Is there a thread anywhere regarding the ghislaine maxwell trial? I've searched and can't find one anywhere

Following. Interested to see how this will play out. I hope the victims will get justice but am not hopeful.

orangepeelsz · 02/12/2021 13:23

I'm not hopeful either, Feel like the lack of coverage on what is a huge story is telling

Chocaholic9 · 02/12/2021 13:26

I've got a horrible feeling she will be released.

orangepeelsz · 02/12/2021 22:34

I can't believe how small the coverage was on News at 10 just now; small 2 minute section. Definitely feels like it's being minimised.

I'm not normally a conspiracy theorist but I wonder if this has anything to do with the fact that Prince Andrew is indicated and how much influence the royal family have over the media?! Has anyone seen the documentary on the BBC recently "the princes and the press" ?

x2boys · 02/12/2021 22:45

Do we know what her defence is ?

Nandakanda · 02/12/2021 22:54

The defence so far are pointing out that the four plaintiffs suddenly became victims when millions became available in compensation - I had no idea about compensation, but the amounts are huge.

Also that the education of “Jane” was funded by JE. I would expect any benefits conferred on the girls will loom large. Their arguments are more coherent than I expected.

I find it odd that the original thread on Epstein (2019ish?) was massive and always trending on MN. Now the trial is finally ongoing and there could be answers, everything seems to be dead. Even on social media like TikTok which is user-generated.

The most obvious occam's razor theory is that covid news is simply more clickbaity so websites will bury trial updates after realising it's not attracting views. And also because nothing of interest is really coming out of the trial at the moment. If she dropped a huge revelation somewhere then that will definitely be all over the headlines but so far the trial seems pretty boring.

The ghislaine story has also been rehashed so often in the media that most people know it already. Most articles just seem to be rewriting information that is already out there so it becomes pretty repetitive to read. Unless there is a massive bombshell, the trial won't supply enough moral outrage that compares with the clickbait power of mandatory vaccinations or another impending lockdown.

.

GrimDamnFanjo · 03/12/2021 00:23

It's interesting.
Is she innocent and going to be scapegoated as Epstein committed suicide?

Or was she fully complicit in his crimes ?

notangelinajolie · 03/12/2021 00:51

I am interested in this. Not because of Prince Andrew. Because of the Maxwell name. My dad worked for Robert Maxwell and at the age of 60 lost his entire pension. He had to make up a lifetimes pension contributions in 5 years. He did it but it had a massive impact on his health. He spent the years he should have been slowing down and looking forward retirement working his socks off. Unsociable hours, living out of a suitcase in a grotty hotel 300 miles away from his family for 6 days out of 7. In his 60's sat on the floor of a packed train from London to Manchester just to get home to my mum for one night.
I blame the Maxwell family (and that includes Ghislaine) for this.

My dad died 6 months after the day he retired Sad
Bastards the lot of them.

guinnessguzzler · 03/12/2021 05:36

@notangelinajolie That's awful.

I have to say I still don't believe Epstein killed himself. I wouldn't count myself as a conspiracy theorist in general but I think he would have known there was a way out of it somehow for him and it is much more likely that someone he might have implicated had him killed.

I do believe Maxwell is guilty but of course should only be held responsible for her own crimes and not Epstein's. The defence trying to use some kind of feminist argument that women have been blamed for men's crap since Adam and Eve made me quite cross. I agree that is wrong but it shouldn't give women a free pass. Was she manipulated by Epstein? Almost certainly; I doubt there was anyone he came into contact with who wasn't. It doesn't mean she has no responsibility in it all. Saying that, I expect there are many, many rich and powerful men absolutely shitting it right now and it would be incredible if she were to just get the truth out there. Having seen what happened to Epstein I doubt she will though.

EachandEveryone · 03/12/2021 05:45

I agree.

EvilPea · 03/12/2021 05:46

I wouldn’t read much into it. There was a lot of big news yesterday in the U.K.

Little Arthur’s death got most of the coverage (as it should have).

Nandakanda · 03/12/2021 08:07

It’s definitely not getting the attention that it should.

JE’s house contained many films of extremely famous people in compromising positions, but I doubt this will even get a mention or will be inadmissible evidence - if it still exists.

I also thought that JE’s autopsy revealed throat injuries consistent with strangulation?

Nandakanda · 03/12/2021 08:14

@notangelinajolie

Agreed.

It seems the disappearance of the Mirror pension funds coincided with a major upswing in the fortunes of JE.

This is outrageous. I am so sorry about your dad. Tragic. Makes me Angry

I really truly hope not.

Anyone good to follow on Twitter?

Yes... this one is OK... twitter.com/TrackerTrial

There is a thread I've been on for ages... it has been following the trial in relation to Andrew

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/the_royal_family/a4358350-Prince-Andrew-thoughts

@notangelinajolie
I am so sorry to hear about your Dad and what he went through. I'm old, I remember the shocking Maxwell fleecing of pension funds and I was outraged back then.

If anyone is interested... this is a great podcast ...'Hunting Ghislaine'. It goes into the family, how Robert the father was, the family dynamic and how it spawned Ghislaine.

Did anyone see the pictures inside the Lolita Express? (JE's private jet). Quite revolting. Every seat turned into a bed. Yuk.

Roussette · 03/12/2021 08:33

Maxwell Trial Tracker
@TrackerTrial
During the trial today Alessi, the house cleaner, said he had to clean up the massage room and saw large dildos. He would put these in a basket filled with pornographic tapes. The house also had photos of Donald Trump, The Pope, and he thinks Fidel Castro.

Bleurghhhhh

x2boys · 03/12/2021 08:38

The huge can of worms this could open .....

I suspect it is because the trial is expected to last six weeks and much of the process is legal dullness. The story will be told in the fullness of time but if you've spent time in criminal courts, you'll know that very much of the time is taken up with legal argument than riveting testimony.

It is amazing to me that she has even been in prison, a true sign of positive change is our world.

Isn't there still a question mark about the origins of Epstein's wealth?

Nandakanda · 03/12/2021 09:21

@SpindlesWinterWhorl

Very much so. Victoria’s Secret also in the running.

SpindlesWinterWhorl · 03/12/2021 09:42

Just another thought. I think a lot of journalists / news publications might be keeping their powder dry for now, as the trial is due to run for a while.

But I don't doubt that the royal family is ... concerned, and whirlygigging via lawyers and courtiers. (Personally I think Andrew's beyond rehabilitation, even if Maxwell gets off. The best he can hope for is faded, jaded obscurity.)
