Just come downstairs to make a cuppa as baby DD has only just gone to sleep and it's so cold. Heating is set to 18 at night, and it's not come ok but it's soo chilly. We have a modern house but loads of windows 🥶

Off all night, but we use electric blankets. I like quite a cold bedroom with a warm bed in winter.

MiddleParking · 13/01/2022 23:31

It’s set to 16 which means it’s effectively off all the time unless we actually want the heating on then we set it to 21. That makes the house like a furnace within about half an hour. I would hate to have the heating on at night!

DoTheyKnowItsLemonJuice · 13/01/2022 23:32

We also both wfh and do use it a lot in the daytime though! Probably more than we should.

Mine is the same @Poshjock it's so hot and we've still got a 4 tog on from the summer. The house retains heat well so the heating doesn't come on even though it's set to 18° over night.

NursieBernard · 13/01/2022 23:33

No heating at night and have the window open too.

HunkyPunk · 13/01/2022 23:34

Heating goes off at 11. Comes on again at 7.30. Duvet’s lovely and warm!

PattyPan · 13/01/2022 23:34

15 and it came on last night!
18 is too high for nighttime imo, that’s what we have it set to in the day…

eagerlywaitingfor · 13/01/2022 23:36

20.5 from about 4pm till we go to bed, then down to 18.5 overnight. But it doesn't usually kick in overnight anyway. Our thermostat is on the warmest wall in the warmest room in the house though.

Thecomfortador · 13/01/2022 23:36

Constant arguments in this house. I'd happily have it low enough for it not to click on at night, however DP insists anything under 21 is icicles. He does work late on but just feels the cold so much. His general opinion is that I must be unwell not to feel the temperature around me the same way he does. I just think he has no idea how most people live and it's not normal to have it so high.

TheSmallAssassin · 13/01/2022 23:37

Ours is set to 9°C, I think - basically off at night. You will sleep better at night if it's colder than the day (scientific research confirms this)

I've recently upped it from 16 overnight to 18. I don't think it comes on though, just feels very cold. I usually have it on 21 but up it to 22 in the day. I hate being cold, even with the ridiculous the cost. I have recently got a smart meter and my electric part is low ( also have solar) but the gas is the bulk of the daily cost.

It's off at night. Who needs the heating on when you are in bed?

worriedatthemoment · 13/01/2022 23:38

Mines set at 18/19 all time
Newish build and our radiator in bedroom is on frost setting so never comes on and kids on about 2 as always warm upstairs
The heating barely goes on at night though as it holds the heat from the day well

OnlyTheTitosaurusOfTheIceberg · 13/01/2022 23:38

8°. Don’t need it on overnight so it’s just set to protect the pipes in the event of a freeze from 11.00pm - 6.00am.

Scarby9 · 13/01/2022 23:38

Switched off overnight.
It comes back on at 17 degrees at 6am.
That feels warm enough after how cold it can get at night, and I get up about 6.30 and leave the house by 6.50, so it's enough.
I have a massive 17 tog duvet!

startled · 13/01/2022 23:40

17/18 °over night
22° when we are in daytime otherwise 20°
Can't cope being cold daytime or too hot at night

Sparklingbrook · 13/01/2022 23:41

Off at night and window open all year round.

PlanetNormal · 13/01/2022 23:43

Ours is turned off at night. It comes on for a couple of hours in the morning then off until 5pm. I WFH but I refuse to have it on during the day on principle.

DappledThings · 13/01/2022 23:44

9 at night which is basically a random number I picked just to ensure it doesn't come on.

Switches to that at 8pm.

Kite22 · 13/01/2022 23:48

Ours only comes on if it drops below 7 degrees at night.
I mean, everyone is under their duvets - it would be far too hot with heating on not to say expensive.

But then ours only comes on for much of the day if it drops below 16.

19 is for when we sit down in the evening.

Woffle · 13/01/2022 23:50

20

AlwaysLatte · 13/01/2022 23:51

We turn it off but then we're up late and early between us so it's not off for many hours only between about 12-6

RealHousewifeOfEastLondon · 13/01/2022 23:53

Off at night here too! On at 6 am in time for when people are up and showered.

Redglitter · 13/01/2022 23:55

Heating is off at night & bedroom window open

PattyPan · 13/01/2022 23:57

@olddognknewtricks when are you feeling the cold - is it when you’re in bed or in the evening before bed?

You need to make sure baby’s room isn’t too hot - Lullaby Trust recommends 16-20 with lightweight bedding.
