Bowie is rubbish live

I vote for Prince

Wineat5isfine · 15/10/2021 20:19

Would have loved to have seen Freddie Mercury live! And George Michael.

Luther vandross was breathtakingly amazing! Not a single note off key.

Mariah Carey - absolutely outstanding!

Ocean colour scene - fantastic!

Soul II Soul / De la soul - brilliant blasts from the past.

R Kelly - absolutely brilliant, but my opinion of him has obviously changed now.

Lots of gigs I want to go to!

weegiemum · 15/10/2021 20:28

Agree that Van Morrison was awful live. Never seen a singer interact with the crowd less.

Love Barenaked Ladies live - never felt a buzz like it and they're all such accomplished musicians it looks effortless.

Other great buzz was seeing U2 in Dublin.

Plus we go most years to the Hebridean Celtic Festival in Stornaway and highlights in lisp de the Proclaimers, Manran, Tidelines, Julie Fowlis, Seth Lakeman.

IpanemaPeaHen · 15/10/2021 20:38

weegiemum I saw Van M in Scotland so it may have been the gig Smile

IpanemaPeaHen · 15/10/2021 20:38

Same gig…

CheesyChipsOnWembleyWay · 15/10/2021 21:47

Prince was jaw droppingly good live.

George Michael also incredible. Wish I'd seen him more than once.

All time favourite is Paul Heaton. Incredible range, when he does Let Love Speak Up Itself it's breathtaking- or any of the old Housemartins standards. Jacqui Abbott I her own right has the voice of an angel.

Phyllis321 · 15/10/2021 22:40

If you watch Ultravox do Vienna at LiveAid, it’s jaw-dropping.

Kljnmw3459 · 15/10/2021 22:41

Beverly knight absolutely

Mrsmophead · 15/10/2021 22:42

Tom Jones although I agree with PP, Pink live is something spectacular.

Cocolapew · 15/10/2021 22:47

Prince without a doubt.
Debbie Harry though her voice has got weaker in the last few years.
Neil Diamond and Lionel Richie never disappoints.
Michelle Shocked.
Mary Black.

apricotparfait · 15/10/2021 22:50

Stevie Wonder was amazing for me

Mrsmophead · 15/10/2021 23:08

@Cocolapew I forgot about Debbie Harry. She was amazing.
I also forgot about Pete Doherty. I saw him once with Babyshambles and while he appeared to be in some state he was absolutely unreal.

mamaduckbone · 15/10/2021 23:16

Pulp definitely
Brandon Flowers (Killers) has amazing stage presence
Axl Rose circa 1991 BlushGrin

Giggorata · 15/10/2021 23:24

Beth Hart
Paul Rodgers
Grace Slick
Matt Bellamy
Robert Plant

Those no longer here:
Aretha Franklin
Freddie Mercury
Joe Cocker
Jack Bruce

alloutofcareunits · 15/10/2021 23:27

I've seen a lot of those already mentioned on this thread but can't believe no one has said Annie Lennox! Saw the Eurythmics in around 1985 and her voice was just incredible

Laughingravy · 16/10/2021 01:04

Robert Plant - simply peerless
Lemmy - pure straight down the line rock n roll
Justin Sullivan - a true English troubadour
Honourable mentions to: Julianne Regan, Ann Wilson, Miley Cyrus, Glen Gregory, Alex Harvey, Nick Drake, Ian Gillan among many others.

echt · 16/10/2021 05:26

Prince
Nick Cave
Marlon Williams

oakleydo · 16/10/2021 08:02

P!nk

Singing upside down on a trapeze

echt · 16/10/2021 09:36

Here is Marlon Williams. I was there:

SamWidges · 16/10/2021 10:43

Luther Vandross. Amazing!

BetsyJameson · 16/10/2021 11:58

George Michael, Prince and Bruce Springsteen, all different but all amazing.

GellerYeller · 16/10/2021 12:19

I'm that nerd that has people in categories.
Those who open their mouth and you just know it's them unmistakeably. Adele, for example. I've seen Don Henley and Streisand and both were unforgettable.
People whose talent or presence raises them above their peers: Dave Grohl, Brandon Flowers, Rick Astley (!). Kim Wilde wiped the floor with all the other acts on an 80s revival gig unexpectedly!
People I wish I'd seen: Stevie Nicks, Daryl Hall, George Michael, Bowie.

PoohTiggerEeyoretoo · 16/10/2021 20:35

I really like Thunderstone (give "Land Of Innocence" a listen). Don't expect anybody to have heard of them though.

Jmaho · 16/10/2021 20:51

My favourites would be George Michael, Stereophonics, Arctic Monkeys and Muse
Worst band I ever saw live were Maroon 5. My friend had a spare ticket and I went along and they were terrible. No atmosphere and lead singer was completely out of tune and just constantly took his top off. Weird to be honest

Ohhelppp · 16/10/2021 21:46

@GellerYeller (love the name!) same. Brandon Flowers, for example would be in the category of incredibly charismatic but can’t sing in tune. I’m a massive killers fan but spent much of the many gigs I’ve been to cringing because he’s so off key.
Adele can be a bit pitchy as well.
Beverley Knight though… perfection. And Hayley Williams.
