Just come downstairs to make a cuppa as baby DD has only just gone to sleep and it's so cold. Heating is set to 18 at night, and it's not come ok but it's soo chilly. We have a modern house but loads of windows 🥶

Off at night and window open

YanTanTetheraPetheraPimp · 14/01/2022 00:52

I don’t think we’ve ever had heating on at night 😊
I really dislike warm bedrooms.

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 14/01/2022 00:52

off with the bedroom window open a little.

Off. Well, it would come on if it ever dropped below 5c as it has that set on it!
Seems to be fairly well insulated as it's cool inside in summer and warm in winter

80sMum · 14/01/2022 01:10

I've never had the heating on overnight.
However, when DS was a baby I kept an electric heater on in his room during the winter. The rest of the house was freezing - sometimes literally. I remember one winter when I had to pour a couple of kettles of boiling water into the loo in the morning to melt the ice in it before we could use it! .

cabbageking · 14/01/2022 01:19

Kicks in if it drops below 15 which it rarely does.

Floralnomad · 14/01/2022 01:32

Ours kicks in below 16 , it very rarely comes on - hasn’t done so at all so far this winter , the house is well insulated , the heating is kept at 20/21 all day and we are SE .

madisonbridges · 14/01/2022 01:34

A leccy blanket at 2p per hour, window open, no heating.

BaggaTDoubleTroubleDoubleG · 14/01/2022 01:39

I prefer the heating off and that’s what we would usually do. More recently, with our elderly dog who would get chilly and now a baby, we set the thermostat to 18 and the boiler on low so it doesn’t blast out heat. It has to be pretty chilly for the house to drop below that - close to zero or below outside.

ofwarren · 14/01/2022 01:39

We are in a new build with a thermostat and we turned off the thermostat! I cannot stand the heating on at night.
New builds are generally well insulated so we hardly use the heating in the day either. It doesn't really get that cold, unless the temperature outside is very low.

Chloemol · 14/01/2022 01:53

Off at night, comes on at about 6am if it’s dropped below 17

CharSiu · 14/01/2022 01:58

None it has a frost stat, unsure if temp but will probably be 10 degrees. In 20 years of living here it’s kicked in once when it was close to minus 18 outside.

ForTheLoversOutThere · 14/01/2022 02:09

Off overnight

Never had it on over night and dont know anyone that does have it on overnight

How weird

Wafflesnsniffles · 14/01/2022 02:44

No heating on at night. Actually we usually only have ours on for one maybe two hours a day. If the thermostat says anything above 16c Im happy. Jumpers, vests, extra socks first. Heating on if thats not enough.

bizzey · 14/01/2022 02:52

So confused about these heating threads .
I don't have a thermostat thing or anything.
I just click the button to put heating on for an hour .
Some days I might click it twice !
Other days ,i think ohh I had better put it on because it is not good for the bricks and mortar of the building .
Unless there was a risk of pipes freezing my herring would not be on after the last bath /shower ..and that is a push .
Am I doing something wrong ?
Genuine interest question .

bizzey · 14/01/2022 02:55

I can click my heating on and off ..so maybe heating and water for 1/2 hour in bits .

BarbaraofSeville · 14/01/2022 03:14

18 isn't really 'so chilly' unless you're sat around for ages in thin clothing.

Ours is on 16 at night but it almost never drops that low after the heating goes off the evening setting at 10 pm.

We have a Hive thermostat that says it's currently 17.3 C and I'm perfectly comfortable in a hoodie, lounge pants and slippers and a cat on my lap.

The heating only ever clicks on at night if it's well below zero.

Kelly7889 · 14/01/2022 03:20

No heating at all. Can't afford it at present. It is 10 degrees in here.

ghostmouse · 14/01/2022 03:23

I don’t. I hate sleeping in a warm house, I get a headache and I wake up feeling I’ll. the only time I’ll leave it on is if it’s freezing or below zero and then it’s on at around 16

1forAll74 · 14/01/2022 03:25

No heating all night for me, My house is 150 years old, and draughty with crap windows with no double glazing etc,, I have a couple of little fan heaters in my bedroom if I needed to get up in the night for anything when it's really very cold.

Keladrythesaviour · 14/01/2022 03:54

9 - so essentially off. Around 18 during the day, though 20if DH is WFH and gets his mitts on it. House often drops to 14/15 at night. I couldn't bear sleeping in a warm house or with the noise of the boiler running.

bizzey · 14/01/2022 04:02

On the basis of this thread ..I have just ordered my first room thermometer !
I am so curious at what my house is !

bizzey · 14/01/2022 04:04

I reckon it is very menopausal comparable !

Imhereforthefood · 14/01/2022 04:15

Off at night, although if I wake up with baby ds and it’s really chilly I’ll just pop it on high enough to wake the boiler up. Can do it from my phone so nice and easy.
It’s too expensive to have it on too regularly.

CirreltheSquirrel · 14/01/2022 04:31

7 so it basically never comes on overnight. Temperature currently showing as 15.1, but it wi come on for when I get up.
