@bloodystupidjohnson

So true. People spout the “masks protect other people not the wearer” then instinctively pull them tighter when near an unmasked or coughing person. All very obvious why those people are actually wearing them.

ISaySteadyOn · 11/07/2021 14:34

I maintain that we're trapped like this until the masks go. They're meant to remind you to continue to be suspicious of yourself and others.

ISaySteadyOn · 11/07/2021 14:35

That said, in the park, not a single mask in sight. Smile

More there were street parties last night. I would have thought they'd be today

@GiveMeNovocain Speaking of vaccines

smallandimperfectlyformed · 11/07/2021 20:02

That's disgraceful behaviour of people abusing staff about the vaccines MercyBooth. I am feeling very anxious about the football as my ex husband works in Central London and is on a night shift, he will have had to walk through the enormous crowd! I called him and he said he was alright but it was a massive load of people in Leicester Square (he's near there). The footage from Wembley was horrific, I hope the man who was filmed having a seizure is alright

MercyBooth · 11/07/2021 20:58

Someones had a seizure? I didnt see that.

smallandimperfectlyformed · 11/07/2021 21:13

It's in one of the videos which shows a steward in an orange tabard stop someone from barging in by kicking his leg out - some people have compared that to a capoiera move! On the right side of the footage is a young man with no top on and some people have said it looks like a police officer is preventing him from being helped, to me it looks like the policeman is making sure he isn't crowded. Came very close to swearing at someone on Twitter who said this was typical London behaviour! Really isn't.

Lets see if we can get through two weeks of relative "normal" before term ends...

Got a call at lunchtime to say they were sending DS1 home...

smallandimperfectlyformed · 12/07/2021 17:09

Oh no Taswama was that due to him having symptoms or has one of the bubbles burst? Year 2 &3 are off in my girls school due to one positive case in each year I believe and the local secondary school is shut in the afternoon as a member of the catering staff has tested positive so they can't provide the kids with lunch. Poor kids constantly being sent home, it's such a shame for them

Taswama · 12/07/2021 17:20

Burst bubble. Half of his year group (secondary) were sent home last week so I wasn't really surprised, but had been hoping.
Am now praying ds2 survives until the end of the week so we can go to his leavers assembly (primary).

Oh Taswama that's what I'm dreading, my oldest is year 6 and I want her and her friends to be able to say goodbye properly (and each time I talk/think about it I get all soppy Blush). Parents aren't allowed at our school ATM, even with restrictions being removed on the 19th.

Huff post also reporting MOs won’t have to wear masks it will be compulsory for parliamentary staff.

Taswama · 12/07/2021 20:21

Yes the care home vaccine is true. It has been out for consultation and despite a high level of opposition (including from residents families) it will become law. It's not just permanent staff though, anyone doing paid work in a care home (unless its an emergency) will have to show proof. So plumbers, electricians, chair fitness people, etc. Only 44% of care home staff in London are currently vaccinated, despite having priority access, so it will be 'interesting' to see if the threat of losing their job makes the rest get the vaccine or if they choose to leave and there is a massive recruitment crisis for a job that generally only pays minimum wage.

Taswama · 12/07/2021 20:23

Oh and DS1's secondary school has now closed to pupils entirely. Not all pupils have been advised to self isolate but all lessons will be on Teams for the rest of the week.

The Government will make domestic vaccine passports the law for large venues if they don't introduce them voluntarily now. Quite a threat, contained within a new Step 4 policy document released tonight.

Another nugget from the document: this week's new guidance for people and businesses is just for the summer. A review will be published in September which could toughen the rules further for the Winter - presumably meaning the return of mandatory restrictions.
