Oh I see others did mention it. It needs to be more seen though.

Shannith · 18/06/2021 16:51

Sharpe, Mellors, Ned Stark. I just would.

And I quite like him as an actor in meatier roles. Still would.

Mum was a nurse, so has seen more than a few dead people. She says he gives excellent corpse. 👍

God no hes a terrible actor.
You never forget his name because hes always playing Sean Bean.

I actively avoid anything hes in because he always plays the same part.

CallMeNutribullet · 18/06/2021 18:29

He's on his 5th marriage and there have been multiple domestic "incidents" with past wives.

Beetlewing · 18/06/2021 18:57

I don't Think the Sheffield accent is conducive to acting to be honest. I'm from there and I don't think the accent ever sounds convincing

LubaLuca · 18/06/2021 20:14

I've just watched the first episode of Time. He is excellent in it, every physical mannerism is perfect and his timing is so natural and convincing.

I'm really not a Sean Bean fan, but I've found him to be superb in his more recent gritty dramas. I wonder if people think he's a bad actor because he can use that naturalistic style that doesn't look like acting ie he ain't no Laurence Olivier.

DinosaurDiana · 18/06/2021 20:17

If you employ Sean Bean, that’s what you’re going to get. And he’s done very well with it.
And he’s more than happy to take the mickey out of himself, as seen in the Yorkshire Tea ad.

guessmyusername · 18/06/2021 20:39

He is my second cousin (I think!) but I have never met him.

Oblomov21 · 18/06/2021 20:46

I like him in most things he's in.

TheoMeo · 18/06/2021 21:03

He was Mellors in Lady Chatterleys Lover 1993 - v well cast

Nohomemadecandles · 18/06/2021 21:08

I think he's fine as long as he is able to just use his own accent. When he tries to sound a bit less Y it sounds stilted and odd. I liked Time. My husband really didn't.

purdypuma · 18/06/2021 21:17

Finished Time earlier this week ...excellent piece of writing. Jimmy McGovern always delivers excellence imho.

Sean Bean & Stephen Graham both very good actors & both never to stray far from their "natural" accents. If it works for them then so be it.

Fyredraca · 18/06/2021 21:18

He looked great as an airline pilot in that weird film with Jodie Foster

sashh · 19/06/2021 04:53

I remember watching Sharpe and looking at Dh thinking why can't you be Sean Bean !

Perhaps your wedding should have been like this?

Onandoff · 19/06/2021 07:06

I find him mesmerising.

TheQueef · 19/06/2021 08:14

Started watching Time at Dads yesterday, thanks for the heads up on thread.
Sean's good (as is SG) enjoying the story too.

It isn't about acting though Sean Bean makes me want to BREED with him on the most basic level.
Tis some sort of evolutionary call I reckon.

I don't Think the Sheffield accent is conducive to acting to be honest

I think his accent is quite toned down compared to many in Sheffield so it isn’t a ‘strong’ South Yorkshire accent by any means. I don’t really get this sort of opinion anyway, accent has fuck all to do with someone’s acting skills. I’d much prefer people kept their authentic accent and acted well than put on a stupid fake accent and acted appallingly. I love Stephen Graham’s natural accent and thought his fake Welsh accent in White House Farm was awful. He still acted well but the accent was off putting.

I agree, it's is an actor's Yorkshire accent, there is no dialect there just standard English with a Yorkshire tang.

Convincing as what? How people from a particular place actually speak?
sashh · 19/06/2021 09:58

twang not tang

Maggiesfarm · 19/06/2021 22:51

I like his accent. I don't see why a Sheffield accent is any less conducive to acting than any other accent.

Stephens dad is Jamacian did you see him as a Yardie? He didnt get great reviews for his accent. He plays great American gangsters was excellent in Boardwalk Empire as Al Capone. Kelly Macdonalds accent is not good in it.
