Honestly Ive just finished Time what an amazing piece of tv. I love him. My friend has put a downer on it saying he cant act and his accent is the same in everything. He can, cant he?

I think he was brilliant in Time, Broken and the drama where he plays a transvestite. I love Sean Bean playing a vulnerable man. He is great in the Yorkshire Tea advert too Smile ! Stephen Graham was also excellent in Time, they both deserve awards for their performances.

BraveBananaBadge · 18/06/2021 08:49

He can act well enough, but that’s not really the point of him imo.

😂

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 18/06/2021 09:30

He's a great actor as long as he's playing a character from Yorkshire!

He says Bastard better than anyone!!

He was absolutely perfect as Mellors in Lady Chatterley, you can still get it on Prime or Netflix, we watched it recently well worth a watch.

He was fabulous in Broken and Time but he was also very good in World on Fire (and managed not to die!!).

MarshaBradyo · 18/06/2021 09:32

They really do

IdblowJonSnow · 18/06/2021 10:12

Loved him in Thrones. Never got over what happened to Ned Stark!

Motnight · 18/06/2021 10:15

He can act. I really enjoy his work.

But alas I think that he is probably a dickhead in real life.

cushioncovers · 18/06/2021 10:22

I think he's a good actor but a dick in RL. 4 wives who all say he wasn't a nice person

Thelikelylass · 18/06/2021 10:22

He was outstanding in 'Time' truly gripping tv for a change. Stephen Graham in that pub scene in 'The Virtues' is one of the greatest scenes I've ever seen in my tv/film viewing years I think he is the finest actor of his generation.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 18/06/2021 10:33

@Effsee

Is that Seanie boy calling me?

Mrsjayy · 18/06/2021 10:34

Oh I had to stop watching virtues it was far to "gritty" and normally I don't mind. I watched Time without scrolling my phone or being distracted it was so good

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 18/06/2021 10:35

DH also calls him Seen Been Grin

Stephen Graham was outstanding in The Virtues. I’ve watched most of his recent output and don’t think I’ve seen him put a poor performance in to anything, even if the script/story/supporting cast isn’t up the the same standard. He’s brilliant.

Ozanj · 18/06/2021 10:42

If Sean Bean had graduated from Eton / Oxbridge and spoke in a cut glass English accent he would probably get the recognition he deserves. He is a fantastic actor. The emotions he portrays, the realism, the complexity is far beyond many, many other actors.

viques · 18/06/2021 10:52

Agree Stephen Graham is amazing, he needs to be in far more roles and greatly revered.

I was thinking re Sean Bean about other actors of the same “always themselves” acting genre and have decided that the worst possible casting would be a line up of Sean Bean, Liam Neeson, Roger Moore (deceased) , Keira Knightley,Anna Friel, Amanda Holden and Gerard Butler. God that would be a dull film.

millytilly34 · 18/06/2021 10:57

He did a posh accent in 'Clarrisa' in 1991. It's a period drama and he played a posh bad guy. X

gillianwalmsley · 18/06/2021 11:01

Can't do accents? What about 006 in Goldeneye: "For England James?" (no, for me...)

BIoodyStupidJohnson · 18/06/2021 11:12

I find Sean Bean quite a subtle actor actually. A lot of it's in the tone of the voice, expressions and posture.

I also think most actors play versions of the same part. The true chameleons Fiona Shaw springs to mind are rarer.

George Clooney is always George Clooney. He's very good at it, but that's about the size of it. Ditto Simon Pegg, Joanna Lumley, Will Smith, Ashley Jensen.

Callywalls · 18/06/2021 11:15

As mentioned by a previous poster he was fantastic in an episode of The Accused. It's available on Amazon Prime. He played an English teacher who was also had alter ego, Tracey, who has a relationship with Stephen Graham's character. It was heartbreaking and both Sean and Stephen were brilliant in it, well worth a watch.

Whyhello · 18/06/2021 11:18

Time was absolutely brilliant, I love Stephen Graham. I don’t think actors need to put on fake accents to be a decent actor, he has a wonderful Yorkshire accent and I think he acts pretty well. It’s funny because my Dad has always mocked him mercilessly but I really don’t mind him at all. Thought he was great in Snowpiercer too.

EscapeTheCastle · 18/06/2021 11:18

Back in the old days I remember making a special effort to watch a Catherine Cookson because he was in it! He was playing a rotter as he often did back then.

These days you never know which way it's going to go. Is he good? Is he bad? I even get nervous watching that Yorkshire Tea advert!

Whyhello · 18/06/2021 11:21

I think Stephen Graham is one of the finest actors of all time. I remember reading that his wife reads the scripts to him because he’s dyslexic and she helps him decide whether he should take a part or not. She clearly has decent taste because he’s yet to be in anything crap.

MoonriseKingdom · 18/06/2021 11:31

He’s had some fantastic roles over the years.
Red riding - menacingly evil and very different to a role like Sharpe
I would also recommend the film ‘Black Death’ from a few years back.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 18/06/2021 11:39

I love the story that Sean Bean was either told to play Ned Stark using his normal accent, or just refused not to use it, and so Robb and Jon (and Theon) all had to as well, although it's not their natural accent and tbh you'd expect a ruling family to sound posher.

PuppyMonkey · 18/06/2021 12:30

TBF the Yorkshire tea advert is a fab performance - it still makes me Grin every time.

Oneearringlost · 18/06/2021 12:40

We are 2 episodes in of "Time". DH and I commented on the beautifully nuanced acting esp of Sean Bean.
It's a feat of scriptwriting and acting. More to do with what isn't said, but implied by amazing ( but possibly, seen by some, as too nuanced, maybe) acting.
It certainly works for us

I love Stephen Graham too.
