Just come downstairs to make a cuppa as baby DD has only just gone to sleep and it's so cold. Heating is set to 18 at night, and it's not come ok but it's soo chilly. We have a modern house but loads of windows 🥶

We don’t have heating on at night. It’s on for an hour between 6:30 and 7:30am and then again between 5-6:30pm. We don’t have it on in the evening.

dinahsdishes · 14/01/2022 08:18

Off at night but it hasn't dropped below 17 yet. It's set at 5 in case of freezing pipes.

18 in the day

Ancientdreams · 14/01/2022 08:19

I hate the heating on at night. I stayed with someone once who had the heating on all night so they could keep ‘toasty warm.’ I hated it.

7-9 am and 4-9 pm, thermostat on 20° but we have an elderly relative who lives with us and feels the cold. If it was just us, 7-8 am and 6-8 pm and 18° unless it's very cold when the heating would be on a couple of hours longer in the evening. Hate heating in the bedroom and always have window open.

We haven't really had a period of proper low temperatures this winter yet - the odd overnight of -3°, so the heating's been on less than usual.

NashvilleQueen · 14/01/2022 08:34

If you mean overnight (so when we are in bed) then I never have it on. I had two winter babies and for the first week tried to keep it on for night feeds in a very cold draughty old house. I can still remember the suffocating heat of it 15 years on.

I don't like houses to be very hot at all to be honest. Snuggly sofa lankets are a good alternative.

NashvilleQueen · 14/01/2022 08:35

I have it set for 5 degrees overnight just to make sure it never clicks on

Trinacham · 14/01/2022 08:38

We don't. It comes on at about 6am. Our home would get far too warm with heating in the night.

AutumnAlmanack · 14/01/2022 09:36

Never have the heating on at night. If it is really freezing, we might raise the thermostat a bit so that it does come on to take the worst of the chill off. Have a 4.5 tog duvet all year round and the window open except on the very worst cold nights! I have to have fresh air!

BarbaraofSeville · 14/01/2022 09:41

Are the people who find the house gets too cold at night able to do anything about their insulation?

We live in a fairly standard 1950s semi detached and we had cavity wall insulation done a few years ago and probably due to this, the temperature simply doesn't drop that much overnight.

BarbaraofSeville · 14/01/2022 09:41

That's without the heating on, except when well below zero outside that is.

SprayedWithDettol · 14/01/2022 09:44

Heating off and window open - whatever the weather. 4.5 tog duvet, though DH has a lovely white Spanish throw over him as well in bed.
Heating comes on about 5 and up at 6.

10 overnight. So it never comes on. It only really gets down to 15 at night.

RobinPenguins · 14/01/2022 09:50

14 at night, I don’t think it’s ever come on - we’ve got double glazing and decent insulation. I can’t bear being too warm in bed.

It’s set at 18 in the morning and evening, off the rest of the time but I might click it on for a bit in the afternoon if it feels particularly chilly.

Oldraver · 14/01/2022 09:55

Anywhere between 12-16 at night though the boiler never kicks in ( well once when we had freezing temps at night)

Motnight · 14/01/2022 10:03

18.5 at night, it rarely comes on

Around 19.5 or 20 during the day. I wouldn't mind it colder but husband hates the cold and really suffers from it (several health issues).

SnowDropMania · 14/01/2022 10:06

About 7 from 11pm-7am, but it usually only goes down to about 17 in the bedrooms overnight due to retaining heat from the day before.

coogee · 14/01/2022 10:14

It’s off. Although, by default the boiler would kick in if the temperature dropped below 7 degrees.

countrygirl99 · 14/01/2022 10:19

7 at night. I can't sleep if it's too warm. But I'm old and we didn't have central heating at all until I was about 12 so grew up with a cold bedroom.

PinkSyCo · 14/01/2022 10:24

Heating is switched off at night. 18 is the temperature I have in the daytime!

LinuxPenguinPCnerd · 14/01/2022 22:09

Thermostat at 14 degrees. House rarely drops to that though.

Rupertgrintismyguiltypleasure · 14/01/2022 22:24

Not on at night, the times we’ve left it on the whole house has woken up with sore throats.

MrsDThomas · 14/01/2022 22:26

One temperature at night. Off.

Cant afford to gave it on at night, and then certainly wouldn’t want it on.

Yummiliscious · 14/01/2022 22:27

Our thermostat is set at 18.5C 24/7. It’s interesting to read all the views here. I think if it wasn’t for the kids and my worry they kick their covers off I would have it bit lower at night. Imagine the saving!

MidnightMeltdown · 14/01/2022 22:30

People have the heating on at night?!! I can't bare being in a hot room at night. Mine is switched off.

toldgoodDog · 14/01/2022 22:31

@Sparklingbrook

Off at night and window open all year round.
Same here. Plus heating on for one hour in the morning, log burner lit in the evening or afternoon if it's a special occasion. I can't bear it being hot 🔥
