Is there a thread anywhere regarding the ghislaine maxwell trial? I've searched and can't find one anywhere

Now a second juror has said they also disclosed, during deliberations, that they too were sexually abused which helped convince the other jurors to convict.

This is all utterly bizarre.

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 06/01/2022 09:09

They're either extremely stupid or have been bribed.

artquejtion · 06/01/2022 09:26

Now, this guy is saying that jurors nodded off during the trialShock.

I doubt if there is bribery, just someone loving their minute of fame and spouting off without a clue of the impact of his public statements. He is probably already writing a book !

Bloody hell !

PurplePansy05 · 06/01/2022 09:28

If they are that stupid I despair they were selected for such a complex and high profile trial...unless it's a random pool selection system like in the UK, but at least here you're sworn to secrecy, for a very good reason.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 06/01/2022 09:33

@BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation

I wonder if he's been paid to disclose all this. All seems a bit convenient.
Do you mean whether he was paid by the newspaper he chose to give an interview to?

Good question.

3WildOnes · 06/01/2022 09:40

I was wondering if they had been bribed to give these comments so that there could be a retrial.

artquejtion · 06/01/2022 09:46

I think a fee from the newspaper, and not a bribe.

CurzonDax · 06/01/2022 09:56

Grrs - that juror! WTF was he thinking?

I'm so angry - all those witnesses may now have to go through all this again, nd have to relive, yet again, what they have been through.

Stupid, stupid, idiot man.

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 06/01/2022 10:06

I thought they screened jurors to weed out dummies like this. They need a more scientific method I think. Psychometric testing or something. It all seems highly unsatisfactory that this can happen.

PreparationPreparationPrep · 06/01/2022 10:11

I thought they screened jurors to weed out dummies like this 🤣🤣

But I agree you would think after hearing the harrowing statements they would be a bit more guarded. They must also have known GM will appeal the verdict anyway so it is really irresponsible

longwayoff · 06/01/2022 10:26

Intelligence is not necessarily a requirement for jurors, they are representative of the population at large.

PurplePansy05 · 06/01/2022 11:24

Well, if they're that thick, I'm not sure they have the capacity in the first place.

Arf!
StarShapedWindow · 06/01/2022 13:51

This is all so odd. One of the questions which was a decider in whether or not the jurors were selected covered historical sexual abuse. I don’t believe this juror is genuine. It all seems very convenient - she gets found guilty, it’s all overturned and then she gets away with it. I don’t believe in conspiracy theory’s but this seems so very odd.

Do you think someone pretended to be a juror to give interviews?

Or that he was planted as a juror, in which case why did he sway to jury to a guilty verdict with his sexual trauma experience? It doesn't make sense.

StarShapedWindow · 06/01/2022 14:18

I think he was possibly bribed to ruin the trial. If he did sway the jury why did he bother to do that if he was going to tell all the papers about it? It’s all extremely odd.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 06/01/2022 14:20

If he did sway the jury why did he bother to do that if he was going to tell all the papers about it? Well exactly. If he wanted her to get away with it then he just could have kept quiet.

Maybe he just wanted his name in the papers and didn't think it all through.

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 06/01/2022 14:45

Perhaps it's a double bluff. Get her convicted then force a re trial. Perhaps she regrets not testifying and they needed an excuse to rule a mis trial so she gets a second chance.

It's all very strange and there's a rabbit away somewhere. This situation is being engineered.

You are tying yourself in knots here.

Why not accept that he simply talked to the papers because he sat on a high profile trial and he's allowed to do that, according to the law in the US.

Because nobody could be that stupid? He must know he's given them the info they need to appeal for a re trial.

longwayoff · 06/01/2022 17:15

Of course they can be that stupid, thats why it's against the law to discuss your jury service in this country.

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 06/01/2022 17:18

Well it's a daft system they have over there if this is the result. Horrible woman will probably end up getting away with it.

mrsrhodgilbert · 06/01/2022 17:30

I think he was after his 15 minutes of fame and has unwittingly created chaos, I presume he’s no longer speaking out. I wonder if they are allowed to take payment for interviews, that would seem very wrong. It will be interesting to see what he disclosed on his forms, but regardless appears to have used personal experience to influence the jury rather than sticking to the facts. It’s a mess.

This.

It seems like he thought he was some kind of hero for getting the rest of the jury to agree to what he felt was the right decision.

He doesn’t come across as the sharpest tool in the shed. Maybe it would be an idea for jurors to have to pass a basic IQ test?

Motherdare · 06/01/2022 18:09

I’m sure I read earlier that he did not disclose it on his form. He ticked “no” to the key question. They will now need to establish whether he did that deliberately or by accident and, if it was deliberate, was he motivated by a desire to be on the jury at any cost. He is quoted as saying he was excited to be selected as it was a “huge honour”.
