The Downing Street Party

Sorry if there's another thread, couldn't see one.

ITV have a video scoop of Allegra Stratton laughing and joking about the party that never happened, but definitely did follow Covid rules despite not happening, filmed a few days after the party date.

How many more times does the PM and half the cabinet need to tell barefaced lies before we can get rid of this bunch of absolute arseholes?

What has really got to me in all of this, is that in the last couple of days the government gaslighted so well that even I (a great Tory cynic) began to question whether the journalists had made a mistake somewhere with this party.

I really feel strongly that all of this is bad for our national mental health, when we are already under this prolonged stress of the pandemic.

Poetrypatty · 07/12/2021 21:58

As for Labour, Keir Starmer being perhaps a bit boring and straight is probably what people are going to actually want. At least he seems trustworthy and sensible.

DreamingofTimbuktu · 07/12/2021 21:59

Sadly a huge percentage of this country are only motivated by minimising their tax and and will vote for Tory no matter what they do.

The long term damage he is doing to this country and our trust in politics is going to last for decades. He is a cunt. A fucking nasty narcissistic cunt.

Kendodd · 07/12/2021 22:04

I'd like to know wtf the police were doing? Why weren't arrests made?
I've heard the Good Law Project are looking at sueing the Metropolitan Police over their inaction.

TooBigForMyBoots · 07/12/2021 22:04

Why is it only being leaked now, a year later?

Because it is Christmas, a time when people remember last Christmas. The contrast is stark.Xmas Shock The restrictions last year were devastating for many. But Johnson's Conservative circle jerk partied, shagged and are now lying about it.

Only weeks after backtracking on a well dodgy bit legistlation.Xmas ShockXmas ShockXmas Shock So that's whose in charge folks and with his majority, BJ can do whatever he wants for the next few years.

It's a Elected Dictatorship. And this current lot are a bunch of morally bankrupt cunts who don't give a fuck about you.Xmas Angry

Oh this is good. Look at the date on this tweet, and the reply from Gov Twitter.

I'm so upset by this. It's brought back the raw grief of losing my family member. I'm in London and I've always thought of Johnson as a ridiculous buffoon since his days as mayor. Now I'm furious, disgusted and feel utterly helpless because I want to stand in front of him and scream and I can't.

Babybooboodedoo · 07/12/2021 22:21

@redpheasant wow, what a find!

MamDancer · 07/12/2021 22:21

Oh game set and fucking match to the general public, redpheasant. Gov hoisted by its own self serving bastard petard.

BoredZelda · 07/12/2021 22:23

Why is it only being leaked now, a year later?

This question isn’t being asked enough. Someone sat on this for a long time.

Babybooboodedoo · 07/12/2021 22:23

@Cyrilgoggin Flowers I completely understand why you feel this way. So many feel so frustrated now, I really hope the tide will turn.

TheDogsMother · 07/12/2021 22:23

Such contempt for the public. It's absolutely one rule for them and another us.

MotherofPearl · 07/12/2021 22:23

That tweet is amazing.

If by someone you mean DC, you are correct. A geek scorned and all that.🤷‍♀️
Janedamaz · 07/12/2021 22:38

This is fucking outrageous. My heart breaks for everyone who had to spend Christmas alone and isolated, and their relatives.
I got married on the 18th, the day of their little party, only my husband and I and two witnesses, none of our families could be there because of the restrictions.

I just can’t believe the utter contempt of them all. Disgusting.

twilightermummy · 07/12/2021 22:43

Not a chance it’s Peston. He’s livid they’re not ‘fessin up.
If I turn out to be wrong then I’ll look to getting the first flight out of here!

Haybo26 · 07/12/2021 22:44

I'm livid.

colouringindoors · 07/12/2021 22:46

I really, really hate this government 😡😡😡

wonderstuff · 07/12/2021 22:47

Thing is regardless of whether the guidance was followed, they wrote the guidance, so the fact they wrote in a clause about business meetings being allowed in person so they could hold a ‘business meeting’ that looked a lot like a Christmas party doesn’t make it any better, if anything it’s worse that they sanctioned this nonsense while stopping people seeing dying relatives or caring for disabled relatives in hospital that would go on to die quite probably through lack of care.

If everyone had behaved that way the NHS would have been fucked, they relied on most of us doing the right thing and making huge sacrifices.

There’s a huge list of reasons I’d never vote for them that predate the pandemic, but I do hope enough Tory voters feel as fucked off with them as I do over this and we get some better leadership.

PompomDahlia · 07/12/2021 22:48

Like many others, I had a grandparent spending their last Christmas alone in a care home. It’s despicable. And yet it will be Teflon and slide right off in a few weeks - this lot get away with everything

BoredZelda · 07/12/2021 22:55

Possibly. But given what happened to him, wouldn’t he have benefited from doing this much sooner? What’s he got to gain from doing it now?

redpheasant · 07/12/2021 22:58

I think a PP has it saying it's close enough to Christmas now to have a bigger impact, as (a) last Christmas is very much in people's minds, and (b) there is a feeling there may be more restrictions coming. A big news story about a Christmas party, in the period where everything was unrestricted might not have had the same cut through

I'll bet you an imaginary tenner it was him.

It’ll be Harry Cole and James Forsyth.
