DH was born in 1976. He claims to have not taken a lunchbox in school but used Tupperware. Apparently “no one had lunchboxes”. I was born in 1985 and definitely did have a lunchbox (square plastic with a handle and my little pony”.

So…if you were born in the 70s/early 80s did you have a lunchbox?

I had a free mighty white one - my dad worked for the company. I wanted a normal children's one

Similar age to your DH and the lunch boxes with matching flasks were definitely around.
A lot of children (in hindsight the middle class kids) had this one:fish4junk.co.uk/products/tupperware-traffic-sign-lunch-box-70s-80s

@CraftyGin

I did packed lunches for one term, and I think I had an old ice cream tub.

Hated packed lunches, so school lunches thereafter.

I’ve cream tubs were definitely used! Margarine tubs too. They smelt awful even when washed out.

I also remember Tupperware- always had orange lids!

I was born in 1978 and started on a tupperware box but certainly had a fancy 'suitcase' style lunchbox by around 1986. I had Mr Men and then later, Snoopy and I distinctly remember the point at which my new chunky flask had an innovative 'fliptop lid' that leaked like a bitch

I was born in 1979 and my lunch box was like a mini suitcase with a handle that clipped at the top. It was probably Star Wars or something handed down from my older brother like my bedding and everything else

My DH saves the plastic bags from the bread to put his awful sandwiches in.
He uses them until they disintegrate.
God knows what they must think of him at work.

dashoflime · 14/10/2021 22:18

Born 1980.
Lunch box was a pink plastic box with a picture of Strawberry Shortcake on the front.
And a matching thermos flask.

@Girliefriendlikespuppies

I think I had this one in infant school!
I also had the ET lunchbox! My mum bought it in Woolworths.

Oh and I had the flask with the mug lid that was filled with fruit juice. Used to stink of fermented fruit. The reasons dc only get water in anything reusable to this day. Can still taste and smell it now

BitchIAmFromChicago · 14/10/2021 22:19

I love that mighty white one Grin

Secondary school in mid 70's, everyone had Tupperware boxes or ice cream tubs.
I had the same lunch everyday -
White processed bread & rubbery processed ham sandwich & a mint Viscount biscuit Confused

TheLeadbetterLife · 14/10/2021 22:20

Born in 81, I definitely had a lunchbox with a matching flask. I’m trying to remember the picture - probably My Little Pony, but Rainbow Brite is also possible (I loved that cartoon and had a little figurine of her).

Same. It stank like sweaty oranges didn't it?
FudgeOff · 14/10/2021 22:21

NCLookingForInspiration · 14/10/2021 22:23

I am one of three siblings and we had a cupboard of lunchboxes - including the Snoopy and Victoria Plum ones above. We also had the Muppets, Care Bears and Ninja Turtles.

No packed lunches are a fairly new thing . But a play piece was a thing .🥪.

cupidsabsolutepsyche · 14/10/2021 22:23

Born in 77. My favourite lunchbox was an Asterix and Obelix one but I dropped it one day and the clippy bits broke 😕. It was replaced with My Little Pony, I took the stickers off and coloured it in a horrible green. I totally mourned the Asterix one, I loved it!

Notgotanyidea · 14/10/2021 22:24

Ice cream tub here. Every day was a luncheon meat sandwich and an apple. Early 1980’s

HenriettaVioletta · 14/10/2021 22:24

Lol @SunShinesBrightly 😂 I'm sure he has redeeming qualities

Play piece? What have I missed?!

Packed lunches have been around forever.

Tomnooktoldmeto · 14/10/2021 22:25

Born in 1969 we were not allowed packed lunch in Primary school, I attended 3 and it was hot lunch or home for dinner

At secondary I took sandwiches in clingfilm and in the winter had a Heinz tomato soup rough neck flask that never kept anything more than lukewarm

ShroomShroom · 14/10/2021 22:25

Born mid-70s & went to school mid-80s. I had a Tupperware lunch box that was an absolute bastard to get into. Orange bottom with a translucent lid. I think my younger sister might have had the snoopy one. I don't remember anyone in my class having a lunchbox other than the Tupperware one. Others had plastic bags, ice cream tubs and bread wrappers.
