist Sue

Lovely pictures Prok Quite a nice day here too.

Glad you had a nice Tex / Mex MissC

Sorry the washing machine is shrinking your clothes Champagne

Hope you can sort things at work Helena

Well done on organising your DDs trip Maths

DD has now finished mocks set 2 so think next is the real thing. I have been feeling much better Wed and Thurs though on charge from steroids and can't sleep and have a few wierd things going on like can't feel gums and indigestion but could be so much worse. No more meds until Monday's chemo now.

Just ate a turkey and coleslaw sandwich and having a cup of tea. My mouth feels like flames could come out of it. Had a few more e-mails re EHCP.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 25/03/2022 08:01
