Just come downstairs to make a cuppa as baby DD has only just gone to sleep and it's so cold. Heating is set to 18 at night, and it's not come ok but it's soo chilly. We have a modern house but loads of windows 🥶

@Purplecatshopaholic what I was thinking too.

Ours ranges between 18-20, any lower and it's too cold (house is 20 years old 🤷‍♀️).

I've always known I'm supposed to be living in a warmer climate 😂

megletthesecond · 15/01/2022 07:33

I've just remembered that when DS was a newborn I turned the heating down at night to make sure the room was cool enough, nearer 16°.
I was freezing and XP pointed out my lips were blue. I don't generate heat when I'm still.

aramox1 · 15/01/2022 07:35

Off at 10:30. Can't bear it on at night! House is around 14 now (2 outside)

Oh wow, can’t believe how cold some of your houses are. I have mine at 21.5 during the night and defo can’t do lower as I keep trying then realising why I can’t do it - it’s too bloody cold!
How much are your heating bills?! We don't even have sit at 21.5 during the day as I'd get way too hot!

Ours is still off at the moment as we're both in bed and according to HIVE it's 14.7 degrees in here. We have thick duvet on and I still have my feet out of the covers as I'm too warm Grin

Longdistance · 15/01/2022 07:59

Ours switches off at 10pm and back on at 6am. It only stays on if it’s snowed overnight.

Longdistance · 15/01/2022 07:59

Sorry, 18°c

RedHot22 · 15/01/2022 08:08

Ours goes off at 7pm and on again at 5:30am

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 15/01/2022 08:10

I wonder how cold it would have to be outside for the 5deg frost protect to kick in!

-25 I reckon

sleepyhoglet · 15/01/2022 08:11

Nornally not at all but with a newborn it's been at 21.5 and I've been sweaty!

Booksandwine80 · 15/01/2022 08:19

Ours is off at night. With the prices going up am planning to switch it off a bit earlier in the evening if possible Sad

dementedma · 15/01/2022 08:22

Off at night and off most of the day too unless really freezing.

hopeishere · 15/01/2022 08:26

Off at night unless its absolutely freezing. 22 in the main parts of the house. Kids hate it too hot so their floor is about 16.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 15/01/2022 08:26

Off at night, usually around 10.
Goes on whenever the first of us gets up - we do it via the thermostat.,

When I woke up a couple of weeks ago the thermometer said it was 7 inside It think it might have been 0 outside? Certainly no more than minus 2 anyway I think mine's set to come on if it gets below 7
Serendip20 · 15/01/2022 08:31

I turn the thermostat down to its minimum overnight. Temperature wise its effectively the same as switching it off but (for no particular reason) I like it that the core system is still running

Or maybe not so cold, but off in the daytime, so it doesn't heat up then.

Something to bear in mind if you go away in the winter months.

Those of us with Hive or similar probably have a 'holiday' setting, where the temperature is so low that the heating won't come on, but there's no danger of pipes freezing, possibly with a gradual raise to normal temperature ready for when you return.

Enzbear · 15/01/2022 09:06

No heating on at night except for the towel radiator in our ensuite which is on constantly every winter. We sleep naked under a thick duvet and if we do need a wee in the middle of the night, we don't freeze.

MackenCheese · 15/01/2022 09:40

Hearing is off from 9pm to 6am.

MackenCheese · 15/01/2022 09:41

And heating!

DinosApple · 15/01/2022 09:49

Off from 7.30pm to 7am. Coldest it has got to is 10 degrees.

We have it on for an hour in the morning and two in the evening in winter, but we're out in the day. Electric blankets on beds with teddy fleece duvets and hoodies and blankets on the sofa. It's fine.

buzzandwoodyallday · 15/01/2022 09:52

20.5 degrees all day and night. I have a 2 year old who won't sleep under a duvet or blanket though.

passionfruitpizza · 15/01/2022 09:54

17 at night, any more and it's difficult to sleep.

ScabbyHorse · 15/01/2022 09:57

12 degrees at night

onedayoranother · 15/01/2022 10:42

Heating set at 18 day and night. I grew up in New England and no one turns the heat off at night. I go to bed at midnight get up at 6.40 so to get the house warm it would have to come on at 5 so hardly worth it. I used to have a timer so it went on a few hours in the morning then again in the late afternoon evening. Can't see I notice a difference in my bills.
My American friends would say 18 is too cold - in LA the heat would come on if the outside temp went below 21c!

AuntieMarys · 15/01/2022 10:47

Heating is on 5pm- 9.30pm. Never on overnight or in the morning. If I'm in during the day, I may boost it then.
