Breaking news on Sky. David Amess MP has been stabbed ‘multiple times’. Feels like Jo Cox all over again, surely MPs need security around them? Some of the comments they receive on social media are off the scale. All parties as well. I can’t imagine a US Senator wandering around without security?

“The Nasty Party” was coined by Tory Theresa May. That’s fine, yes?

LadyWithLapdog · 18/10/2021 01:02

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enemies_of_the_People_(headline) And do people remember The s Daily Nail calling judges The Enemies of the People? That was pretty fucking inflammatory talk.

Also, sorry if posted already, but was this OK? www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-3660328/Labour-dump-vampire-Jeremy-Corbyn-DAN-HODGES-says.html

Disclaimer I loathed Labour under Corbyn and am glad he went.

Wasn't that in the context of breaking that perception?

She was paraphrasing the name calling from others, and seeking to counter it.

People ask again and again why so many voters choose Conservative. MPs like David Amess are the reason why. Working so hard for their constituents, perhaps not holding some views you’d agree with, but on balance the best choice for your area. I’d vote for an anti-hunting, hard working candidate with a proven track record of doing their best for all constituents, even if their views on abortion were anathema to me. I’d work against the pro-life agenda while supporting all the other things they stood for.
I’d probably wish they stood for another party, but you have to work with what you’re presented with.

antoniawhite · 18/10/2021 13:09

Well that may be true of Amess - it's certainly not true of my local MP who is hardly ever seen in the constituency, but whose majority is very safe. I absolutely understand voting in a good local MP, but am unconvinced that this is the case for a very big number of the Tory MPs.

@JurassickJay

A minute's silence in the House of Commons for Sir David Amess.

Boris Johnson couldn't be bothered to turn up.

Angry Where is he? In this country somewhere and able to get there?

Isn't he leading the commemorations to Sir David starting at 3.30?

This is home office questions.

Brilliant heartfelt speech from Johnson.

SixTwirlingTutus · 18/10/2021 16:33

There are some lovely speeches.

Saucery · 18/10/2021 16:35

Ah yes, all providing very fitting tributes.

How unpleasant of you. He went and laid flowers at the spot where Sir David Amess was murdered and was scheduled to lead commemorations at 3.30. When a man was murdered through animus of MPs, your response is to invent a reason to dislike someone.

What a sad world you must live in to look for reasons to speak out against someone today. The House was united in their grief. Yet you STILL have to attempt (and fail ) to belittle the PM.

Please give it a rest.

Couldn't be bothered? He had a scheduled meeting with the First Ministers of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland and the Deputy First Minister of Northern Ireland, along with Michael Gove and Sajid Javid, to to discuss the United Kingdom’s Covid recovery and preparations for COP26, before going to the Commons to lead tributes to Sir David Amess.
tanguero · 19/10/2021 11:08

One person who didn't turn up was, the member for Ashton-under-Lyne.

Viviennemary · 19/10/2021 12:00

Thats hardly surprising. Parliament would be a better place without people of her ilk as MPs.

AnMPsWife · 23/11/2021 18:26

Just coming back on here to say we were at the funeral today, so sad 😞

Not sure what I’m hoping for just wanted to post.

Still doesn’t feel real, even after all the news stories and the funerals.

Some funny stories about David too, sure he would’ve appreciated the humour as he was such a smiley man.

Somehow feels like after today we’re all meant to go back to normal now and move on. DH and I still very sad and up and down at times.

Thoughts especially with his family now. I know from my personal experience with loss and funeral planning that a lot of people feel a post-funeral ‘dip’.

Sir David Amess RIP 💐💔

IsolaPribby · 23/11/2021 18:28

A lovely post @AnMPsWife Flowers

AnMPsWife · 16/10/2022 18:46

Just wanted to come back on a year later.

DH and I went to a service yesterday to remember David.

Most days we don’t think about it and just live our lives, guess that’s normal?
But yesterday we spent some time remembering and thinking about him.

Also, this morning we went to the church where he was murdered and had a little moment.

Still thinking of his family, I know from experience that anniversaries can be so tough, especially the ‘first’ ones.

This time last year we were still in shock.

RIP David, still missed 💐

AnApparitionQuipped · 16/10/2022 19:00

I hope the service brought comfort to David's loved ones on this difficult anniversary Flowers
