The Downing Street Party

Sorry if there's another thread, couldn't see one.

ITV have a video scoop of Allegra Stratton laughing and joking about the party that never happened, but definitely did follow Covid rules despite not happening, filmed a few days after the party date.

How many more times does the PM and half the cabinet need to tell barefaced lies before we can get rid of this bunch of absolute arseholes?

If it hasn't happened yet, it won't ever.
(and before someone trots it out, yes we all know there isn't really a viable alternative anyway)

SickAndTiredAgain · 07/12/2021 21:12

I really don’t think their replacements would be any better.

A depressing attitude that allows politicians like these to get away with being so incredibly inept. A hopeless feeling of “well who cares who’s in power, they’d all be shit anyway”.

User135644 · 07/12/2021 21:13

Nobody can be surprised, can they? Nobody voted for Boris Johnson and his Tory government for integrity or honesty, given he's always been the opposite.

Not a single one of them could lie straight in bed.

redpheasant · 07/12/2021 21:13

Ah yes, I'd forgotten about the insane amount of money spent on this ridiculous room. This tweet did make me laugh though.

Well that won’t help any restrictions go down well

That laughing while we were all being locked down again is like Cummings again

Kendodd · 07/12/2021 21:14

Tbh, I don't blame the government for the way they behave. I blame the people who voted for them and continue to support them. It was absolutely crystal clear they were a bunch of lying self serving twats before the 2019 election. They knew what they were getting back then and I think that's why they continue to support them now.

Poetrypatty · 07/12/2021 21:14

I disagree and think the tide is turning now. People are sick of it. It will also make them unable to ask people to do another lockdown now or any measures really, if they do try to then there will be chaos.

MarbleQueen · 07/12/2021 21:15

Do remember to trust the science.

But remember the scientists don’t believe their own science.

PestoPlum · 07/12/2021 21:15

@PurpleDaisies

There is no source because of course it never happened

Well obviously. Grin

You know what I mean though-where have you read they were there?

Dominic Cummings has said there were two senior British journalists at the party and those two names are all over Twitter. (It may not be true hence I didn’t use their full names but it really wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest).

I don't think anyone could have predicted this level of lying and incompetence. It's off the scale.

Thatldo · 07/12/2021 21:16

Too many fucking rightwing populist arseholes in this country.how long do we have to endure this shitshowAngry

namechangerino · 07/12/2021 21:17

@Kendodd

Can any conservative voter really defend them as a good prospect to vote for again?

Where's Clavinova?

I think the tide is turning inside the party. It's looking clear that serious Tory backbenchers are getting really fed up of him and his string of constant scandals. I think if there's ever going to be a vote of no confidence then this could trigger it. Perhaps wishful thinking though and obviously that doesn't help with getting the tories out of government.

Amazed nobody's popped up to say 'but Labour' yet.

Me too. I’m surprised nobody has blamed Jeremy Corbyn!

Boris Johnson needs to go-he’s a dangerous bloody embarrassment.

Yes the decent ones are getting tainted by all this and must be angry.

Johnson booted out all the serious Tories back in 2019.

Babybooboodedoo · 07/12/2021 21:21

Allegra Stratton should at least lose her job. She is inept flailing about like that- so unprofessional! Also laughing about breaking the law when you work for the government and holding the public in contempt, is unforgivable.

And that’s just the start. Many more people need to be sacked over this.

Where are the police??

MaryStuart · 07/12/2021 21:21

It would be very bold of Peston to be posting that Twitter post linked upthread, if he was actually there.

AnotherOneWithNoGoodName · 07/12/2021 21:22

@redpheasant I'm a pessimist Smile, but what a Christmas present that could be, if we can dream...

I agree Ken, but what I don't understand is why people support this government? Why did people vote them in? How did they imagine they'd benefit?

I need someone to help me understand how it's possible that there's even one person left in this country who supports this government, let alone millions.

Yes I agree. I think even in 2019 people still thought BJ was a clownish, rakish buffoon who was some kind of breath of fresh air. I really agree that the level of what we're seeing now is something no one could ever have expected.

billycorn · 07/12/2021 21:23

I hope this will finally be the thing that ends Boris’ political career and all the other utterly useless politicians involved. I doubt it though, nothing ever sticks.
