Is there a thread anywhere regarding the ghislaine maxwell trial? I've searched and can't find one anywhere

I saw her name on Twitter. I reported the tweet and won't share the name here for the same reason. But I looked her up and she's an actor from Days of Our Lives. I hadn't heard of her before and it doesn't add anything to the story knowing her name tbh.

Maybe safe, or maybe a glamorous, sophisticated older sister? Someone to show them how to act in this wealthy, glittering society they were being introduced to. Someone who normalised what was happening to them, to tell them this was the "natural" price young women have to pay to move in these circles?

I've also started watching the Netflix programme and have been following the case on Twitter.

GM is clearly guilty. What I'm not sure about is where the line is drawn between being complicit and having been groomed by JE herself. Other girls also procured girls, though obviously not to the same degree as GM, but it is accepted that this was as a result of having been groomed by JE & GM and thereby excused.

So I'm a bit confused as to where my thoughts lie on this. Can anyone help explain the difference? I'm not saying it's the same thing, but it does feel like a grey area, though it probably shouldn't.

Do you mean GM in this context?
If so... I think we have to take into account her age. We are talking young teens here and GM at the time was between 30 and 45 when all this was going on.
And the fact GM was proactive in looking for girls, gaining their confidence, bribing them etc.

If you believe GM was groomed, it was for different purposes.

Maybe the line is drawn because GM was a fully grown adult the entire time, while the girls who procured other girls had been groomed from their mid-teens so didn't have the life experience or maturity to truly realise they were perpetuating abuse? I suppose it's like child soldiers, the brutality of the world they live in just seems normal to them. I think those older teen girls are definitely in the grey area, but GM isn't, she was well into her 30s when this happened and had lived a very cosmopolitan and varied life. Not the same as a 15 year old from a trailer park.

As a previous poster said, it's very interesting that GM, a woman, is on trial, when there are clearly dozens, if not hundreds, of men who raped the girls and will never face charges.

This entire situation sickens me. The defence attorneys will use any shred of 'not a proper victim' rape myths to get GM out of the charges ("They got to fly in a private jet! They got money from a compensation fund, the filthy little gold diggers! There is a picture of her smiling so she can't have been forced!") It's no wonder rape convictions are rarer than rocking horse shit; who'd put volunteer to go up on the stand if they could avoid it?

So agree Flower. The fact some of these girls were just 14 and now brave enough to speak out, but will be besmirched in any way possible by the Defence.

I look at the Maxwell family's website they've had set up since she was arrested. I look because I want to know what they think, how they're defending her etc... but it makes my blood boil.

I can do a link if anyone wants it but warning on blood pressure!

Bound to, given the personalities involved - and that's without other big names who were complicit and are lurking in the background

For that exact reason I can't quite believe they'll convict her, but then I didn't expect the trial to actually happen at all, so who knows?

Because she was Robert Maxwell's daughter. Immorality, excess, deceit - it was second nature to her. Using other people's money to fund a depraved lifestyle- RM dragged all his children into the mire; morally. My stepfather worked for the Mirror Group. He lost his pension, had a breakdown & (mid 50's) never worked again.

Yes, apparently she used to take them clothes shopping, out for lunch, swimming, etc. Like a friendly Aunt. But then she would be asking them if they had a boyfriend, and once she'd gain their trust, she'd get the subject onto sex. They probably felt safe with her. Which makes it all the more abhorrent
Ghislaine Maxwell deliberately groomed vulnerable children so her boyfriend would keep her around. Her Father raised his children yo be morally bankrupt (imo) but she still chose to do what she did: she is revolting in every way. I hope she gets a long sentence.

Yes. Having listened to podcasts about the Maxwell family, it's obvious the whole family are revoltingg.

How the two brothers got off the fraud trial, god alone knows. Awful.
Kevin Maxwell is the biggest bankrupt in history and is barred from being a director after endless companies going bust and owing. Ditto Ian. They're a bunch of crooks.

And Daddy's little girl is hoping that all the money and the best lawyers will get her off.

I do like a conspiracy theory so am well versed in pizzagate and Epstein island.
I’m not a total nut who thinks the Queen is a lizard but it’s interesting to see so called false stories being shown to be true!

What do you all think of Ghislaine’s brothers and sisters request to remove her shackles, provide adequate food and a fresh bar of soap each day? I think she is an awful human and I can’t believe how long they (GM and JE) got away with abusing these poor young girls. I do think the shackles are unnecessary however and was surprised they would need to request food and soap.

I personally think GM must have sexual interest in the young girls herself - I can’t see why else she’d be accused of ‘joining in’ or put up with having to look at pictures of under age girls on the walls.

Yes very! I think she's calculating and delusional but she seems to have a way of convincing others of her delusions so the verdict will be interesting.

There is no way Maxwell was unaware of what was happening. It reminds me very much of Alison Mack (the Smallville actress) and the NXIVM sex cult. I don't get what goes through these woman's minds? (In Mack's case it seems very much like she was in love with the man. Was maxwell just as much in love? Or was she just fond of the money and the lifestyle?) I love my husband to bits, and absolutely adore him. However, if he ever asked me to go and find some young girls for him to abuse and have sex with, I would promptly leave our house and be on the phone to the police before I got to the end of the driveway.

I honestly do not get it.

I doubt that Maxwell will spend more than a few years in jail though, and with the time already served, she'll be out soon. She'll then be able to continue her life of luxury.

Yes. Whilst saying how hard done she is.

Today...

Apparently there were 20,000 images.

I think the Maxwells and their ilk embody entitlement in its most pure form. They genuinely believe they have the right to do as they please, and have zero inclination of even knowledge of how to behave with humility and respect. They are '80s icons, pushy, self-absorbed, obsessed with material gain, and devoid of morality.

Yes, I agree - I wondered how this may affect Virginia Roberts/Giuffre own case that is currently ongoing. However, the argument in her favour (and a stance that I strongly believe) is that she was groomed and exploited young girl. The money she received is irrelevant if she was still manipulated into doing the actions. 'Carolyn' also said that she too was encouraged to bring 'friends' round with her and got paid more money when she did so.

Absolutely disgusting.

I wonder if Virginia Giuffre will be called upon as a witness during this trial?
