Fucking dogs!

I am so fucking done with dogs

I am sick of being jumped all over by dogs when I'm out running. I always slow to a walk when a dog approaches, I stand still if they seem aggressive. I have lost count of how many dogs that have jumped up on me and have made me muddy, left scratches from their nails on my arms and thighs
or ripped/pulled my clothing. I'm actually very lucky never to have been bitten.
.
I am so fucking fed up of avoiding piles of dog shit - on some of the routes I run or walk I can count up to a dozen piles just left on the path.

I am so fucking fed up of my neighbour's dogs barking. I can't complain as they are the kind of people who will make my life hell but on the regular occasions they are out they bark CONSTANTLY. Sometimes all night long.

I am fed up of having to pass a neighbour's house where they let their dog shit in the front garden and don't clear out for days and days. I walk past daily and it stinks to high heaven.

I am fucking fed up of dogs in cafes, pubs and restaurants. I, like many people are allergic and it leaves me sneezing for hours and hours. One pub we were in you literally had to clamber over 6 dogs to get to the bar.

Now today on here there are loads of people saying they think it's ok to put their dog shit in someone else's bin.

This is even without the terrible dog attacks that happen.

I know this will rile entitled dog owners but seriously has anyone else just fucking had enough?

(Ps my current username came from a thread where a poster's dinner of cottage pie had been given to the dog where everyone piled on to say dogs can't eat onions. I don't have a dog 🤣)

Definitely agree that it’s the owners, not the dogs which are the problem the majority of the time. I can not stand badly behaved dogs anymore than I can stand badly behaved children.
But I still don’t get people not liking dogs. I do appreciate that we are all different but I still just do not get it.
I didn’t always like them, I had a fear of dogs when I was little as I was bitten by one but then my parents got two dogs and I was bowled over by their absolute charm and devotion.
We have had our current dog for 9 years, he helped me out of depression, he is my side kick, I adore him. He is very, very well behaved though, just naturally so, I’ve never trained him but he’s with me mostly all the time and I believe that helps, they are pack animals at the end of the day, they hate being alone (I am a dog Walker and see this every single day).
I do have to say that of all the people I have met who say they don’t like dogs (or animals in general), I just haven’t warmed to them one little bit. Dog people are my people!

I can't get my head around the hate for dogs on this thread. I suspect some of it is for wind up purposes.

@Dontforgetyourbrolly

'I'm with you op . I don't understand why people need to have animals in their houses'

Most dog owners are not like Tiger King you know?

There must be something other people like that you don’t - cats, cycling, children, gin. Why is it so difficult to compute? I don’t like dogs because I find them needy and they would restrict my lifestyle. I don’t like the sound of barking, or a thumping tail, or the snuffling/snoring noises so many of them make. I don’t like the way they smell, or the feel of most of their coats, or that they sniff or lick people.

However I do love cats (although don’t currently have one). But I fully understand that other people don’t like the way cats smell or the way they behave or move, it doesn’t make me think less of them as people because I’m not thick or closed-minded.

I doubt it’s a windup. I do think there are too many dogs and lockdown owners have exacerbated the situation. Too many poorly ‘trained’ dogs. My very good friend is a dog trainer and behaviourist, she’s booked up forever and says she’s never encountered so many ignorant and ill informed dog owners, most of them seem to have not thought about the actual consequences of owning a dog at all and just decided they wanted one as some kind of ‘accessory’ rather than a living, breathing animal with needs. They don’t have time to train them and come to her wanting a quick fix. Fortunately she doesn’t mince her words.

Twoweekcruise · 24/11/2021 09:30

Phlump yep, I think it’s a typical MN wind up someone starts it then all the others follow on. I’ve never actually met anyone in RL with such hatred for dogs, it’s weird tbh!

onlychildhamster · 24/11/2021 09:38

@Twoweekcruise we don't tell the proud owners how much we find their little pooches annoying. I mean, I complimented the neighbor's french bulldog even though it was barely toilet trained, making the communal corridors smell (maybe they didn't take out the trash very often) and crying daily. I asked how the toilet training was going and the owner said lots of walks (well it's not working). Our flat development allows well trained dogs but that permission can technically be retracted any time but of course I wouldn't complain cos that dog is very precious to its owner. Like literally that man didn't have much I. His life other than that dog. Thankfully he was a renter so he moved away.

I have even been to my friend's dog's puppies birthday party cos I wanted to spend time with her and honestly everyone else was cooing so much over the dogs that no one noticed that I wasn't. Her dog nipped me though for no reason.

But if you asked me, yes I do find the fact that dogs are allowed in so many restaurants, cafes and Liberty's (people go for walks with their dogs around Liberty's, does the dog need to choose perfume?!) Annoying. Also wish that dogs would not nip me for no reason or jump up at me in our communal garden (once when I was carrying my hamster in his carrier waiting for a Uber).

Twoweekcruise · 24/11/2021 09:53

The issues are still with the owners not the dogs. That’s why I don’t understand why the hatred shouldn’t go towards the dogs?
If my friend was in front of me with her toddler child screaming and shouting and being a little shit I wouldn’t stand there and tell her what a well behaved little child they were? I also wouldn’t say it about a friends unruly dog?

onlychildhamster · 24/11/2021 10:27

@Twoweekcruise well the puppy can't help not being toilet trained right? And unlike a baby it doesn't wear diapers..also dogs are more of a public pet, if someone's pet rabbit isn't toilet trained, it's not really my problem right. And cats usually bury their waste. I think thats the issue-urbanization and pets who behave like pets not humans with fur.

Mushypeasandchipstogo · 24/11/2021 10:45

YANBU. I don’t mind dogs but I’m totally fed up with several people near me who thought that it would be great to buy dogs during lockdown and now leave them permanently tied up in the back yard. They bark and yelp during the night and when the owners are out, which is most of the day.

Please inform the RSPCA. If you say you can’t see water or shelter (even if you can) and that they’re left outside, they should do a welfare check. It’s sometimes shocks rubbish owners into doing better and hopefully the dogs will get a better life because of it. Poor dogs.
