1970s/80s lunchboxes.

DH was born in 1976. He claims to have not taken a lunchbox in school but used Tupperware. Apparently “no one had lunchboxes”. I was born in 1985 and definitely did have a lunchbox (square plastic with a handle and my little pony”.

So…if you were born in the 70s/early 80s did you have a lunchbox?

Yes! Born 1974. I had a naff free promotional Heinz Tomato Soup lunchbox and flask at the start of the school career. I was over the moon when Father Christmas brought me an 'E.T.' lunchbox and flask in 1982.

1970s/80s lunchboxes.

Tupperware for me, but I was rather envious of my friends My Little Pony boxes with matching flasks!

GellerYeller · 14/10/2021 23:37

Had the orange Tupperware and a roughneck flask in pale blue with Holly Hobbie on. Usually with lukewarm Heinz oxtail in! I'm site I had the bluebird lunchbox later but can't for the life of me recall which characters were on it Blush

snugpea · 14/10/2021 23:38

I was born in the 80's and I had a fireman Sam lunchbox, one of the bluebird ones with matching flask. Sadly can't find a pic.

Me and one other girl at primary school had the same one and sometimes we'd get each other's by mistake. I hated this as she always had horrible sandwich fillings compared to me

@HappyGirl86

I was born in 1985 and I loved all those lunchboxes we had then....with the chunky flask that always leaked over your lunch
Haha yes!! I remember the chunky flask too! My Mum once made me a 'Mr Bobby Milkshake' from a recipe book we had but it was too thick to come out the spout and the dinner lady in the lunch hall was trying to prise it open Grin no idea why i remember that! I think my box had Winnington the Pooh on it
Dasher789 · 14/10/2021 23:47

Winnie

FruityPolos · 14/10/2021 23:47

I have a really clear memory of all the Bluebird lunchboxes lined up neatly on a metal trolley for lunchtime in infant school. Must be much harder to keep them neat in school now with all the weird fabric ones with different sizes.

ArblemarchTFruitbat · 14/10/2021 23:49

Winnington the Pooh

That's an absolutely fabulous name!

Pumpkinstace · 14/10/2021 23:49

Born early 80s, mine had Wuzzles on.

AdoraBell · 14/10/2021 23:55

Born in 68, I had a sandwich wrapped in cling film at the bottom of my bag. That was when I bothered to make a sandwich, most days I didn’t because I tried not to eat due to my abusive father making fun about my weight.

AdoraBell · 14/10/2021 23:56

That was secondary school, I always went home for lunch in primary school.

RhubarbFairy · 15/10/2021 00:02

Born in '82. I had a blue square one with the chunky flask and it had Winnie the Pooh on it.

I clearly carry some resentment about the Winnie the Pooh picture because I remember not being into Winnie the Pooh at all and being so envious of the MLP and Care Bears ones, that now I always make sure my DCs lunchboxes feature things they really like.

I am seeing a return to the use of Tuppaware in schools though.

LoveGrooveDanceParty · 15/10/2021 00:02

Born in 73 and have a faint memory of a green hinged plastic lunchbox with 3 segments - a larger one for a sandwich and 2 smaller ones for fruit / a biscuit.

Definitely also remember Tupperware.

Not in the UK.

HopelessSinking · 15/10/2021 00:31

So envious of all the lovely lunchboxes! I was at primary school in the early 80's and was the only kid who didn't have one. I just used an old plastic box, not even proper tupperware.
I did have one of the funny-smelling flasks with the little spout and cup lid but it was second hand (presumably had been part of a lunchbox set once) and featured characters who I disliked.

I love that now, while I'm far from rich, I can afford to buy my DS a nice lunchbox of his choice. Smile

LadyofMisrule · 15/10/2021 00:37

Born in 68. Tupperware and a thermos here.

SortCode · 15/10/2021 00:40

Yep 70s/80s here too and had a tuppaware withan elastic band around it. Sometimes too a flask with chunky soup. In the summer would freeze a tall plastic beaker with lid filled with kiora orange wrapped in a tea towel in my satchel and it would still be half frozen at lunchtime or refreshing after games.

Carrierpigeon · 15/10/2021 06:26

Ah yes, home for lunch. I loved that. After infants we got jam sandwiches and a KitKat in a Tupperware.

TroysMammy · 15/10/2021 06:33

Born late 60s. I had school lunch or went home for lunch. Packed lunch was only eaten during a class outing and sandwiches were wrapped in foil . Tupperware bought during 1970s parties was used in the kitchen, never for taking outside.

cliffdiver · 15/10/2021 06:37

@lunalongbottom95

This was mine! Was so blooming proud of it! I never used the flask though.
Born in 86.

I also had this one.

The flask leaked.

DinosApple · 15/10/2021 06:45

I had the My Little Pony one posted up thread. Another child of the 80s.

ProfYaffle · 15/10/2021 06:48

Born in 72, very working class area and family. I remember having a tupperware box with moveable dividers which I thought was quite posh. I don't remember anyone having fancy lunchboxes with characters on them. I do remember that my Nan used to save bread wrappers for 'putting Grandad's butties up'.

NellyTimes · 15/10/2021 06:52

Born in 1978, I had a dark blue Flower Fairies one and a Victoria Plum one (not at the same time) although sometimes I think I went home for lunch, I'm not entirely sure why.

Charley50 · 15/10/2021 06:56

I was born in 1970 and loved my lunchbox. Actually can't recall what was the theme now but I loved it. Came with matching little flask too!

rc22 · 15/10/2021 06:57

I was born in 1977 and had a flower fairies lunchbox. I think I had a different one later - possibly Care Bears.

GoodnightGrandma · 15/10/2021 06:58

Yes, it was Tupperware.
The plastic lunchboxes ( mine was the Muppet Show and came with a matching flask) was 80’s.
