DH was born in 1976. He claims to have not taken a lunchbox in school but used Tupperware. Apparently “no one had lunchboxes”. I was born in 1985 and definitely did have a lunchbox (square plastic with a handle and my little pony”.

So…if you were born in the 70s/early 80s did you have a lunchbox?

@SallyOMalley

I was born in 1970 and had a snoopy lunchbox with a matching flask. Must have been about 9, I reckon. They were definitely a thing!

I had a very snazzy red Postman Pat lunchbox in the early 80s. I was well cool.

IndecentCakes · 14/10/2021 21:58

Born late 70's, mine had Care Bears on.

CottageOnTheHill · 14/10/2021 21:58

Jeezo, you lot were posh having lunch boxes. I went to school with my sarnies wrapped in a mother’s pride bread wrapper with salmon paste on my sandwiches. It was a good day if I had a packet of crisps included. I started school in 1974.

FuckmyHead · 14/10/2021 22:00

Born in the 70’s and yes had a lunchbox at primary, had a flask that fitted in, can’t remember what themes they were, probably had a new one every couple of years.
Don’t remember for secondary so I must have just chucked it in my general school bag 🤷🏼‍♀️

FruityPolos · 14/10/2021 22:02

I started school 1984, my lunchbox was blue with an orange handle and had Fraggles on. My sister had Wuzzles 😁

SunShinesBrightly · 14/10/2021 22:03

Your DH is wrong!
I was born in the ‘70s and all through primary school (‘70s and early ‘80s) I had lunch boxes with a handle and matching flask. 😄
I had this Victoria Plum one. I also had a Holly Hobbie one similar to this (see pics).

I did packed lunches for one term, and I think I had an old ice cream tub.

Hated packed lunches, so school lunches thereafter.

JanglyBeads · 14/10/2021 22:05

Oh my goodness we need more pictures. I started packed lunches as soon as they were allowed (fussy!), which would have been about 1974-5. I had a lovely present from someone of a red flask with a picture of loads of Disney characters on. My sister’s was blue. Plus matching flasks. They were our pride and joy! I think others had similar iirc.

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 14/10/2021 22:05

Born 1977 and I had that Snoopy one in primary school. I LOVED it. Lunchboxes were a huge deal but I also remember kids having old ice cream tubs, bread bags etc.

Sandwich in tin foil, apple and a Tupperware tumbler with a separate lid filled with orange squash.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 14/10/2021 22:06

I think I had this one in infant school!

I am 43 and think I had this lunch box or something v similar!

I was born in the early 1970s and everyone had lunchboxes. Mine was a Star Wars one which set the cat among the pigeons because girls weren’t meant to like Star Wars.

It usually contained a sandwich, a packet of crisps (for morning break), a penguin bar and an apple.

custardbear · 14/10/2021 22:08

Yep, definitely lunch box which I think was snoopy - I'm 1972 also. Mine had a flask too - yes we're THAT posh not!

Devonchills · 14/10/2021 22:08

Born in 1972 and had a snoopy lunchbox, matching flask too.

OneMillionSteps · 14/10/2021 22:08

This thread has reminded me that my friend and I had matching Quaker Oats lunch boxes a bit like this:

Late 1970s had tupperware.

Justfivemoreminutesplease · 14/10/2021 22:10

I had this one, which made me a freak as it was a different design to everyone else. I seem to remember the flask went in the top half and then leaked all over the food in the bottom bit.

I was born in 1975 and this was my lunchbox at primary, not sure how old I was when I had it though

Started primary school around 1975 and the posh kids had an old ice cream tub! the rest of us had a foil wrapped sandwich or if you were really hard up the plastic bag the loaf came in. Was the early 80's people started getting character lunchboxes and those 'roughneck' flask things.

HenriettaVioletta · 14/10/2021 22:11

Smurfs lunchbox with a handle plus a roughneck flask for me. But only after around 1981. It was considered quite snazzy and modern, that combo. Prior I just had a tupperware box and no flask (because a glass flask would have broke).

AlexaShutUp · 14/10/2021 22:11

I was at primary school in the late 70s/early 80s. We all had the square lunchboxes with plastic flasks. I think I had a snoopy one.
