I'm in that Xennial micro-generation of analogue childhood and digital adulthood. On my 18th birthday, the internet was there, but it was slow, cranky and you had to seek it out. Social media hit in my mid-20s and it was brilliant as it facilitated keeping in touch at the point that some of those early adult friendships and contacts were begining to fade as lives diverged.

I know I could live without it, but it would make life more manual. On the other hand it's less optional than ever. Things like access to banking are forcing my hand on formal transactions.

I loved the early days of the internet making everything and everyone so accessible, but it's all turned on its head now. You have to remember who communicates on which app and everything is so segregated into its little pigeonholes. It's turned into the opposite of where it was.

As for Brittany herself, I suspect it's littlr more than explouting her as a slave. Forcing her into living as little more than a performing animal will not help her live in a mentally healthy state.

I think I am too. I remember Napster at uni and then using AIM (AOL Instant Messenger) at uni as well.

Also, the London Mayor is a disablist arse who hates London.

I must be about the same age as you Bogroll . Grew up with 3 tv channels, then 4, then 5 by the time I was 18.
Now when I read a review of a programme it sounds great but is inevitably on a subscription channel.
I have notifications off on my phone as I don't want it constantly pinging. I don't want to be contactable at all hours and know I am more relaxed if I stay off the internet. But here I am, when I should be working!

Ive read a few articles like this one where they talk about how to reverse the fear tactics.

fogo ( fear of going out)

IMO its going to take a lot more than this if the Coronavirus board is any indication.

Maybe some people installed it so they could check in at restaurants etc? I too have been confused by threads asking if you will self isolate if you get pinged and wondered why you would have it if you intend to ignore it. But some people don't think things through to their consequences. I have never had it.

@IRanSoFarAway1

Reuters reporting protests in various French cities

www.reuters.com/world/europe/french-police-quell-protest-against-covid-health-passport-rules-2021-07-14/

I'm hoping Reuters is considered an acceptable source to link to.

Good to see a backlash.

I really don't like the undertones of what our government might still get up to. Devolving from legal to infividual organisations actually makes things more messy and complicated.

I need stability. To know that you can just turn up and do something without aggro.

Meanwhile back here they're pushing through white papers on the NHS removing automatic rights to NHS care. Frightening

I am sick of rabid maskies bellyaching about them no longer being law and saying they follow the science when the science doesn’t actually show masks are particularly effective

Especially when reused many times without being washed/kept in the glove box for weeks/constantly touched and cross contaminated 🤢🤢🤢
Mask up for the flu folks.

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9787329/Lethal-mix-Covid-flu-common-cold-virus-winter-push-NHS-breaking-point.html
I fear the nhs perfect storm is coming this winter.

Pissed off and worn out employees
A government that hates the nhs
A nation that has had all non covid care deprioritised resulting in waiting lists so long they are unbelievable
Fucked immune systems thanks to lockdown

So that will lead to an extension of emergency powers and more lockdown

Worldgonecrazy · 15/07/2021 06:23

And could someone point out to the daily Mail that 60k flu deaths is not abnormal.

I guess ‘normal amount of flu deaths’ is not a scary enough headline.

ineedaholidaynow · 15/07/2021 07:36

60,000 is higher than normal though, isn’t it usually around 20,000

Lostinacloud · 15/07/2021 07:37

I continue to be so annoyed that we are still having to listen to these imbecile “experts”. The same “experts” who recommended we all had to be locked down, not see our families, not take our kids to school or go to work, wear pointless masks and basically test and imprison perfectly healthy people now seem surprised that they have caused everybody’s immune system to go on standby mode and so we will now be unready for the entirely normal autumn and winter bugs.
Oh dear, turns out that listening to a group of people mostly made up of behavioural psychologists and one scientist who loves a scary graph wasn’t the best idea.
But even more than that, why didn’t they see it coming and WHY must WE all continue to live under threat of these shitty conditions returning because the government continue not to properly fund the NHS and make it fit for purpose for the ageing population of the country? They’ve had at least 18 months to have been raiding their apparent money tree and bolstering the NHS capacity but instead it looks like it has managed to get even worse. Guy Fawkes is looking like he deserves a spot on the 4th plinth at Trafalgar Square!

Worldgonecrazy · 15/07/2021 08:40

Yes, thank you for the correction.

It seems there was a lot of manipulation and misreporting by both ons and media around 2017/18 too, maybe practice for covid!
