Honestly Ive just finished Time what an amazing piece of tv. I love him. My friend has put a downer on it saying he cant act and his accent is the same in everything. He can, cant he?

No he cant act but was absolutely gorgeous back in the day .

He's compelling to watch - really commands the screen

Brilliant in Broken, Time and Game of Thrones (and obviously hot as fuck as Mellors)

LaurieFairyCake · 17/06/2021 22:33

If you've not watched Snowpiercer he is TERRIFYING in that

Mrsjayy · 17/06/2021 22:35

I remember watching Sharpe and looking at Dh thinking why can't you be Sean Bean !

BraveBananaBadge · 17/06/2021 22:36

I do love Sean Bean - team Borimir, obv - although his form for fights with numerous younger wives is a bother. Loved it when he popped up as a grumpy northern bastard in The Martian.

He actually played a transvestite (as they were) in an episode of Jimmy McGovern's The Accused a few years ago, again with Stephen Graham actually, I remember it being very good but wonder if it would get on air these days?!

jakeyboy1 · 17/06/2021 22:37

He is very Sean Bean but watch him in Legends - that's v different!

LubaLuca · 17/06/2021 22:41

I was never a fan of his until I watched 'Broken'. His performance in that was so understated and natural, I was absolutely enthralled by him. I think he's one of the few actors who can appear 'real' on screen, although of course some of his roles haven't demanded that realism and I haven't been hugely impressed by those.

I don't think using his own voice is an indicator that he can't act, perhaps he just can't do accents. Better to not attempt it than cause a distraction with a duff accent.

Slub · 17/06/2021 22:49

Being a Yorkshire Lass myself and enjoyed his company in my old local drinking hole I am somewhat biased but I luffs him 😍

SpacePug · 17/06/2021 22:50

He played the part amazing in Snowpiercer! Only really seen him in GOT before that

EmergencyHydrangea · 17/06/2021 22:52

Yeah, but did he die?

BringMeTea · 17/06/2021 22:55

If you are asking this question you've never seen Broken. He is phenomenal in that. Outstanding.

MorningNinja · 17/06/2021 22:56

Another Stephen Graham fan - he was just amazing.

Sean Bean was also very good...in fact, the whole cast were fantastic.

Mrsjayy · 17/06/2021 23:02

Yeah, but did he die?

He did not !

faithfulbird20 · 17/06/2021 23:04

Fantabulous he is

Maggiesfarm · 17/06/2021 23:22

He is a very good actor, always convincing. I haven't seen 'Time' yet but intend to. About three years ago I saw him in a series where he played a priest. He was so good I think he deserved an award for that.

Holothane · 17/06/2021 23:55

Not his biggest fan but I wanted to see Time anyway, whoever had been In It.

EmergencyHydrangea · 18/06/2021 00:13

@Mrsjayy

Yeah, but did he die?

He did not !

Whaaaaaat!!! I think this is against the law
NCwhatsmynameagain · 18/06/2021 00:16

I think he’s brilliant.

Tobermorie · 18/06/2021 00:16

Does it matter if he can act? He’s mostly for looking at. He could read the phone book out loud and I’d watch.

nomorehiccups · 18/06/2021 00:20

I thought he was brilliant in Time - he portrayed the vulnerability of his character really well. What’s the problem with him having an accent?

Maggiesfarm · 18/06/2021 00:24

Not all actors are good at different voices/accents. I can think of a few who always have the same voice but can portray many different characters and scenarios. Doing different voices is a particular talent and recognised as such during drama school training. Generally, if people are not good at that, it is best not to concentrate on it too much because it will come over as fake.

Sean Bean is fine as he is and extremely versatile in many ways.

AnotherSunrise · 18/06/2021 00:45

I thought he was brilliant in it

faithfulbird20 · 18/06/2021 04:11

Ask her is it because he's northern? Does she feel the same about benedict cumberbatch? So what if his accent is the same in everything...

youshallnotpass9 · 18/06/2021 04:50

I think he is a fantastic actor, if you haven't seen it, Josh Gad's reunited apart Lord of the Rings, is really good and it explains that in Lord of the Rings, when he says the line you cannot just walk into Mordor, that was added in that day, the reason he keeps glancing down, is he only got his lines that day.

However, he has a massive violence streak, especially with women.

Accents, look at Sean Connery, plays a Russian, scottish accent, plays an Irish guy Scottish accent, plays an Egyptian Scottish Accent. Didn't seem to hamper him

HuntingoftheSnark · 18/06/2021 06:10

He was a fantastic Romeo in Stratford in the mid 1980s. I was 16 and captivated, as were the entire English class. So yes, I think he can act but, like Hugh Grant, he's been pigeon holed in later years.
