Is there a thread anywhere regarding the ghislaine maxwell trial? I've searched and can't find one anywhere

OP posts:
Puzzledandpissedoff · 21/12/2021 09:08

I’m not at all sure they’ll return a guilty verdict

As said so many times I'll be astounded if they do, given the high profile names in the background of this ... who's going to risk Ghislaine singing like a canary in the hope of reducing her sentence?

Aphrodite31 · 21/12/2021 09:22

I find it very distasteful and it's clear that very powerful men were taking advantage of these girls even more than her. Of course they should all stand trial for what they've done, if she has to stand trial.

There's no justice that can erase the past for the abused girls. Yes I feel like Virginia possibly loved the cash/attention/probably the sex, too. Apparently she was recruiting girls herself. Who knows what's true.

ThePostWhatIWrote · 21/12/2021 09:24

The age of some of them is reason enough.
And since when was justice about erasing any hurt done?

52andblue · 22/12/2021 12:50

I wonder how long they will take to deliberate, and whether the longer it is the more likely she is to get off. (Guilty as sin imo)

Roussette · 22/12/2021 15:19

I think other way round, I read that the longer they deliberate, the worse it could be for her
But who knows

MrsMcCluskeysChristmasTree · 22/12/2021 15:54

I'm not up to date on what has happened so far today but I know that yesterday the jury asked for 3 pieces of information from the defense, the first 2 suggested they were thinking she wasn't guilty but the 3rd piece suggested they were looking for a way to find her guilty on at least one conviction (can't remember which one).

CampagVelocet · 22/12/2021 15:58

The information I've seen from people attending the trial suggests that it's likely she will be found not guilty on most if not all counts, which is very depressing. The rules are different for the super rich.

Motherdare · 22/12/2021 16:52

I supppse in a very basic way a long deliberation means the evidence wasn’t strong enough to make for a quick decision. If it was an overwhelming case of guilty, they’d have come back by now. They are obviously not sure which means the element of doubt is there. Not proven beyond reasonable doubt is what they have to get to. If not, they can’t find her guilty.

DuncinToffee · 22/12/2021 16:58

KlasfeldReports just asked tis question

"What is taking so long?"

Experiment: Get 12 men and women from various ages, backgrounds and walks of life in a room and find agreement on one thing.

Now, try that with six unfamiliar federal statutes, broken down into 80 pages of instructions, and a mountainous trial record.

This takes time, and very little can be gleaned from that fact one way or another.

Roussette · 22/12/2021 17:02

That's interesting Duncin

I don't hold out much hope for guilty on anything to be honest. And money and her family will protect her if she walks.

There is no getting away from the fact she was the friendly face of procurement of young vulnerable children and teens

PeaceONoeuf · 22/12/2021 17:03

I might be really thick but I thought she procured girls to be exploited by different people but all the charges relate to being used by Epstein not any other men? What were people worried about (if they ever were?)

DuncinToffee · 22/12/2021 17:12

I feel the same sadly
LadyEloise1 · 22/12/2021 18:15

Will the other well known men allegedly involved with underage girls have to face a trial ?

@Theunamedcat

The pilot has already said he took Andrew on the plane didn't he?
I cannot say that I care for the man but that is a long way from doing any thing illegal
Roussette · 23/12/2021 07:28

Travelling on the plane is of course not illegal. It's not that... it's his long association with JE even after he knew he'd been convicted of sex offences, and allegedly sleeping with a young trafficked girl.

No decision before Christmas...
Jury deliberations in the sex-trafficking trial of Ghislaine Maxwell were paused until Monday morning in New York after roughly 16 hours of deliberating. Both the prosecution and defense teams presented their closing arguments on December 20. Maxwell has pleaded not guilty to all charges against her.

artquejtion · 23/12/2021 09:25

I am surprised to now find myself thinking she should not be found guilty.

Also, why would the judge redact some of the testimony the jury asked to review, they had already heard it !

52andblue · 23/12/2021 09:50

The Jury has been sent home for Christmas.
So GM has to spend Xmas in prison.
Good, frankly!

It's also her (60th) birthday on Christmas Day. What a shame!

This all screams of a mistrial to me or very strong grounds for an appeal if she is found guilty
Roussette · 28/12/2021 14:15

The court is back.

This is very moving footage and article.

www.miamiherald.com/news/local/crime/article256879452.html

The victims stand in line for hours on end in freezing cold to try and get in the court room.
GGM's family are ushered in to the front row like Royalty.

Appalling.

Guacamole001 · 28/12/2021 15:22

Will they decide today/this week?

DuncinToffee · 28/12/2021 20:57

Could go on a while longer

edition.cnn.com/2021/12/28/us/ghislaine-maxwell-trial-tuesday/index.html

Judge Alison Nathan told the jury on Monday evening to plan to stay until at least 6 p.m. going forward, an hour later than their usual time of departure. She expressed further concern on Tuesday morning, citing the spread of the Omicron variant in New York City.

DuncinToffee · 28/12/2021 20:59

And some news on the PA case

As the jury still deliberates in the Maxwell case, Prince Andrew tries to stave off Virginia Giuffre's civil lawsuit by arguing that the U.S. court may not have jurisdiction.

The prince is attacking Giuffre's ties to Colorado, claiming she's "actually domiciled in Australia."
