@5BlackDoors was it Nazir Afzal? He’s usually a very good speaker on this topic and has spoken about how he wishes he could have done more for women and girls during his tenure.

IntermittentParps · 30/09/2021 15:32

@theemperorhasnoclothes

Mind you, I'm not sure I'm really that keen for CD to be the scapegoat in the police for this (Harriet Harman has called for her resignation) while men who get their dicks out or make jokes on whatsapp about murdered women keep theirs.
I do see your point and principle. But she's the boss, that's her job.
IntermittentParps · 30/09/2021 15:32

I mean it's her job to take the rap.

5BlackDoors · 30/09/2021 15:35

Yes yes yes!!!! Nazir Afzal.

No crap, just truth. It was exceptional.

Thank you.

Ghostsintheshelf · 30/09/2021 15:37

Nazir Afzal is great. He doesn't just talk the talk, like so many "male feminists". He actually does the important stuff.

CaveMum · 30/09/2021 15:39

@5BlackDoors I have my uses Wink He’s well worth a follow on Twitter too.

Redyellowpink · 30/09/2021 15:41

@ghostsintheshelf

Thanks for that book recommendation!

I have been thinking about joining twitter recently (because of the whole cervix thing) so this may do it.

he also said that not all men kill women, but when women are killed it is usually by men.

Seriously, my jaw dropped. Because WE all know that but you hardly ever hear men in the public eye saying it.

Giggorata · 30/09/2021 15:44

I've just emailed my MP, expressing the hope that he will not be indulged when he suddenly remembers that he has always been a woman, changes his name and demand incarceration in a women’s prison.

Which has just reminded me… is some unfortunate woman being forced to share a cell with child murderer Ian “Leanne” Huntley?

SimonaLynn · 30/09/2021 15:44

I have zero faith in Patel in her ability to hold the Met to account.

"First of all, these are questions for the Metropolitan Police and these are questions that have been asked already, I should just be very clear about that.

"In my holding of account of the Metropolitan Police in previous months, as I said from the minute Sarah went missing these were clear points and questions and challenges put to the Metropolitan Police and to the Met Commissioner directly.

Nazir Afzal is an absolute legend. I wish he was PM.

I am switching between red hot rage and crushing despair. When does this stop? How does it stop? The efforts of many women fall on deaf ears.
Men have been asked to stand up for women when hearing rape jokes etc...and whilst most will tell you they do if you were to overhear their conversations I have never heard anyone say 'that's not on' etc.. so men are not playing their part, even the "good ones".
We are not seen as equal. We never have been and I don't see how we ever will whilst misogyny is not tackled at a young age.
I believe porn is a huge contributor to dehumanizing women, and boys/men seeing them as no more than sexual objects there to do whatever is demanded of them.
There is not enough education on this in school, boys are not taught how to treat girls respectfully, girls are not protected by the people paid to protect them.
Boys will be boys is trotted out at every opportunity often by their own mothers. Excusing their disgusting behavior because let's face it no mother wants to believe their son is anything but perfect.
Girls are shown ridiculous fake role models who encourage them to change and mutilate their bodies in every possible way in order to attract male attention, they are encouraged to over sexualize themselves at a very young age and will go along with whatever is asked of them (sending nudes) because they will be ostracized if they don't.
Our children are where we start to change this but in order to change you need a have a majority willing to do so, and in my personal experience we don't have that.

@5BlackDoors these were his comments this morning, probably very similar to what he said on tv.

garlicandsapphires · 30/09/2021 15:53

The thought of Sarah's murderer deciding he is female and ending up in a women's prison is horrible.

Bagelsandbrie · 30/09/2021 15:54

I think schools need to have more in depth discussions about pornography and consent. They are so scared of being told off by parents it’s like sex education (incorporating relationships and morality) has gone the other way in a time when we need it more than ever! And we need it earlier too. Children are accessing these things earlier and earlier and they don’t always have parents at home who they can talk to about the things they are seeing.

Agreed. Have you listened to his Desert Island Discs? It was heartbreaking listening to him talk about holding the body of his 7 year old cousin (who died of dehydration when he was 8) was heartbreaking:

"I looked at her face, I stroked her hair. Lauren, nobody is going to die on my watch again, that's the way I felt and that's the way I've always felt."

Oh yes indeed. It's in some ways a bit sad how excited I am to find a male public figure who not only gets it, but is willing to put his head aboge the parapet.

I am defintiely off to join twitter. Thankyou @CaveMum.

You're welcome. Just be prepared to be angry if you read it!

artquejtion · 30/09/2021 16:06

He reset his phone to factory settings less than an hour before police arrived at his door, was he tipped off they were coming to arrest him?

Pikamoo · 30/09/2021 16:07

Nazir Afzal is amazing.

I do find it a little sad though that I (and I'm sure many others) knew immediately who it must be speaking like that. Shows how few there are.

DH and I were saying this this morning. Plus they have recordings of him calling his vet before he was arrested. That;s not standard, I am sure. It makes me think he was being monitored already.

Absolutely. He was the first person who popped into my head.
MrsRobbieHart · 30/09/2021 16:14

What is the relevance of WC calling his vet?
