DH was born in 1976. He claims to have not taken a lunchbox in school but used Tupperware. Apparently “no one had lunchboxes”. I was born in 1985 and definitely did have a lunchbox (square plastic with a handle and my little pony”.

So…if you were born in the 70s/early 80s did you have a lunchbox?

This was mine! Was so blooming proud of it! I never used the flask though.

@AChickenCalledDaal Blast from the past! I had the same flask, totally forgot about it.

shatterthosedreams · 14/10/2021 22:35

I do remember that a fairly well-to-do boy in my class had this lunchbox in the style of an executive briefcase. And that one day - caught short on the way home from school - he crapped in it, clipped it securely closed and disposed of the contents at his leisure.

I'm sorry for lowering the tone.

whatswithtodaytoday · 14/10/2021 22:36

Born in 81 and had a Mickey Mouse lunchbox with a picture of him eating an enormous sandwich. I'd love to see it again!

shatterthosedreams · 14/10/2021 22:36

Sorry I forgot to include the fundamentally important pic.

Born 1976, had a similar set up as @Justfivemoreminutesplease a box and a flask. My one was the muppets on it. Loved that lunch box.

I seem to remember that the flask used to periodically fall out of the clips and crush my white bread ham sandwiches.

Born 78 and all had proper lunch boxes in our school

@AChickenCalledDaal

I have found my people! I had this Snoopy lunchbox. It is still at my parents' house and in a couple of weeks time we have the arduous job of clearing out all their old stuff prior to selling the house.

DH is going to be very cross that I want to keep the lunchbox ... and now I will be able to blame Mumsnet!

For the love of god do NOT throw this out.
elp30 · 14/10/2021 22:38

I was born in 1970 (USA) and mine was a metal Snoopy lunchbox with a Thermos. I kept it until 2004 when I lost it in a move 😔

My husband born in 1969 (England) and he said that he had a Tupperware with a Thermos and no handle.

Cheese sandwiches, an apple and on very rare occasions a bag of walkers crisps.

My friend had fish paste sandwiches and a Mars bar every day.
I was so jealous of the Mars bar and so glad I didn’t have paste sandwiches.

I was born in 1971 and I had a snoopy lunchbox, and my little brother had a Peanuts one. They both had matching flasks and were bought from the milkman. This would have been about 1981. My husband is a few years older and took Tupperware. I know this because until she died earlier this year his mum still had his blue plastic Tupperware cup with his name one in that blue plastic tape - dymo gun? That’s some seriously strong adhesive

Born in 74. Someone in the house had a Snoopy box like the picture, mine was yellow with a different design but the same kind of box and matching flask. The 4 girls had them (74-79) but 2 younger DBS had slightly different and less rugged types.

Wbeezer · 14/10/2021 22:39

I had a sortie type of tupperware and a special plastic leak proof bottle that my mum bought in a camping shop containing fresh orange, or a flash of tea or homemade soup. Sturdy homemade bread sandwiches and fruit, veg and a piece of worthy baking or some nuts and raisins. Took ages to eat, how we envied the jam sandwich and penguin biscuit people. I started primary in 1973.

CeibaTree · 14/10/2021 22:39

I had a snoopy one and my brother had an asterix one. This was in the 80s, not 70s.

LindaLooky · 14/10/2021 22:41

Oh @MsFogi I'm imagining you opening your american parcel and finding a little house on the prairie lunchbox! I had a similar "close but no cigar" experience when I begged for an american baseball style jacket, I received a red plasticky huge jacket very different to the one I'd seen Tiffany wearing. My poor parents went to all that trouble I had to wear it but felt like a right prat.

NouvelleVague · 14/10/2021 22:41

I had a Roland Rat lunchbox with a matching flask

Only for rat fans!

I was born in 1980. I remember my first school lunch box being an old ice-cream tub ! Only girl in the class had a proper lunch box with My little Pony and a handle, and I remember asking my Mum for one and her saying they were a waste of money.
When I was about 6 or 7, a relative bought me a proper lunchbox for Christmas and it was one of my favourite presents ! I think at that stage it was still quite a novel thing in my class at school and I felt really proud of it at lunchtimes !

Lahlahlah · 14/10/2021 22:43

*only one girl in my class

Madhairday · 14/10/2021 22:43

@ShroomShroom

Born mid-70s & went to school mid-80s. I had a Tupperware lunch box that was an absolute bastard to get into. Orange bottom with a translucent lid. I think my younger sister might have had the snoopy one. I don't remember anyone in my class having a lunchbox other than the Tupperware one. Others had plastic bags, ice cream tubs and bread wrappers.
I had that exact same one! I hated it and wanted a Snoopy box and flask which I got eventually after much nagging.
