Is there a thread anywhere regarding the ghislaine maxwell trial? I've searched and can't find one anywhere

@Tulipomania I deffo think there’s a shortage of decent, extensive news coverage in the UK on this- I’ve listened live and watched trials on various sites and podcasts etc and sometimes you have entire series devoted to one single case. I’m not studying law but many who are students tune in! I find it fascinating both often strange events and the process of ‘justice’. This trial there is almost nothing in the UK giving a really extensive, in depth coverage. Only short articles with a couple of points- I want hours of info! I find it strange I can’t find anything by UK journalists. If you have any recommendations I’m keen!

@Roussette you’re welcome; it’s not really totally what I was looking for but so far the best I’ve found. He gives some actual info in some half decent detail. Will keep looking! X

Fractured families. Poor. Desperate. Parents that don't care. Parents on the make. Young teens sleeping on the street. Living in trailer parks.

There are some desperate poor families who would not care what their young girls were doing if they made some money somewhere.

MrsMcCluskeysCat · 03/12/2021 21:06

@Porcupineintherough

But what did they say to them? Adults dont usually hang out with 14 year olds for the sparkling repartee or because of shared interests. Where their parents selling them, poor kids? Sad
Sadly I don't think these girls parents gave a jot about where they were, they were being neglected at home which made them extremely vulnerable to someone like JE.
FrenchBoule · 03/12/2021 21:11

@notangelinajolie I’m so sorry to hear about your dad. i absolutely hate these crooks who shaft their workers and are still allowed to keep millions. Sadly Maxwell isn’t the only one

@Roussette I see you already mentioned the podcast “Hunting Ghislane”. I only started listening to that a few weeks ago and haven’t finished yet.

Thanks for the links 🙂

I don’t think JE has commited suicide, wouldn’t be surprised if he was silenced to protect the big sleazy fish.

Not just that but if you have a determined 14 year old who is promised the world. She will find a way, even if it’s not in their best interest.

There was a brilliant program on Rotherham that explained it perfectly. Decent girls from decent families, groomed.

@notangelinajolie

I am interested in this. Not because of Prince Andrew. Because of the Maxwell name. My dad worked for Robert Maxwell and at the age of 60 lost his entire pension. He had to make up a lifetimes pension contributions in 5 years. He did it but it had a massive impact on his health. He spent the years he should have been slowing down and looking forward retirement working his socks off. Unsociable hours, living out of a suitcase in a grotty hotel 300 miles away from his family for 6 days out of 7. In his 60's sat on the floor of a packed train from London to Manchester just to get home to my mum for one night. I blame the Maxwell family (and that includes Ghislaine) for this. My dad died 6 months after the day he retired Sad Bastards the lot of them.
I'm so sorry. That family.

@FrenchBoule

The podcast on the Maxwell family is fascinating in an awful way

WhatDidISayAlan · 03/12/2021 22:19

@notangelinajolie my dad was a newspaper man in Manchester (not for the Mirror Group) but worked Saturday nights in the Mirror print rooms and knew so many men who lost their pensions. He said they were left absolutely broken. I despise that family and I’m so sorry for your dad.

Roussette · 03/12/2021 22:20

There is video footage of JE's Florida property not yet admitted to court.;

It's available here if you want to look

Schoolgirl uniforms and scantily dressed pictures of young girls (warning)

There's a good Netflix documentary with some of the background.

They were often promised jobs - for not particularly well off teens the promise of a fairly privileged job working for a billionaire was obviously seen as a great thing by them and family.

FrenchBoule · 03/12/2021 23:04

@Rousette that’s why I’m hesitant to come back to it. Once I’m back to it it is very interesting but to find the strength to do it that’s another matter

EachandEveryone · 04/12/2021 00:08

I watched that linked video of the house its just creepy. Theres no way that she can escape this.

Roussette · 04/12/2021 07:45

This is fascinating in an horrific way. Here is the 58 page booklet the staff at the Epstein properties, have to adhere to.

Most importantly... ' Remember that you see nothing, hear nothing, say nothing '.

This is what GM's brother said about his sister and JE.

"Mr Maxwell insists his sister is wholly innocent, and that while
she was close to Epstein for a number of years, they lived in
separate homes and their lives “compartmentalised” so that she
was unaware, and certainly not involved, in his predatory sexual
behaviour, in which he abused scores of young women and
teenage girls."

Absolutely laughable. All through this document it talks of Mr. Epstein and Ms. Maxwell. The document is based on them as a couple.

Jackofallsorts · 04/12/2021 08:23

The whole saga is a sordid mess that went on for years in different States and Countries. I'd say the full truth will never surface including who was behind his fortune (Mossad most likely).
However, JE isn't on trial and neither are his powerful mates. There seems to be very contradictory statement from the accusers and I simply don't think JE could have carried out all this without support and acknowledgement from there including his staff.
Whilst I don't doubt he trafficked girls with the intent on sexually abusing them, some of what is reported makes very little logic and sense. I suspect some of the girls are probably criminally liable too as they became more and more involved with him.
It's also clear that money seems to be a motivation for a lot of the claims too (that doesn't make the women liars but it does make a successful prosecution less likely).

I think she will get off or get a minimal sentence. Not because she is innocent but because finding concrete evidence of wrongdoing is near on impossible all these years later. I may be wrong but there seems to be a lot of innuendo and hearsay rather than facts.

Incidentally, the name "Ghislaine" is forever tarnished but I think it's a beautiful name.

Roussette · 04/12/2021 09:04

jackofallsorts I am inclined to agree in part with what you say. And yes, she might well only get a minimal sentence.

I know of a Giselle which I think is a beautiful name. Ghislaine not so now I agree.

Myfanwyprice · 04/12/2021 09:39

Aside from how terrible this all is, the directory in the link shared by Rousette is eye opening at how wasteful they were - toothpaste must be half full, throw open packets away after each stay no matter how much has been used. All lights on every evening. Also the instructions on how to address them.

I appreciate this is pretty insignificant, but I found it interesting.

Roussette · 04/12/2021 10:00

Yes, it's how you would imagine Royalty would be addressed.

Totally wasteful and totally OTT. He lived like a King didn't he? And what an end... in a cell in a NY prison.

NinaDefoe · 04/12/2021 10:03

@Crunchiedelight

Follow houseinhabit on Instagram- she’s an American freelance journalist and is covering the story in her Instagram stories. Definitely some kind of media censorship/ hush up going on.

It’s a huge case which is hardly getting any media coverage.

There is definitely a media blackout of some kind. Not totally but the papers are definitely keeping it low key.
Nandakanda · 04/12/2021 11:03

So far I can only see her getting what - five years as an accomplice? Minus the time she’s already done minus a bit more for good behaviour - she may be free after 18 months? Unless there’s some major bombshell waiting.

With each new revelation you have to ask what did she actually do? The answer so far is not a vast amount, even though she was party to some incredibly seedy behavior.

It’s fairly clear that the elites have avoided some major scrutiny with the death of JE. Bill Clinton was around an awful lot, and even St. Tony Blair - all of whom are keeping an incredibly low profile.

No eye contact - who the fuck do these people think they are?

Auntpodder · 04/12/2021 11:08

There’s a perjury trail waiting for GM when this one is over, I believe…

That is heartbreaking.

Roussette · 04/12/2021 11:14

Nandakanda I think she did a lot. She was the one who went out and recruited these girls, some as young as 14. She went to trailer parks, malls, schools, camps. She offered them money, training, modelling possibilities etc.... she was the friendly face of sex trafficking.

Yes, there is a perjury trial awaiting

EachandEveryone · 04/12/2021 11:34

Completely shallow now but did anyone watch the video and think how crappy the multi million dollar house was? It was so basic looked like a cheap holiday let, I was expecting opulence.

Tulipomania · 04/12/2021 11:52

yes, I got bored about 8 minutes into it & stopped watching. Couldn't believe the kitchen was so small!
