Honestly Ive just finished Time what an amazing piece of tv. I love him. My friend has put a downer on it saying he cant act and his accent is the same in everything. He can, cant he?

As some previous posters have said - if you compare his character in Snowpiercer (evil/scary/psychopathic) to his character in Time, yes he can act.

I thought he was fantastic in Time, really showed a sensitive side to the character.

MrsUnderkracker · 18/06/2021 06:17

Your friend is talking bollocks.

MrsUnderkracker · 18/06/2021 06:18

@Tobermorie

Does it matter if he can act? He’s mostly for looking at. He could read the phone book out loud and I’d watch.
😍😆

Sean Bean is Sean Bean each time. Just as Bill NIghy plays Bill Nighy.

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 18/06/2021 06:28

Agree with PP that if he didn’t have a pronounced northern accent, nobody would be calling into question his ability to act.

lotusbell · 18/06/2021 07:01

I like to think he has it written into his contracts that he won't do any other accents. See Patriot Games for example.
Loved Time and yes, that 'priest one' a few years ago.

Peanutbutterandbananatoastie · 18/06/2021 07:07

Do you notice Tamsin Greig doesn’t the same accent in everything? Helena bonham Carter? Nigel Havers?

People with distinctive voices tend to get hired for them. You just noticed Sean bean because he’s northern.

TheQueef · 18/06/2021 07:07

Not yet Puppymonkey it's beeb and I don't have a tele licence but it's on my watch list.
I fell at the first hurdle (Mellors) my ovaries have betrayed me ever since.

sashh · 18/06/2021 07:30

I think he really act when he has a good role like that one or where he played a priest ....can't remember the name of it

I was going to say his best acting is written by Jimmy McGovern who wrote 'time' and 'Broken' - that's the one with the priest in.

He also does a good death scene.

I remember watching Sharpe and looking at Dh thinking why can't you be Sean Bean !

Sean Bean was a last minute replacement, in the books he's a dark haired Londoner and supposed to be played by Paul McGann.

HannaHat · 18/06/2021 07:31

Aww I love Seen Been.

Poorlykitten · 18/06/2021 07:34

He was awful in Snowpiercer. Awful.

sashh · 18/06/2021 07:46

For a different view I'm just going to leave this here

Can Sean Bean act?
HannaHat · 18/06/2021 07:48

Jesus sashh 😂

TheoMeo · 18/06/2021 07:51

I didn't watch Time, just the first prog, as it was too harrowing (prefer cheerier stuff these days) but it wouldn't have been as harrowing if he wasn't acting the part well.

BraveBananaBadge · 18/06/2021 07:59

I mentioned that before, sashh, that performance got a lot of acclaim at the time but wonder how it would be viewed today.

embolass · 18/06/2021 08:05

Only really watched him as the Catholic priest in Broken and he was excellent at portraying that role!

MangosteenSoda · 18/06/2021 08:12

Sean Bean always brings a healthy dose of Sean Bean to every role Grin

He can act well enough, but that’s not really the point of him imo.

He’ll always be Sharpe to me —searches for drool icon—

susiella · 18/06/2021 08:24

No one says bastard like Sean Bean. Shame he's a Blade, though

drpet49 · 18/06/2021 08:30

Wasn’t he arrested for physically assaulting his wife?

MarshaBradyo · 18/06/2021 08:30

I haven’t watched any of his other stuff so I didn’t think if it with Time

I felt pretty blown away by all of it. Really good

VettiyaIruken · 18/06/2021 08:38

No.

When you watch a good actor you forget you're watching the actor. With him, you are watching Sean Bean. In every movie. Sean Bean. Being whatever character.

HeavenHotel · 18/06/2021 08:39

I loved him in Sharpe, until the reports of his violence to women.

He's not a nice person. Just last year he was accused of throwing a glass at his 4th or is it 5th wife.

Now I can't bare to watch him, he turns my stomach.

Vile person.

Wegobshite · 18/06/2021 08:39

@ MadMadMadamMim
I watched Patriot Games with Sean Bean in years ago and was convinced for many years he was Irish because of his accent
I was really surprised to find out years later he wasn’t He was very convincing
My brother used to do a lot of security when he was younger he met him when he was on stage in a few years
He said he was absolutely lovely to everyone
My brother didn’t know who he was at first and wouldn’t let him into a secure actors area .
Everything he then saw my brother He would laugh and ask if he was allowed in or not

QuimKardashian · 18/06/2021 08:41

I think his domestic violence issues put me off him. Just Sayin

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 18/06/2021 08:45

@HuntingoftheSnark OMG-I was there virtually every night! Those were the days you could pay £5 and stand at the back! Completely fell in love with him there. I was around 17 and we all went to the Dirty Duck after. He eventually got us all kicked out for dicking about with and subsequently breaking the yard of ale!
😍Sean Bean
