No.

Maybe David Bowie at a push.

Also, and this may be a controversial one... Mark from west life. I think his vocal range is just great

Gonnagetgoing · 15/10/2021 15:24

I never liked them when I was younger but got free tickets to see Depeche Mode approx 3 years ago. Dave Gahan is amazing (and surprisingly sexy) live.

Gonnagetgoing · 15/10/2021 15:25

@OhWhyNot

Performance/dance - Michael Jackson

I’ve seen Madonna, Beyoncé, Justin Timberlake Timberlake all similar shows nowhere near as good

Price was excellent much like James Brown but not as good

Voice Luther Vandross his voice was so so beautiful

George Michael was a good but his dancing 😬 he included the crowd which is nice

friends have seen Prince live - said he was amazing and gave them free hot drinks as they were waiting outside in the cold in winter in London.
Gonnagetgoing · 15/10/2021 15:27

@CatsBooksAndCoffee

Al Jarreau George Benson Basia Shakatak The Proclaimers Dexys The Saints ( Chris Bailey)

All knocked my socks off.

DB and I saw George Benson a few years back - incredible singer and guitarist,

Eric Clapton is great live too.

BIoodyStupidJohnson · 15/10/2021 15:27

Best live vocalists I've seen are Beverley Knight, George Michael and Prince.

I'd also throw James Hetfield (Metallica) in there too. No surprises; he's a metal singer and sounds like a metal singer. But he really brings it live.

Malin52 · 15/10/2021 15:45

George Micheal

This is an incredible video of his REHEARSAL of Somebody to Love with Queen for the Freddie Mercury Tribute concert. The power in his voice is something else.

Nice other parts to note:
Brian May saying 'beautiful!' To him during his guitar but
David Bowie and Seal watching in Awe from the wings!

I was just coming on to mention Dave Ghana, absolutely superb live. Has the audience under his spell.
SconesJamthenCream · 15/10/2021 17:41

Dave Gahan - autocorrect!

Siriisatwat · 15/10/2021 17:44

Pink is incredible live.

ShowOfHands · 15/10/2021 17:45

@firsttimedad79

Saw meatloaf live about 15 odd years ago. He was awful and it was painful to watch :(

Saw Passenger 2 weeks ago and he was brilliant!

@firsttimedad79 where did you see Mike? I saw him twice two weeks ago and the Brixton gig in particular was absolutely superb. He's excellent live anyway but for raw emotion and energy, it was the best gig of his I've seen.

Obviously SOH are great live but Imelda May is always note perfect and Barenaked Ladies were incredibly talented, improvised astonishingly and had fab energy.

Proclaimers are good live too but there's no banter. The songs are tight though.

firsttimedad79 · 15/10/2021 17:57

@ShowOfHands the o2 Apollo at Manchester.

Was a damn good gig :)

Mumzoo5070 · 15/10/2021 18:17

Gary Numan. Voice like liquid metal, stunning.

MadisonAvenue · 15/10/2021 18:28

@onemouseplace

Totally agree with George Michael - he was phenomenal vocally when I saw him live. I only went as a bit of a pop nostalgia sort of thing, but was utterly blown away.
Same here. I went to see him on his 25 Live tour. I got a last minute ticket (3rd row!!) and went alone. My husband picked me up afterwards and I didn’t say a word on the 60 minute drive home, I honestly was speechless. I ended up going to another two shows that tour.
Lifeisshortandbittersweet · 15/10/2021 18:29

Stereophonics, Kelly on stage just a wee him an his guitar, what a voice.

Adam Ant is stil as brilliant live as he was years ago, bounds about on stage like he's still 20... Those leather trousers... God knows how he stil gets them on! An he stil looks amazing in them!

Seen them both live many times, still love them

WrapAroundYourDreams · 15/10/2021 18:29

Wish I'd been about in the 70s to see Fleetwood Mac live and see/hear Stevie Nicks singing Rhiannon.

MadisonAvenue · 15/10/2021 18:32

Oh, and perhaps not the best vocally but Billie Joe Armstrong is one hell of a live performer. I’ve seen Green Day loads of times and they never fail.

Phyllis321 · 15/10/2021 18:34

Jim Kerr had a stunningly resonant and powerful voice in his prime. George Michael was faultless. Kristen Hersh has a wonderfully emotive voice. Kate Bush is extraordinary.

RedRiverShore · 15/10/2021 18:38

Leonard Cohen

BlueThursday · 15/10/2021 18:38

I’m gutted never to have seen George Michael live

For me, Jimmy Somerville still to be belting out the same range after nearly 40 years is tremendous

lots33 · 15/10/2021 18:49

Amy McDonald just after her first album was released. Tiny venue (a comedy club)with a very low stage. She arrived with her band and they all set up. No roadie AFAIK. Her voice and stage presence was incredible. We were only about a foot away from her. After the gig she sat at the bar where the audience were and had a pint.

Tom Jones at an outdoor concert in Pontypridd, his home town. He was 65 and sounded out if this world. And it was incredible to hear him sing Green green grass of home, in his hometown, surrounded by green hills, and all of the audience singing along. Shivers down my spine moment.

nancybotwinbloom · 15/10/2021 18:50

Pink was fanfuckingtastic

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 15/10/2021 19:02

The Police, Leeds Poly dining room just before Roxanne went to no 1

Ah, memories of the refectory. You had to get in front of the bridge/balcony though otherwise the sound was terrible.

The gigs I’ve been to that I really did not want to stop have been by Rush, Tori Amos, Crowded House and James.

I also agree with pp about the awesomeness of Sharleen Spiteri. Leonard Cohen was spectacular with the Webb sisters but I did want him to stop as I desperately needed a wee and he’d been on stage for about 4 hours.

I saw Meatloaf in about 2004 and thought he was a bit meh tbh.

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 15/10/2021 19:03

Oh and Peter Gabriel. How could I forget? He’s amazing.

IpanemaPeaHen · 15/10/2021 19:09

Freddie Mercury, Morten Harket and Simon Le Bon were the best I’ve seen live

Van Morrison was the biggest disappointment. Sorry Van Sad and I bought every single album you ever produced.

BikeRunSki · 15/10/2021 19:52

@Rhannion

Kate Bush was fantastic at her Hammersmith gigs in 2014 Del Amitri are also brilliant, clever songs and excellent musicians.
I’ve saw Del Amitri a few times in the 1990s and Justin Currie, their singer a few times about 5-10 years ago. Agree with the clever lyrics, I do like a clever lyric, and yes, great voice. Not Meatloaf, Bowie or Freddie, but not bad al all.
