Actors who play the same role in various programs

I wonder if they get bored playing the same character over and over again.

I mean two I can think of straight off my head is Melissa McCartney and Rebel Wilson

They always seem to play the fat, happy go lucky, funny girl.

If I was an actor I would love to play a mixture of characters. Personally I’d love to play a villain just so I could experience it Grin

Hugh Grant was fabulous playing against type in Florence Foster Jenkins 🤩

Jason Statham. Wooden plank with a gun or fist.
First person I thought of.

Has James Nesbitt ever played a non Northern Irish person?

WeatherwaxOn · 22/05/2021 23:37

@CatServant2020

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned Sean Connery, not only did he play the same character in every role but just played himself in every role 😀
I came on here to say that. He doesn't even do any accents!
Germolenequeen · 22/05/2021 23:39

Sean Connery was soooo over rated IMO

Scarby9 · 22/05/2021 23:40

Maggie Smith is always Maggie Smith. Brilliant and very watchable, but always Maggie Smith.

AdaFuckingShelby · 22/05/2021 23:53

Gina McKee. Fixed face, squinty puzzlement in everything.

midsomermurderess · 23/05/2021 09:11

About James Nesbitt, has he ever played someone not from NI. You could say the same about most English actors, have they ever played a non-English person?

Housewife2010 · 23/05/2021 09:16

@Germolenequeen

John Hurt is always John Hurt
The Elephant Man? The Naked Civil Servant? Ten Rillington Place?
TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 23/05/2021 09:30

Sean Bean actually has a really varied CV. As someone's already mentioned, there's his role as a priest in Broken, and he won an Emmy for his role in Jimmy McGovern's Accused. He was very different again in the film North Country.

TheoMeo · 23/05/2021 09:30

He did start as a milkman....

EvilOnion · 23/05/2021 09:34

@midsomermurderess agreed, i'd rather he was always using his NI accent to play a good role than putting on a shit Scottish accent just because it's different.

I actually like James Nesbitt and think he's done some pretty good work from light-hearted comedy in Cold Feet to dramas like The Missing playing a tormented Father and Blood Lands where he plays the bad guy well despite the shitty ending (we won't include his recent stint on Line of Duty here 🤣)

Mrsjayy · 23/05/2021 09:39

I'm watching the pact on bbc1 and Gina McKee Is in it. And my god so squinty 🙂

Mrsjayy · 23/05/2021 09:44

Never mind it isn't Gina McKee it's another squinty puzzled womanBlush

donquixotedelamancha · 23/05/2021 09:57

Bradley Whitford (Josh in the west wing)
Basically plays harassed white middle
Manager no matter what he is

There was that one show where he played a black senior manager and he wasn't nearly as good.

donquixotedelamancha · 23/05/2021 10:02

John Hurt is always John Hurt

Yeah, Winston Smith in 1984 is exactly the same character as Chancellor Sutter in V for Vendetta.

midsomermurderess · 23/05/2021 12:41

And I've been watching Bill Nighy in the David Hare spy trilogy on Netflix, starting with Page 8. Yes, he sounds, dresses and looks like Bill Nighy but there is a harder edge to him there than you might be used to seeing. He is a talented actor, not all bumbling, foppish mannerisms. Sometimes you only see what you want to see.

AtoZed · 23/05/2021 13:10

@SappysCurry

I thought he was good in Fargo though I get what you mean

I agree! Martin Freeman was good in that. As was Billy Bob Thornton. Really enjoyed that series.

Firenight · 23/05/2021 13:11

Lily James. Doing my head in. She's pretty but so vacant in every role

Eyesofdisarray · 23/05/2021 13:15

Pretty Vacant..... now there's a great song

Mrsjayy · 23/05/2021 13:17

Lilly James is the new Kiera knightly give it a few years somebody will be the new Lilly James.
