Our thermostat is set at 18.5C 24/7. It’s interesting to read all the views here. I think if it wasn’t for the kids and my worry they kick their covers off I would have it bit lower at night. Imagine the saving!
If they wake up, having kicked their quilt off, they then pull the quilt back on and sleep again.
Oh wow, can’t believe how cold some of your houses are. I have mine at 21.5 during the night and defo can’t do lower as I keep trying then realising why I can’t do it - it’s too bloody cold!
Why not get thicker quilts, or a blanket to put on top of the quilt ? I mean, most people would find that temperature stuffy and overwhelming when in bed.
Am I being thick here ?
Do people leave their heating on all day ..but it clicks on at a certain temperature ?
I still don't understand why?
Yes, most relatively modern boilers allow you to set different temperatures for different times of day. So if there is a sudden cold snap then the heating will come on in the afternoon rather than waiting until evening say. Or at night if it drops below about 5 - 7 degrees and there is a risk of pipes freezing as well as people feeling cold. Normally, under your quilt you don't need heating on (say between 11pm and 3/4 hour before your alarm goes off, but if it dropped to freezing, it is nice to just slightly take the chill off. As pp says, it isn't costing anything normally, because it isn't actually "on" (as in warming up the radiators) unless it needs to be. So - for another example - when you get to Easter and weather can be really mixed, the heating will come on only one the days when it is cold, but not on the warmer days, because it only kicks in if it drops to below the temperature that you set it for.
