I would always support my family. Have you any idea about what they went through with their father? They have nothing to gain from this

chocaholic I agree. The whole family are entitled and believe themselves to be above the law. Look how Ian and Kevin got off the fraud charges after their father embezzled all the employees pension funds, £900M whilst they worked for him. Vile family.

Absolutely agree with this. There appears to be a dearth of Maxwell apples which have fallen far from the tree.

The family have already started the appeals process which I suppose is unsurprising but also disheartening.

Yes I read that - I was thinking more of the wider family who may be less blinkered in their views. The siblings have grown up in the same household and had similar parenting so probably know each other's skeletons and can find reasons to justify their behaviour or as PP said are just arrogant enough to think it's acceptable to treat people Like this if they are poor.

You and I feel differently. They are a repulsive family, having a father who stripped hundreds of thousands of elderly people of their pensions. Posters on here have posted about their parents and GPs living in poverty just because of that.
And the two brothers getting off scot free.

Now this.

Sometimes you have to accept some of your family are not worth supporting because of their revolting actions. GM thought of those girls as trash. That's on record.

And yes derxa I know a fair bit about the father and the family dynamic. I've listened to numerous podcasts and read books. Have you?

I don't have sympathy with any of them. I can however understand a gesture of family solidarity. Ghislaine Maxwell will die in prison. Soon or many years hence. You would rather her family abandon her?

They are like the Roys in Succession. “No RPI” - no real people involved - so the women and what was done to them doesn’t matter.

There is no line. iI's over. She's been found guilty. However if that was my sister I'd be there for her.

If someone is found guilty of a crime I see a difference between

family members supporting that person with contact and visits and keeping an eye on the conditions in which she is kept in prison, and

family members making a clear statement that they believe her to be innocent.

I wouldn't put money on her going to spend the rest of her days in prison.

The judge presiding over Ghislaine Maxwell's case ordered the government and defense to propose a sentencing schedule on Jan. 10, a week from today.

I know that the jury have to declare prior sexual abuse, but surely we are at a point where it is hugely unlikely that no one in a group of 12 ‘random’ people will have no personal experience of sexual abuse? Is sexual abuse taken as a blanket term or is it broken down?

The Guardian were reporting it as jurors being asked 'Have you or a friend or family member ever been the victim of sexual harassment, sexual abuse, or sexual assault?' which I would think would exclude almost all women from the jury plus quite a few men.

I can't believe the jury are allowed to talk to the media, seems bizarre.

Barrow, that was my initial thought, of course there is no evidence, but it seems very odd.

I am not sure whether the issue is prior abuse (in a sense he should have been excluded for this reason) or the fact he's saying now that this helped him convince other jurors to believe the victims. He says he doesn't recall the abuse question in the questionnaire all jurors fill but that he would've answered it truthfully - so would this mean that he wouldn't necessarily have to be excluded subject to prior disclosure? I'm not sure how the system works. The whole situation seems fabricated and farcical.

It does seem farcical.
Hopefully as long as everything is above board with his questionnaire then it's all OK.
Otherwise what on earth is going on??
