The Downing Street Party

Sorry if there's another thread, couldn't see one.

ITV have a video scoop of Allegra Stratton laughing and joking about the party that never happened, but definitely did follow Covid rules despite not happening, filmed a few days after the party date.

How many more times does the PM and half the cabinet need to tell barefaced lies before we can get rid of this bunch of absolute arseholes?

It was appalling her laughing but she's been scapegoated if this is it.

She wasn't even at the party, what about those that were?

Roussette · 08/12/2021 16:08

What about Jacob Rees Mogg who only this week at a do, was laughing about how this was not going to be reported to the Police in a year's time and how 2 metres is now 2 inches so we're not social distancing. He was taking the piss out of everyone who has suffered.

zafferana · 08/12/2021 16:08

I don't actually care if a group of people who worked together every single day throughout the pandemic had a drink together before Christmas, even last Christmas. And if it was a group of nurses or council workers or supermarket shelf-stackers or 999 call receivers I really wouldn't mind, even though we were all told not to see our families. If those people were together all day every day anyway, breathing the same air, what's the difference if they had a drink a mince pie together?

What pisses me off is the lying, the covering up and the hypocrisy, from the people who were making the bloody rules and getting the fucking police to enforce them, with fines if necessary. Matt fucking Hancock with his 'It's not enough to obey the letter of the law, you have to obey the SPIRIT of the law'. Unless it's them of course, and then the law doesn't apply.

Stratton may have resigned, but typically JRM, who echoed exactly what she did .. has not!
and what of Gavin Williamsons party??
Its very quiet on the latter two, surprise surprise..

bitboredofitall · 08/12/2021 16:10

I have to admit I don't feel sorry for Allegra but I do think she shouldn't be the only one to face this. Everyone knows the party happened but they're still sticking to their lie. It's insulting to all of us that they think we'll just accept this resignation and some tears because she got found out. She's upset she got caught and lost her £125,000 job, not for the rest.

SpookyScarySkeletons · 08/12/2021 16:25

@Cyrilgoggin

I've just watched her statement and I did feel very sorry for her. She seemed genuinely upset (and she should be). If those people who were at the alleged party have any decency they should now own up to it and face the consequences, not let her be a fall guy. Then we can move on.
I don't feel sorry for her at all.

She's upset because she got caught. She isn't sorry for what she has done.

Roussette · 08/12/2021 16:36

But what has she done? I'm not sticking up for her, I'm just curious. A practice run through of a press conference was recorded and leaked.
She was caught laughing about the alleged party. (That is appalling)

However, she didn't go to the party and she wasn't part of it. Whilst she made a collosal error of judgement in mucking about during a rehearsal because it just ain't funny.. let's look at those who arranged the party, went to it, had a good old non distanced jolly... and all those Ministers this week who have lied for their scabby Boss.

It’s not so much what she’s done as whether she could possibly continue in that job given what’s happened.

She said she didn't go to the party (despite there apparently being no party) but you don't actually know that to be the truth. She certainly doesn't say anything like that here.

She was always going to go once that video was out. I suspect Ed Oldfield will stay though and nothing will happen to Johnson as per usual.

the80sweregreat · 08/12/2021 16:47

Allegra is just upset she has lost her job a few weeks before Christmas!
.. I'm sure Boris will get her another one soon enough though, these people always bounce back , the devil takes care of his own !

Roussette · 08/12/2021 16:48

@PurpleDaisies
Yes of course. I was just really responding to someone saying 'she isn't sorry for what she's done'.
I'm glad she's gone, her position was untenable but there are others whose positions are worse. I just hope this isn't it.

I think that footage of her just typified the disdain some of the party hold the public in... it sums it up for me. But she's the tip of the iceberg.
I want JRM to go for starters after his speech this week to the rightwing think tank. That was far far worse.

the80sweregreat · 08/12/2021 16:50

I want to know , who leaked it all though ?
Who sat on this for nearly a year ?

Me too and do they have footage of the party too and are just waiting for the right moment!!
the80sweregreat · 08/12/2021 17:06

Footage of the party ! .. oh yes, by tomorrow??
..

MotherofPearl · 08/12/2021 17:06

It would be just too delicious if footage of the actual party emerged. C'mon DC, don't keep us waiting!

KittenCatcher · 08/12/2021 17:07

I thought she and DC were friends, not that it means anything, it was obviously someone in the room.

the80sweregreat · 08/12/2021 17:14

Sales of cheese and wine will be through the roof this year ..

Forion · 08/12/2021 17:53

I want to see footage of Rees Mogg snorting cocaine off someone's chest 😆

TSSDNCOP · 08/12/2021 18:43

Bellafrenum
Why is it only being leaked now, a year later?
I thought this.

Someone, and by that I'm looking at you DC, has been waiting in the long grass for Plan B.

It's now a perfect shitstorm isn't it. The Govt have, if it were even possible, lost any meaningful support from the public in following what restrictions they are planning to deal with Omicron.

It isn't even the fact there was a party, in whatever disguise it will be spun in, because it's surely not any surprise we've all been had on that score.

It's the layers of lies and cover up. Allegra Stratton is the idiot scapegoat for a lot of senior officials that dismiss the public as compliant fools, knowing full well they're snug as bugs for another 4 years.
